Happy Birthday Bill!

I had the granddaughter during the day. I took her to the Aircraft Museum, then to an indoor play area. She met other 'single girls' and they played very well together. She was a little upset when it was time to leave. Playing with other girls is a rarity for her.

Back home, Dawn played with her with the dolls house. It was nice to see Dawn also happy. The sparkle in her eyes took her back to being a Children's Nanny, (way back before I met her).

No snow for us, and I'm not sure about Willie's neck of the woods.
There's a minor chance of snow Monday from 0300 until 0700, but it is very minor. I am more concerned about the rather frigid temperatures. At 1500 this afternoon it was 58°. By 1700, it was 28°, expecting a low of 12° by morning, and the following three mornings. Not supposed to get back above freezing until 1000 on Wednesday.
I don't count on ERCOT to be any more functional or honest than any other government bureaucracy.

OK, where do I start? Capitals won👍, Devils won 👍, Cleveland Browns Lost and done:( .I was hoping for a continuation of the feel good story, but its kind of hard when your receivers are members of the opposing team .

The temperature at Midnight was 60°, it's now 37° with wind speed of 6 mph, and gusts of 23mph, (sounds higher), from the NW. Snow Squalls are predicted mid day tomorrow. All this after another 1.3" rainfall.

I haven't done much on the layout, this past week. Just didn't feel like it. Not sick, just blah. I definitely need to get back into my pre Christmas routine. The last section of the Christmas tree is set to move down the basement tomorrow, and back into the storage unit, a large canvas bag.

Our temperatures are going to stay low for at least most of next week. Now, those who complained about the lack of snow here, will have a chance to complain about the snow  That's the way it is here in Jersey.

Well, howdy there internet peeps, and those awake for the middle of the night pee break

It's troy again... According to the apple watch, it's 6 F-degrees outside.

Been awake since about 2 am and can't sleep... so I came downstairs.

Dealing with humidifier issues. Wife gets nasty nosebleeds in dry air (hello Midwest winters!). So we run a whole-house Aprilaire humidifer o the furnace. That's almost enough.

Three small humidifiers can keep up. The small ultrasonic kind.

I had one die last year. OK, ordered one off of Amazon. Looked promising. Except it uses a small pump to bring water up to the mister unit in the upper part of the unit. The deep bottom reservoir holds two gallons. Worked well... until...

I went to clean it yesterday, and got water into the circuit board area. Not realizing that, I plugged it in... No blue smoke, but the board would not turn on. Hmmm...

I unplugged and let it dry for a few hours. Still no luck. Finally took the mister top apart. Four screws in the bottom of the upper unit. It wouldn't fully disassemble, but there was room blow a small hair dryer into the chamber... yep there was water inside the "secure area" - not much but enough.

Then I started looking at how the pump motor connects.... hmmm... about half-way down the power cord (remember, the pump sits in the bottom of the tank to shove water up a hose to the upper mister unit) the mid-cord two-pin power connection with a small o-ring seal, and a twist fit lock ring around that was a bit loose. Yep. Another operator error as I didn't reconnect it tightly enough. So in the process of drying it out with previously mentioned hair dryer and a good wipe with paper towel, I managed to remove the o-ring. Not realizing this, it disappeared into the void. Reassembly halted upon discovery of said missing o-ring (6mm, not a size the big box stores keep on hand).

I took apart the small waste bin that I'd been tossing paper towels, thinking it might have been stuck to said towel. Couldn't find it. Dumped the dust out of the bottom of bin. No luck. So I grabbed a broom and started sweeping the vinyle faux-wood planks of the basement floor. Five minutes later, I had a dusty but intact 6mm O-ring.

Reinstalled, and the pump still won't pump. Works if I pour water into the mister unit on top... that's good for about 15 minutes

I sense a trip to the big-box store this morning for a replacement... better make that two. The humidifer in wife's office died a week ago. Those ultrasonic ones only seem to go for about 3 years. Unless a dummy gets water on the circuit board.

I'll be purchasing the type I don't have to mess with pumps.

OK, time to try to sleep again.

@Texas Hobo Hughie I bet H-Town is buzzing with the convincing playoff win over the Browns and they should be!

I fell asleep with the score Houston 10 - Cleveland 7 it looked like it would be a good game. I woke up to see the final score Houston 45 - Cleveland 14! I analyzed the box score. The first statistic I look at, time of possession, Browns dominated! Next statistic, First downs, Browns 18 Houston 14 WTF?

Houston had only a slight edge in other statistics. Until I came to turn overs and yards per play. That is where the Texans won the game. Houston converted big plays and did not turn the ball over. The Browns were held to short gains, stopped on third down and turned the ball over twice. It was an ugly game; I was better off asleep. I don't enjoy one-sided games.

Houston's defense has either deep depth or tremendous stamina, probably a little of both. Combine that with their high-powered offense. The offense proved itself against the Browns first-rate defense. They could - go - all - the - way!

Hopefully, they must go through Baltimore, which won't be easy! Go Ravens!

Here we are again - don't understand why I am "wide" awake at 1:30AM - went to bed about 8:30 shortly after the KC/Miami game - well I guess that that is aboiut 5 hours - nuff said! We are at 41 degrees which I think is about the low for tonight - and looking for a 66 high tomorrow with "mostly sunny - chance of showers, they guess.

So I am watching the game straight on with the spouse sitting at a 90 degree position (her favorite spot) and all of a sudden I start laughing out loudI. She says,"What's so funny?" I said well, I am looking at those women announcers on the field, all bundled up, and they reminded me of my two little ones when I livedy in Silverton. At that time, they werde about 5-6 years old; and my wife had them bundled up in those fluffy ski outfits and they looked like Ralphie's little brother with not being able to move their arms - and if they fell over - one of us would have to pick them up and put them back on their feet. It was quite comical at the time! Being in my very early 30's we had fun in the snow - skiing and such. Oh to be young again!

TROY - that's too bad about the humidifier! Sometimes we are our worst enemies!

HUGHIE - I don't either! I was actually hoping that Miami would score a couple TD's just to make it more interesting but wanted KC to win!
"It was an ugly game; I was better off asleep. I don't enjoy one-sided games."

Too many mistakes - fingers are not following the mind!
later, gator ...

Good Morning to all of the early birds out there. Right now here on the SFW estate it's a cold to us 11°. No snow within 600 miles and it ain't moving in this direction. But the cold will stay around for a while, high today might reach 19°. That's damn cold for here.

Hope Sherrel and Troy can get back to sleep, I'm used to seeing Louis here at this time of day/night.

I'm going to catch up on the overnight news for a while and I'll be back in a couple of hours,

Good morning from a chilly Southern England where a visit to my local model rail show saw me tempted to buy these:

20240114_105525.jpg

The trader had three big boxes of RI/CRIP stock, some weathered, others never been out of their boxes, all from a deceased modellers estate.

Unfortunately the dealer was cash only otherwise I would have bought more.

Having trouble tracing the Alco history though, no RI 718 Alco S series on the books that I can find.

I'm back! Another two hours of sleep.

Finally remembered that I had to fill up the Ice-Melt shaker jug, then spread it on our patio... That triggered an asthma episode. So I hit my inhaler yesterday afternoon.

Whenever I do so, Boink! Brain awake sometime in the middle of the night.

Last evening's cocktail was battle of the zombies... Tonga Room version vs one I modified
Wife declared the Tonga Room the winner. I got to drink the loser.

Did some playing with the Image Generator. Tried to get it to illustrate me as a bartender. I didn't do the image learning correctly, but I discovered it thinks male bartenders all look like this

Bartender-Tiki.jpg

Or like this
Troy-Bartender.jpg

That one is fairly close to me... but I have shorter hair and no beard/stache... Asked the wife if I should grow one...
I got "That Look" from her.

still buying razors
