Good morning!

Indiana SR 19 at Noblesville, former LE&W/NKP IMC District

Good morning from the UK side of the Atlantic where they are threatening snow (rarely if ever actually happens on the Sussex Coast in my experience so not really expecting anything), the guys just closed the road outside my place to start digging up the sewers and I have started to reassemble an old Walthers undecorated GP... err whatever the mongrel was supposed to be which I added some detail to and gave a coat of paint:

I am not sure what it is supposed to be, the long hood and chassis were copied from the old Athearn wide body GP 9 or 7 (it was a mixture of both with a bit of fiction thrown in I believe) to which Walthers added a low short hood and matching cab, It can't be a production EMD low nose GP9 as those were all at the end of GP9 production (for the SP) and had a different roof fans, so definitely a mongrel!!

I am calling it a GP8.5 I think!!

The air filter on the long hood, visors, arm rests and snow plough were my additions!

Reminds me of a Illinois Central Paducah rebuilt GP7-9s, reclassified as GP10s

Looks like a diesel locomotive to me. Have fun with it.

Good morning from a very happy and lucky household in So. Central Wisconsin. I love when the Packers win and Terry is happy and excited! Going to the playoffs and they get to head to Dallas to play Mike and his Boys. Probably Mike’s last game as coach if he follows his habit of losing the 1st round game when so much more favored than the team they are playing. Like I have written before a superbly gifted team builder and regular season coach but if you can’t win in the playoffs… Terry is planning on going but I am personally done going to NFL football games especially a playoff game away! She will find tickets for the son, daughter and son in law. That is a project today along with some help from my brother’s assistant who Terry talked to for about 30 minutes last night.

I didn’t enter the trainroom yesterday for anything other then a soda from my frig. That will change today.

Grocery shopping today even though we did go yesterday morning. There was a huge meat sale Saturday and Sunday so we went and handled that which Terry says will cover most likely the next 3 months of meat. Currently our fuel savers amount is at $3.91 per gallon with the current price of gas locally for regular at $2.59. While nothing if free is will be nice to see the 12 gallons I need to ring up $.13 total as they have to charge a penny per gallon at the pump. I will check with the kids if they need gas as the maximum fill up is 25 gallons. Last year we saved over $600 at the pump of which probably 1/2 was the daughter or SIL vehicles. Unlike Willie where he can only use $1.00 off per gallon we can use the whole pump price. Because I have more per gallon than the pump price I also can carry over the difference.

Other than the normal Monday grocery run I am ready for the snow event scheduled for late Monday through late Wednesday. No addition prep is needed as we wait for it. The guessers are thinking a few inches at Tuesday wake up with about 10-12 accumulated inches by mid afternoon Wednesday. The ATV’s with plows are ready as are the snowblowers that so far have NOT thankfully been used this year. That will be changing as this snow will be a keeper with temperatures dropping into the teens

enjoy the day

Good afternoon all. A cold, cloudy day here in the land of the former North British Railway. Much further north than John on the Sussex coast.

Was in the train room yesterday. More or less finished modelling the new street.
Granddaughter visiting after school. No Brownies this week for her. They start again next week

Back later.

Good Morning All. It's cloudy and 51°. For a week now, there has been rain in today's forecast. It's all around but not here yet. I do expect to see some soon, but not as heavy as originally predicted. Not too sure it's all hitting the ground.

Sure enough we both have a doctor's appointment at our primary care guy this morning, followed by an additional trip from there onward to Dallas to eat lunch at a fancy restaurant. We received a $50 gift card for our 50th anniversary over a year ago. Then since we'll be in the area, another side trip. This one to Discount Model Trains to spend my Christmas gift certificate and lots more $$$. Hopefully they will have enough in stock for me. I'm primarily looking for vehicles and detail stuff. Should be back on the road to home before rush hour traffic hits. Later this month, it's the annual Model Train Show in Plano, just north of Dallas, another opportunity to empty the moths out of my wallet.

I caught two more field rats last night. I have determined that their proliferation may be because The "country gentleman" neighbor, a quarter mile to the south, removed three partially collapsed, dilapidated hog sheds from his wooded area along the creek. They were probably 80 years old and the neighborhood bobcats have called them home ever since I moved here over 40 years ago. They have obviously moved on. This is the same neighbor who uses a weedeater on 1000' of barbed wire fencing along the road.
Here are a few photos that I took while out walking over the years.

Not a lot going on around here right now. Christmas tree is still up because my wife just doesn't want to fool with it yet. Ornaments have to come off first and I'm not allowed to touch them.
I saw some real stinkers for football scores yesterday. Giants beat the Eagles so my wife is happy. Cowboys beat the Indians to ice the cake. The guys in Philly must have forgotten that they're supposed to peak in December, not disintegrate!

I did get to do some stuff out in the train shed yesterday. I inspected, cleaned and repaired another dozen or so freight cars and started looking at the ROW along the next 40' of main line for any parts that may have dropped off there. I did complete the second grain spout for the elevator and I'm about halfway through the third and final one. I also measured and cut up most of the wooden fence posts and railings for the cemetery. Might not get home in time to assemble them today before painting, but that's next.
No progress pics today, but here are a few more of the entourage that accompanied the Big Boy 4014 during it's run through town.

The building behind me kept me from getting full view pictures. I'll post the rest tomorrow.

David - That's a really fine scene you have coming along there.
Tom O - While I haven't tried surgery on 3D printed resin figures yet, I have experienced their frailness. I have broken parts on some of Bernard's figures (MiniPrints) as well as the Beverly Hillbillies truck.
Ticket prices for the Dallas/Green Bay game are reasonable right now, ~$160@ for nosebleed seats up to ~$400 for average seats. I'm sure that private party sales are higher and they will go up as the week progresses.

A couple of Rock & Roll birthday's today. Elvis would have been 89, and David Bowie would have been 77.
Everyone have a great "back to work" day today.

The frost line is the depth the frost could possibly go into the ground. Here in NY the frost line is 3'. Our water lines have to be below that. The standard depth of water lines from 1"-12" dia. is 4'. So if you were to dig into the ground in spring, where the frozen ground stops is the frost line.
Around here the code is 30" IIRC. Also had to make the porch foundation 30" above the footings to the grade.

Morning all! Happy Monday (if that matters!) I have to take a cat to the vet today, so I need to get out the body armor for loading her in the carrier (which she hates). Happy happy joy joy! We're supposed to get clobbered with snow tomorrow. We'll see. They always come with the gloom and doom, then revise the accumulation down. Emergency bread and milk day!

I got an iPad Air for Christmas. I'm not a fan of Apple, but I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth either.

Can anyone tell me what an iPad Air is?

In what way are you asking? It is a mid-tier iPad and probably the sweet spot. There are the plain iPad -- which is the base model. iPad Air which has a lot of the upgrades and then the iPad Pro which is the deluxe highest performance and specs. The Air gets a lot of the same upgrades as the Pro but not all.

Yes. It runs on their tablet version of their phone software. Currently it's about iPad OS 17.2 or so.
The touchscreen, and screen in general, are great. If you prefer the feel of a laptop, Apple sells a Magic Keyboard, which is a backlit combination keyboard and cover, with touchpad. You put it on, and the iPad becomes a touchscreen laptop. The downside is, the keyboard is eye-wateringly expensive.
I havea third party keyboard on my (few generations old) iPad Pro No where as nice as the Apple Keyboard but surprisingly good enough that I keep it on the iPad and use it. And it was like $50. Again, it is no where as nice or light as the Apple one but the price is right. I could probably find a link to it on Amazon if someone wanted me to go find it again. They probably make versions for the newer iPads as well.

Morning folks

About 6" on new white solid state stuff on the ground. My wife has a dentist appointment this morning so it will have to wait until after lunch for the relocation effort. This may be a good test for the RAV4 I purchased in September. 6" of snow on an 11 to 12% grade.

The keyboards for all 11" iPad Pros will work on the new Air.
I have an Apple smart keyboard for my 12.9, I got it "renewed" from the River place for less than a hundred bucks.
I really don't need, nor did I particularly want, the 12.9, but got it with cellular data in a size I could watch shows and surf the web when I originally got my 5G internet service. At the time, it was capped at 100gb, and the iPad had unlimited data.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those preparing for a French Toast Day as the weather gets nasty

BTW: Tom O had it correct: That is a diesel in the "What is this?" pic

Here on the home front, we'll have mild weather here in NE Indiana until about friday. Still waiting to see if we get the French Toast storm, or if the groceries will still have milk, bread, and eggs (don't forget the syrup).

I started with my hearing aids about 6am this morning, and I just put them on the charger.

I'm amazed that the left one is 17% more discharged than the right. The left is my good ear. It doesn't boost as much.

I did listen to about an hour of podcasts over the bluetooth today, so I'm suspecting that they should still discharge about the same. Usually, when I put them on the charger before bed, the left one is in "RED ALERT" and buzzing me with low battery, while the right one is still in yellow alert territory.

In other news, got a 1.7 lb chuck roast in the crockpot for tonight. Red and Yellow little taters, baby carrots, onion, garlic, and later I'll add Green Beans.

Still working through the audio book chapters. This process is making me appreciate how much work the narrators do. While this is only costing me $100 for the book (less if I keep using the leftover credits on book 2) it's a huge time suck.

If I push it hard, I can probably finish the book on Wed. then get it out to the QC team for final revisions.
