59° and moonlit ground fog. Going to be a mild day tomorrow.

Caps lost to Buffalo in overtime, 5 - 4. Ovie had 2 goals. T. Thompson had a Hat Trick including the Game winning Goal for the Sabres. Good game from a hockey sense, disappointing from a Caps fan perspective.

Otherwise, everything went well today...maybe because I didn't watch any TV news.
Toronto cant seem to win important games at times either.....

Good morning writers, travelers, glock owners or not and model railroaders. My portion of Wisconsin is going to be dreary whenever the dense fog lifts. The movers should be here within the hour. I hit this pool for the last time this morning. I will miss this pool not so much the house.

The Verona school district is in shock this morning. The principal of our granddaughter’s middle school was killed yesterday morning walking her 2 dogs at 6:30AM. Car slipped on the ice and hit her and the dogs. One dog is recovering the other didn’t make it. From what the daughter told me the teaching staff is devastated as is the whole district staff that knew her.

Everything is marked for the move so it’s a matter of me staying out of the way. Dinner was to be out but I couldn‘t get confirmation from anyone. I was unaware until last night the 9 yr. old grandson has what the doctor said was the stomach crud, since Sunday. Stomach flu is what we used to call it and like walking pneumonia there is no such medical term. I now know he’s been sick and I will need to stock the new kitchen sooner today then my plan for tomorrow. Seems I nor anyone else won Mega Millions last night.

So far I have not purchased ANYTHING this year for the trains.

enjoy the day

Good morning gang!

Today is National Trivia Day, so lets clutter our heads with useless info! Somewhere around the house I have a set of railroad related cards meant to be used with a Trivial Pursuit board. IIRC the set was called "All Aboard!"

Tom, So tragic about the Principal and the dogs.

end of transmission, stay tuned

Good morning all, +24F and we are in a winter storm. We got about 6" yesterday another about the same for today, the depth isn't bad but the blowing snow is a bummer and the plows are only on a few roads. Supposed to wrap it up around noon I think.

No other news except trying to keep up with the coffee shop. No weight lifting for me, shoveled out the burby this morning also will be shoveling this afternoon when I get home...

David Trussrod - you sly fox ;)

more later, I will look for a picture

Good Morning All. Clear, still and 35°, maybe reaching 60° later on. Looks like jeans today. Tonight might reach freezing and then another ten days of perfect winter weather. My contribution to National Trivia Day; even though the days have been getting longer for the last two weeks, today is the latest sunrise of the winter.
Yesterday's perfect weather afforded me with the opportunity to bask in the sunlight outdoors for most of the day. I organized and stacked some firewood that had been scattered about which will make it easier to mow later this month. Yes, I expect to mow this month which is not all that unusual. I cleaned up and oiled all of the gardening tools. Nice thing about the metal handled ones is that I don't have to use the neatsfoot oil on those handles. I also located all of them so I won't run into them with the mower either. Took a couple of wagon loads of stuff to the dumpster, including the old artificial Christmas tree. Still waiting on the elusive phone call from the body shop. I have to make a salvage yard run and don't want to do that in the rental vehicle.

Thanks as always for the likes and comments from yesterday.

Short day out in the train shed yesterday, so I didn't accomplish much. Ran trains instead. I did some minor work organizing wiring under the upper level. I shuffled some completed structures for the Ethanol Refinery around to see how stuff will eventually go. Looks like I have about 40"x 16" from the end of the existing scenery to the beginning of the refinery itself that I will happily fill. I will start to paint the backdrop next, whether it will be today will have to be determined by the honey-do list that I know exists.

From the archives comes Woody's Country Mart. It resides north of Wayne Feeds featured yesterday.

Chris -
I went to work this morning, (I start at 06.00), to find I actually start work tomorrow, ah well,
Haven't you done this before??;)
Troy - My bout with sciatica last fall started on the left side only for a few weeks. Some days it was pretty intense. Then it moved to the right side for a while but wasn't nearly as painful. Ken (D&J) suggested an exercise that really helped me. Cross your legs and lean over as far as you can. Repeat while crossing them the opposite way.. Do it a couple of times, really helped me more than pain relievers.
Dave B - You're confusing me with the building that you have referred to as your Cornerstone building. It looks like a Smalltown USA structure that I have built before!
I can still walk in three directions when leaving my house. Going north it's 1.5 miles to the next road and I pass one house 1200' from me. Going south it's 1.25 miles with just one house back in the woods 1/4 mi away. Going west I run into neighbors 1/4 mile away, uphill, before it dead-ends.
Jeff - I just accept the fact that my pond will dry completely out more often than not. It was 9' deep when built, now down to 7' since I haven't scooped it out in about 12 years.
Patrick - Mostly the Geek Squad here is pretty good, but thankfully I don't have to use them often.
Gary - That's too bad about your wife not wanting to travel to the US. But agreeably, there's a few cities that I have no desire to go to as well. Karl mentioned two of them. From where you are, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire and Northeast New York state are rather nice.

Everyone have a great day. Stay safe and warm, and dry if you're on the Left Coast.

Haven't you done this before??;)
Oh yeah, you would think I'd learn by now.

So I went to work this morning, no vehicle allocated to me for today, phoned my boss, who said no, your back on the 9th???? We got an email, University is now on the 9th, I forgot to tell you, sorry.

Goes back to my car, just about to leave and our mechanic runs up, I have to phone the boss.

I phone him, he says your right I'm wrong, Uni is today, it's the schools that go back on the 9th.
So I'm currently waiting for my Uni students, so we can go home.

Somedays you really can't make this stuff up. :)

Good day, everybody!

More rain coming over the next few days. I'm not disappointed, especially since the temperatures are quite mild. We need the rain.

I'm starting to wish I would have planned to add lighting to my layout. I'm N scale, so lighting is a bit of a challenge, just due to size constraints.

I'm coming to the conclusion that lighting adds a depth to a layout that you cannot achieve otherwise.

Imagine this painting by John Stobart without lighting effects. The light within the boat and within the cabin on the raft adds SO MUCH depth to the scene. The painting wouldn't be that same without it.

Good morning again, as promised a couple pics,

Willie - sorry for the confusion. The "cornerstone" is the name of the actual building on the corner of US 61 and Wyoming Blvd. in downtown Wyoming, MN

Edit: "Woodys Country Mart" scene very nice!

Jeff - raft pic very interesting, wonder if that is one of those rafts that floated firewood out to the steamboat. I understand that along the route different places they would float out loads of cordwood to fuel the steam boat engines so boat would not have to slow down to take on wood.

Here is the model, it is a Rix product: (instructions sheet with info on bottom)

here it is for real:

This is the track plan I compressed and copied as much as possible to my layout:

If you look at my build thread you will recognize a bunch of the buildings

Another appropriate pic for today, note they are filling the tender in the trailing locomotive, you may also note my Wyoming water tank on the layout also has no roof:

It is snowing here now and has been for 20 hours
