Never thought I would meet someone else who measures the soda stash in weeks.

Terry’s Diet Pepsi caffiene free is out 4 weeks, she barely drinks one a day. Her coffee cabinet has 8 cans ready for use. Coffee is her drink. When my sister or her best friend are here they have coffee all day till 7pm and that stash really dwindles!

My 16.9 oz bottles of Diet Dr Pepper are out 5 weeks this morning. The A&W root beer sugarless is out 3 weeks as is the Sugarless diet Ginger Ale and Sugarless diet 7up. I do have a backup for the diet Dr Pepper caffeinated in diet Cherry Pepsi. 24 cans of 12oz is there when the Pepper gets low or we have company. I drink 1 caffeine drink in the morning in the morning. After 10am it’s one of the caffeine free drinks.

Plus I drink at least 32oz. of filtered water daily. Often I will hit that recommended 64oz. of water. My nutritionist says though I may count the diet sugar free stuff as part of the 64oz but not caffeinated drinks.

The beer is 5 bottles of Spotted Cow from the New Glarus brewery in Wisconsin. Without company Terry may drink 1 bottle a week. When company comes I head to the store for beer.
There are quite a few of us! ;) I can't have diet Coke anymore. Hard on the kidneys, or in my case Kidney. Soda has gotten so expensive we shop the sales. Since I have to drink the real stuff I only allow myself one a day, with water the rest of the day. Meijer usually has deals but you have to buy 5, so we buy 5 cases or 5 12 packs depending on what's on sale. We've had 10 cases in reserve. Now down to 3. Hope theres a sale soon!

Good Morning All. Clear and 30°. Short warming trend for a few days before our next winter advisory for ice and freezing rain Tuesday-Wednesday. It's either one of those false alarms, or it will be way more serious than they are currently expecting situations. We shall see.

Fridge is empty, so it must be Thursday and the weekly grocery trek this morning. Today should be faster since my wife is at the grandkids and won't be with me. She "shops" while I get in and out buying only what's on the list. She texted her list last night. My list this week seems to be filled with cheeses; Parmesan, Swiss, Provolone, Sharp Cheddar, Mozzarella, Cream Cheese, Blue Cheese, White Cheddar, Monterrey Jack, Colby and Gouda! Everything except sliced processed American cheese. Skipping Muenster, Romano and Asiago this week since I got them last week, and we still have some of those holiday (Swiss Colony) ones left like Brie and Pepper Jack. Good thing that neither of us has any dairy allergens! We seem to be supporting the entire state of Wisconsin.

Thanks to all who commented on or liked the progress on the covered hopper kit. Despite their intricacy, delicateness and the size of the parts; I really enjoy these kits from P2K.

I continued with the build of the P2K covered hopper kit out in the train shed yesterday, interspersed with short periods of moving some freight trains. Here's where I started.

Note also that distilled spirits like Whiskey and Vodka do not age in an unopened bottle. They are good forever supposedly. Wine & beer on the other hand do go rancid, even in sealed bottles.
Sherrel - We have the same hot/cold situation in our house, mainly in the bedroom. I like it about 72°-74°; she likes it cooler. But then she uses the electric blanket from November thru March. I am not much for piling on the covers at all, I like a simple sheet at best.
I don't jack with the TV subscription stuff, since I don't watch more than a 30 minute snippet every morning. Arlene does all of that as she has it on 15-16 hours a day, whether watching or not. She regularly drives a hard bargain with the customer service rep on the phone for free and reduced stuff. A really neat program that I occasionally see snippets of when I go through the living room, is Smithsonian's Aerial America. I couuld easily get hooked.
Chad - I realize that you have a deadline and need to get the house done, but you guys are crazy working in those conditions outdoors!
Hughie - Yep! I carry a list of all of the maintenance meds with me when I see a new to me doctor. My primary care guy is from the camp of take a pill, where I have to argue with him about lifestyle changes to fix an issue, not pills to cover it up. Works mostly.

It's just something that I have always done. Professionally I controlled material flow and production scheduling for 30,000 windows (65 truckloads) every week.
David - This is a new doctor, just the second visit. I have had the wheezing off and on for over 50 years, I just recently decided to look into it further finally. The shortness of breath just started before Christmas and seems to have mostly cleared up on it's own. I had the lung capacity test in early December and it came back as normal for someone of my height and age. I check my own Oxygen level 2-3 times a day and it is always at 97% or above.
I haven't determined the weathering level on this car yet. Your suggestion is valid.

Every time I pick up a prescription at the drug store, they include a two page summary...
Two pages! Is that all? After reading them, I use them to start fires in the wood stove. I have a years supply!
Chris - Nice ride.

Notable birthdays today include guitarist Eddie Van Halen who would have been 68, Actor Paul Newman would have been 98, and living legend Wayne Gretzky is 62.

Everybody have a great day.

Willie, I understand as you know I come from a similar background in the same business.

I have always shopped the soda deals but only in the brands I enjoy. I don’t enjoy coke, therefore there are no coke products. If stuff is not on sale, I am not buying soda that week. Terry thinks it’s funny but we’ve been together over 50 years and married for 46. She understands me!

I have met the “great one” Wayne Gretzky a few times in Arizona. Not impressed personally but a heck of a golfer

Any of you N scalers out there have one of the newer Atlas Diesels? I bought a new Dash 8-40C from Atlas, with ESU DCC sound.

I had issues with the sound... just personal preference stuff. Once I got that ironed out, it is a really nicely done locomotive with a lot of pulling power and fairly quiet operation.

But it came from the manufacturer way over lubed, and picked up a small piece of ballast that got caught up in the gears on the rear truck. I guess it may be time once again to vacuum my tracks.

In any event, I find it interesting how Atlas has changed how they route power from the wheel to the decoder. They still use a split frame concept, but instead of copper strips that sit above the wheel wipers, they now have a small wire soldered to the wheel wipers on one side. On the other side of the wire is a small round slug that is swaged onto the wire. This round "plug" is the pushed into a hole in either side of the frame.

The wires are quite fragile. While removing the truck, I broke the wire off the wiper. I spent some time looking for new wipers, but it appears you have to solder them on yourself. I was unable to find a source for a replacement wheel wiper that already has the wire attached.

So.. I broke out my soldering iron and fixed it myself... Cleaned up the excess grease, cleared the debris, and reassembled. The loco works better than new (since it was way over lubed). I suppose I should clean up the excess grease out of the front truck...

All this happened fairly late last night, and in my hurry, forgot to snap pictures. I'll try to remember to snap some pics if/when I do this again.

I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend Culver Military Academy for high school. It's a boarding school in Northern Indiana that happens to have one of the best college prep hockey programs in North America.

My first year there, I was assigned a roommate who played hockey. His name was Gary Suter. His Brother, Bob, was on the 1980 Olympic team that won the Gold. Gary went on to be Rookie of the Year (1985, I believe), and, unfortunately, is remembered more for "tomahawking" an opponent than all his amazing defense work.

He was a good friend who I lost contact with. The whole Suter Family is sort of like Hockey royalty, especially in Wisconsin. I believe he was from the Madison area. He had a friend who also came to Culver that year. His name was Matt (I forget his last name). Matt was a better defensman than Gary was, but Matt didn't like it at Culver, and ended up leaving to go back home. No clue whatever happened to Matt, but I suspect he never pursued a career in Hockey. Too bad. He was something special to watch.

OK, Dorry! I am late to the party today. Looks like a beautiful day of sunshine all day (as was yesterday).
Temp low last evening was 39f and predicted high today of 65f ... I had rather have in the mid 70's, but I realize that only that "other" party can control the weather?

All righty! Yesterday turned into another help the Spouse effort! She had a couple of clients in the morning and then -- THEN I as roped into going with her to the ranch and bringing back another truckbed and cab full of "stuff" from the garage cleanout. There is still at least two - three more lads to clean out ... some of which will simply just be trashed?
We have got to have several days of garage sales to clean out our garage. We just barly have a path to reach the fridge there and my stash of a few 12 packs of different sodas. Speaking of those - I need a couple packs of diet coke for when the local daughter and hubby come over, but I refused to buy any yesterday as no one had a sale and the price was $7.99 a 12 pack - ridiculous!

I had a nice photo I was going to put up, but am on the wrong computer -- I will get to it later!
Cheers ....

Willie:. Glad to know you have a good handle on your health issues and that they're nothing new.

The hopper kit sure does have a lot of detail parts which adds a lot of realism to the build. As far as the weathering, the hoppers are new to your rossiter and layout so you probably want them to look New !
I checked the elevation of Era, 909' compared to my 1,875' and I'm surprised how much colder your location is than mine being that the Yosemite mountain range starts only about 10 miles North of me with elevations up to 9,000' yet my temperature has so far only dropped down to 28°F for a couple of hours.

Speaking of cold and the little space heater I bought. My finished off and insulated garage, dropped down to 42°F last weak and I wanted to try the Lasko Oscillating space heater out. I did use a electric oil radiator to raise the temp to 48°F then turned that off and turn the little Lasko on with the thermostat set up near maxium and let it run over night. The next day I could definitely feel the train room was a lot warmer and when I checked the thermometer it read 60"F so I turned the dial down to where it stopped running and left it there to cycle on & off to try and conserv on energy.
