"In 1825, after its harbor was improved, Buffalo was selected as the terminus of the Erie Canal, which led to its incorporation in 1832. The canal stimulated its growth as the primary inland port between the Great Lakes and the Atlantic Ocean. Transshipment made Buffalo the world's largest grain port of that era. After the coming of railroads greatly reduced the canal's importance, the city became the second-largest railway hub (after Chicago)."

Interesting, thanks Bill. I knew about the grain info but was unaware of it being so vital to the rails

Good morning. Busy day for me. Off in a few minutes to Central Wisconsin (90 minute drive) with my brother. See some attorneys in Steven Point, a late breakfast and then drive him over to the airport. Depending on the wind chill I may venture over to the CN yards in Point for some pictures. Then head home.

i have some packages for the post office and a op session at 5pm. I have been looking forward to this layout. It will be my third op session where some of my weathering will be run. He has told me of his 300+ pieces of rolling stock 200 of them I have done for him. When I checked my records they have been done the last 5 years. He usually sends 5 cars at a time and many times.

Stay warm

While I type this one tech called in, can't make it in because his little 4wd Subaru can't get out of his neighborhood. Yeah boy racer, that cars really nifty, til 3 inches of snow hits. Idiot!

My coworkers thought it was really funny when I got 2WD trucks instead of 4WD/AWD.
Until I told them how many days I'd have to miss work before the loss in pay equaled the increased cost of the 4WD. And that was just the initial cost, not counting less mpg and higher cost of maintenance. Sounds like your tech should have thought of that...

Yesterday, after 'planting some trees, I ran a few trains.

Slow drive to work this morning. If you are so afraid to drive in snow, then stay home. Myself and about 20 other drivers were stuck behind a driver going 18 mph for about 5 miles this morning.😡

This is me backing out and into a few inches of snow this morning.

There's always one skittish driver that screws the morning commute up!

Good Morning All. Sunny, clear and 10° out there this morning. I'm posting this from my wife's laptop this morning since my desktop is having issues with my monitor. I hate using this thing for a number of reasons. I am waiting for a callback from my SIL, who builds his own machines. I don't know whether he's working from home this morning or in the office. My other "expert", my 16 year old grandson is home because school is closed, but he's not up yet!
Problem is that the monitor gives a message that there is no input signal, but briefly flashes an image of the start screen. I've rebooted the computer and there is no change. Video card???

I did go out to the train shed yesterday for a little while. Temperature out there rose to 50° and I did some work assembling the wooden rail fence for the cemetery. No pictures yet.
Matter of fact, no pictures at all since I am having the desktop issues.

Patrick - Daughter dodged a bullet there.
Hughie- I've seen that ERCOT website before, but never bookmarked it or went back. Thanks for bringing it back to my memory.
Tom O-
Not good. You need to insulate the attic with more insulation as you are losing your heat through the roof. It will also help lessen your AC bills the rest of the year.

Sorry for the know it all advice from the north, but that’s is why you are getting icicles
Not necessarily so. It is common around here when it rains while the temperature is at or near freezing, and the runoff exposed to the wind chill forms icicles as it runs off of the roof.
Have another great time at the operating session tonight.

Everybody have a great day.

By chance do you have other lights under the porch overhang? If not, what color is the bottom of the overhang there? Looks like it's reflecting a lot of those two coach lights down. But the Solo One to the right is without a reflecting surface above.

yes there are three cans under the porch overhang with LIFX color bulbs. I didn’t have much time but I did spend 30 seconds trying to match their color with the coach lights bulbs (warmer) from the bright white they defaulted. But in the dark it’s not much of a match.

I have icicles forming on the porch roof at the new house. The temperature yesterday was above freezing for a short while and melted snow and then it froze again.

this morning the watch claimed it was 13F outside. Currently 19F. Supposed to get just above freezing. Later this week 40s however.
