Good morning from a sleepy part of Wisconsin. Out of bed maybe 15 minutes. Kind of late for me but with no pool and alone why get up so early. Looks like 1/4” of the white stuff on the pavement but since it’s under 1/2” no shoveling is required by City ordnance. It should melt because we are to see the sun, the weather guy promised last night. High though now they show will be in the high 20’s.

Just some organizing the house yesterday, making beds and adjusting things to my liking. Spent most of the day yesterday though getting my cave set up and the theater system working. I can’t seem to get the sound tuned to balance around the room. When I wasn’t doing that I was packaging up weathered pulp cars. I put out yesterday that I had 2 for sale but I noted there were others. The sale was successful, I have 1 damaged pulp car left. The search for replacements is on

enjoy the day

HEY THERE FOLKS! Morning FLO! I would like to have some of Karl's SOS this morning - hanen't had that in a while and I always liked it; Mom was good at that!
Out here we are at 42 degrees and looking for a high of 61 later. Quite a bit of moisture fell yesterday resulting in a total of a little over two inches for the month - pretty significant in this part of the world.
Supposed to be "mostly sunny" today.
Afterwards, I am off to the repair shop to see about the sidewipe scrape.

Good Morning All. Mostly clear and 42° this morning. Sun is peeking out over on the horizon. Still have fair weather for the next ten day forecast.

Thanks from my wife for all of the comments regarding her drawing/painting that she made for my birthday. It means more to me than a gift certificate to the LHS. I spend what I want there regardless.

The weekly grocery/beer trek yesterday did not go as well as normal. They're rearranging parts of the store and that's left them short-handed in places. I left a lousy review on their feedback site. I ended up going to Target across the street to get a couple of things. Noted that the price of gasoline is still going up, seems like $2.89/gal is the norm around here now.

Thanks for the comments and reactions to the Earl's Oil scene yesterday. That was a fun scene to put together.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I did only measuring and figuring stuff out. I am setting up the Ethanol refinery as realistic as I can get it. With the four loading platforms, eight tankers can be loaded simultaneously, @ about 30,000 gallons each. So going backwards, I have enough capacity in the fermentation tanks considering it takes two days to ferment with a recovery rate of about 35%. I only have one storage tank of 210,000 gallons, so I need another, easy enough. It will fit and I just need to purchase another Rix 60' peaked water/oil tank on the next trip to the LHS, sometime soon. Actually I may already have one, I just need to look. I already have some Walther's grain storage tanks, and a bunch of Rix corrugated walls to make a backdrop structure. there will be a siding with two propane tanks for heating the mash and distilling the final product and I will use a pair of Walther's tanks that I already have. Rolling stock. I plan on having unit trains of 16 tankers each to rotate in and out. No problem again as I have 54 ethanol tankers, as well as 8 propane tankers. Each Ethanol tanker of 30,000 gallons requires four 100 ton covered hoppers of corn to produce. Covered grain hoppers are no issue either as I have at least 180 of them. Whoops! That will require unloading 32 hoppers a day. The planned covered unloading shed will hold 12 at a time, but I will have to keep a switcher busy all day long, or just fake it. Well since I operate alone, faking it is probably going to be the answer.
I overused my brain out there yesterday!;)

Once again no progress pictures, so here's a few more from the archives. This is the Antiques Shop across the tracks from Earl's Oil.

Karl - I remember doing lots of things with whipped cream back in college.
Tom O - Interesting that you refer to the light walls as "voodoo medicine". I have heard both ways about them, mostly positive. I know that the gloomy days are a downer for me, but I can usually get over it since we don't normally have too many in a row.
I can relate to 18 of the 21 statements in post #315.
Dave B - Even after once telling me that she might consider painting some backdrop, my wife hasn't set foot in the train shed in over 4 years.
Chad - Welcome back to the good ole USA. Glad that it was all a safe trip.

Today is Epiphany Day, sometimes known as Three Kings Day. It marks the end of the Christmas season in many religions.

Everyone have a great day and a wonderful weekend.

Yes, you may now (tomorrow) take down your trees (those that have them). Yesterday was the 12th day of Christmas and today Epiphany.

If more people stopped putting up Christmas stuff in october or early november and waited until December to put it up, play songs on radio, etc. and them actually kept them up through the end of the Christmas season (today) I think we would all be better off.

Less build up and more actual Christmas season celebration. In many old school traditions (in Europe for example), you didn't even put your tree up until the 24th and Christmas celebrations started then not ended on the 26th or 27th for those places with boxing/2nd Day of Christmas.

Good morning all,

-7F and supposed to warm up to +21. Cleared snow again last eve after work in the full moonlight, sure is pretty when the snow is so fresh and the moon shining bright, always a few stars visible even with the nearly full moon.

Politics has always been a mess, according to me. There is nothing new under the sun, as Solomon so succinctly notes. Fraud, contempt, dishonesty, greed, these will always be with us. Just not the things we want to emulate. It seems the good characteristics are too quiet to make the headlines, like humility, longsuffering, and charity.

Looking forward to a quiet weather weekend, will be working on the new building and touching up a few areas on the layout.

Curt - hope the Covid keeps away. And you are feeling better.

Todd - nice BNSF pics. Most of the BNSF traffic on our line is coal, coming from Wyoming and Montana I presume.

Garry ? - I think his handle was Garry CBQ. I really enjoyed his layout and scenery.

more later, Dave LASM
Dave: Don't see much loaded or empty coal trains here. All goes down the MRL; unless that has problems. Now if you are in Sandpoint, ID you see it all. Not sure where it connects back to the Hi-line; although I do remember that it heads back north @ Custer, MT and follows the Yellowstone River for awhile, but do not remember how far up it goes and/or meets.

Christian, I've dabbled in HO and N scales. Like you I used a sectional track with a roadbed. I used Bachman's track because it came with my sets, and it worked well for me.
I prefer a terminal track. It makes setup simple and is easy to change. Also, it eliminates wires running from under the track that can cause problems.
That's just my opinion.
It's your railroad my friend, operate it any way you want.
Thanks for sharing your work!
Many thanks for your reply !

Willie, the light walls have absolutely helped me. Never had an issue previous to last year. But, I will keep using them.

My GP thinks it’s nuts, my Endocrinologist and friend says it obviously worked for you so it’s is good medicine. She does say the medical community is divided on many things that don’t require pills and a prescription.

Back from the grocery trek. Gas has boomed to $3.29 per gallon from $2.69 onDecember 15th the last time I purchased gas. I had $.3.51 in gas discounts but they have to charge at least a penny per gallon. So I paid $.13 total and still have discount gas money available.

Our HyVee is changing the aisles again. They also in the 3 big main aisles took out the crap that was in the middle of the aisles. Really does open up the store.

enjoy the day

These could make some interesting loads for someone.

Someone was asking about chains and tensioners, Trussrod I think, I found these
