In many cases, it's the bean-counters that veto more stringent security measures. They cost money, you know. Unless you roll the dice and lose, then it's a lot of hand-wringing, and finger-pointing.

The area affected by the cyber incident was the back office system which is used by Royal Mail to prepare mail for being sent abroad and to track and trace overseas items.
In its statement, Royal Mail said it was temporarily unable to despatch export items, including letters and parcels to overseas destinations.
It also said it had "immediately" launched an investigation into the incident and were working with its external partners.
With Royal Mail asking customers to not send items using the overseas delivery service for the "foreseeable," it is unclear how long the disruption will go on.

Good Morning. 34°, sunny, going to 47°.

It's MLK Day.

January is officially half over, and the days are definitely longer. Hopefully, the mild temperatures will continue. I have a Carotid Echo today, in connection with my upcoming procedure. Shouldn't take more than about 30 minutes total including paperwork. After that, wife has plans for some shopping at a nearby Mall. I need a new belt or two due to my recent weight loss. My jeans still fit, (somewhat).

Karl: Great job on the "bridge. Solves the access problem very nicely.

This post was written around 1130 this morning. I must have failed to hit the post button. Last nights post disappeared before I could post it, so I guess there are glitches somewhere...

Well, howdy there internet people, and those wondering where Christian's package is,

It's Troy again.

Wife and I had pizza for dinner from the wood-fired place. It was yum

Found a new-to-us place in downtown Fort Wayne that does wood fired, and detroit style. Been a while since we had detroit style. I'll try to take the wife there in the next week or two and give them a test run.

Did some wording, and painted some little dudes to try to clear the workbench today. Didn't get near as far on either as I wanted.

Hopefully Willie has a tooth again.

Catch you tomorrow

Hopefully Willie has a tooth again.
Tooth never disappeared, but a previous filling had become dislodged. Thankfully my dentist was able to see me today, on MLK Day at that. I got over the novacaine (if that's what they still use), about 30 minutes before supper. Had the baby back ribs tonight since my wife wanted something else last night. Ribs, home made cole slaw and asparagus with home made Hollandaise sauce hit the spot. Yum, yum.

Good evening. 36°, with increasing clouds overnight. Now they are calling for rain tomorrow afternoon, along with moderating temperatures...

Following several interesting re-build articles involving Athearn RS3s and Proto GP7 and 9s, both of which I have in multiples. Both articles are in the MRH forum currently.

Willie, good news on the repaired filling. Troy, that's a fine looking pizza.

Todays test consumed about 45", mainly because of a computer freeze up, which hindered registration. At least the TV had the Villanova - Georgetown basketball game on. Georgetown, coached by by former nemesis, and NY Knicks star Patrick Ewing, held the lead for most of the time I was watching. However, "Nova, came back and won 77-73. Georgetown's 28th consecutive Big East loss. Neither program is setting the world on fire this season. In other sports, Dallas is kicking the Buccaneers butt, 24 - 0, with 4:47 left in the 3rd. Caps beat the Islanders 4-3 in OT, Isles blowing a 3-0 lead. Devils won in San Jose 4-3 in a shootout. They tied the game with 10 seconds left... one of those games, eh?

Spent some time in the train room, but really wasn't in to it. Clean schedule tomorrow, so I'll have time to do more.

Dinner was Marinated Pork Loin, Roasted potatoes and mixed veggies. Delicious!

Got some work done on the house today. Didn't get out unt9il after lunch time. It rained and snowed yesterday and this afternoon it started to snow (the big clumpy snow when the temp is right above freezing). The boy and I put up a layer of foam omn one wall (about 60'). It is not done as we need to put he extra insulation panels as well as a straightener and the rebar but it's a start. He had to leave as he was working tonight and I had to leave to take my daughter to music practice. So I was out there about 3 1/2 hours and the boy about an hour and a half or two hours. We also got a ton of gravel out from inside the foam at the top of the wall along the porch. When they were throwing gravel for the basement last Fall a lot ended up in there in between the foam where we hadn't poured concrete and someone had also cleaned up a bunch of gravel and dumped it as there was 16" or 24" linear of totally full gravel. I started to scoop it out but that was taking for ever so I braved the mud slide down behind the house into the basement door and got the wet/dry shop vac we bought Saturday to help get the water off and used it to suck up the gravel Worked great and cleared a ton of gravel and debris out along the porch so we can start building up there as well.

Unfortunately the wall we did and the porch form a non standard corner and a corner piece doesn't work so we'll have to build our own corner there by cutting the sraight pieces so that fit together and then bracing it really well. We had to do the same thing on 3 of the corner in the basement where we had 10" to 8" walls so I know how to do it -- just a drag as it is extra work to cut them to fit and then to screw in a bunch of bracing.

I need a week of good weather and above freezing to get the garage slab poured but we'll be working on building up the walls until that happens. Supposed to be precipitation until Thursday then a couple days of cold but clear and then a day of precipitation and then a few more days of clear (per the weather guessers). We'll see how it turns out. Hopefully we get some good weather coming. We usually get a week of warmer weather in January. (As my mom said her uncle always said "I haven't seen a Yanuary yet witout a taw" (use your best Scandinavian accent).

Shows the new wall as well as the sub floor that we've partially covered with tarps and plastic sheeting to try and keep water from draining down...

Making me hungry already, and I've just had breakfast 😁

A one way street, in France it is obligatory to check both directions, (Christian look the other way) the French are crazy Parker’s, pavements, 90 degree on the road, driving the wrong way to grab a space….hell anything goes. I once saw outside the Moulin Rouge two posh cars parked with a minuscule space between, while I checked out the frontage wondering if I could afford to go in, a battered mini arrived tried to fit in between the two big posh vehicles, it hit one unphased it continued trying to squeeze in the small spot, hit the other car, finally the driver pulled out went in head first, tried opening the door to get out, by now some French narrative was audible I suspect swearing, he then pulled out and drove off, and the pedestrians…not one battered an eyelid. I stood there gobsmacked.
I do not trust English drivers, abroad I am super cautious. Plus the French (Christian look away again) seem to treat roundabouts as optional, as in clockwise or clockwise or ignore and driver across as the mood takes you…
ok Christian safe to look again….lol
Try taking a 40ft Coach past the Louvre, up the Champs-Elysee and round the Arc de Triomphe, madness, second time I wasn't so bothered, I did it the French way, drank a bottle of wine first. 🤣 🤣
