It’s a bridge!

With hinges even!
And what really makes it work is the 45 degree ends with inset hinges so there is almost no gap at the ends!

I love it when a plan comes together!

Afternoon all,

Took a 3 hour drive with the wife this morning so she'd get out of the house and I could get my mind off work for a while. Asked her if we could toss the cell phones out the window and keep driving. She chuckled and said no...
I've often asked that, with no affirmative answer.

Yeah, currently practising the hell out of my non existent painting skills. :)
But boy, hats off to TomO, espeefan and everybody else that do this, they make it look so easy, I can't even get an even coat done.
Having the courage to take baby steps will get you there….be brave.
plus when peed off and you think you cannot do better walk away give it a week then look at it,sonetimes being too close stops you realising how good/better you are,I always say try something cheap throw everything but the kitchen sink at it,and learn

Lots and lots of rain for this part of the world. 1.5 inches fell yesterday and expecting 1.5 inches more today - but nothing so far? Total for this season is 9.8 inches (50 % over normal)
54f degrees and overcast as we speak.

JAZ - Nicely done "rust bucket" - amazing!
KARL- Nice build - not sure I understand the "45"?

Been watching some very good football. That "almost not drafted, last man standing" quarterback for San Fran really showed out yesterday!

Looking real good except for the missing screws on the hinges which Terry pointed out. How is that angled end going to meet up with the rail? Slight recess on the bridge and slight overhang on the fixed side? I'm thinking that the rail on the bridge if extended to the end might snag on the plywood.
The cool thing is that the bevel, when carried through to the subroadbed and the rail, actually drops away from the rail when the bridge is raised.
My friends bridge actually has straight and curved bridges this way, and less than a mm rail gap, and no snags'

Sherrel: Nice photo. I love main lines that run through back alleys and industrial zones. This one is a classic.

Ok for Sherril and anyone else, here is a crude drawing of what the 45s are all about.

bridge.png

The gray is the subroadbed, the brown represents benchwork. red arrows direction of travel and the orange ball is the pivot point of the hinges. As the bridge goes up, the other end drops between and below the benchwork. As long as the 45°gap is continued, homesote, cork ties and rails can be added without causing any kind of a bind on the bridge.

Since the last pics I have experimented with guard rails and alignment pins. 1 inch guard rails, also cut on the 45.° bias fit amazingly well.

When I Build the one for the laundry room door, I'll try to make some better assembly pics!

I hope you catch the idea, Or I will have to ask my 6 year old granddaughter to do a better illustration!

Magnificent work Karl!

Thanks for sharing your work.

Good morning from a very wet So. Central Wisconsin. 36f degrees now, feels like 24 but heading into the mid 40’s. There is better than a 45% chance of rain, much of it though is at 100% every hour till 8pm. Better than getting the white stuff.

Some morning time at the workbench is planned. I set up yesterday a few sections of the layout for mainly picture taking but now that it’s up…

enjoy the day
