Thanks, I did look at the self contained ones, but either I have to get them refilled or buy new canisters, (which no one I know of does here), or I need some kind of compressor to refill them myself, which kinda defeats the object really.

I also looked at the 12v ones you get for inflating tyres, but really didn't fancy my luck with something like that, knowing me I'd probably blow the machine or the canister or me, probably all three. 😁
I know a guy made a compressor from an old refrigerator. That worked well, but I haven't seen any of the results.

You eat this? Ehm, perhaps I misread the text. But 1 small warning, when it looks like meat it is NOT always what it seems to be. 😄

Good evening. 48° with random rain showers and fog. It was a moderately active day, with some time walking around Lowes, New Years day leftovers for lunch, and New Years Eve leftovers for dinner. Hard to watch the salt over holidays.
Again today I didn't watch a lot of sports. about 10" of the Buffalo - Cincinnati game.

Have to return to Lowes or HD tomorrow for a porcelain light fixture with a pull chain, since I managed to break one today. Other alternative, is to just rewire the junction box, eliminate the light and place a cover over it...assuming I have a cover. See what kind of mood I'm in tomorrow.

Tomorrow, (1-3), my youngest son turns 40...wow! Time flies.

Curt: Hope the wife and your dad recover quickly from the Covid, and that you don't get it.

FWIW, I'm still coughing from my Flu and Pneumonia that began over a month ago...this crap doesn't let up...

This is a blast from the past:

PC # 31 - "The Spirit of St. Louis" pauses in Terre Haute, IN 0n 12-14-1970, enroute to St. Louis. Roger Puta Photo. Note that the Red P, white C and Central are fading from the 4312, the 4071's NYC cigar band scheme remains intact. Just 4½ Months until Amtrak takes over at this point in time.
Wow the time Rail traveling meant some kind of adventure. Love that picture. Still when I'm in a bigger station, the announcement of an International train, gives me a shiver from joy and excitement.

Good morning from the land of “thanks be it was rain last night and not the white stuff.” Enough said about how my little section of Wisconsin was to be dry until Saturday. Looking at the computer record of the rains over night from 10 to midnight just under 1/4” at .21”fell. From 2 to 3AM, 1.61” of rain. Barely any since. Depending on the moisture in a snow fall, heavy moisture is usually 8 times the amount of rain. If a dry powder snow it could be 30 to 40 times the amount of rain. That interesting tidbit of info comes from a Duck duck go search and found on the “Fox” weather page. It other words, it would have been lots of white stuff.

Son texted around 9 asking if I was watching the game. Nope, TV was off all day. He said turn on the NFL game! Wow, what a scene. A very stark reminder how violent the game of American football the NFL plays. Best for him is my hope.

The son did talk about another huge “atmospheric“ river coming East. Asked if I wanted to come down to Austin until mom returns from the islands to get to some decent weather. I will think on that today. The Crew on Maui planned to leave Saturday. 3 of them still are but the wife and sister are not sure now.

enjoy the day

Well, Howdy there internet people.

Not sure how many of you read MRH magazine? But their video channel access is on sale for half price today. $19.99/year (US$)

As for the bark... it's the "small" variety. And I was making bases for my little toy soldiers to stand on. this batch is for my dwarves (as in Gimli's race from The Lord of the Rings)

I need to add some white glue and ballast for loose rubble and ground grit. I'm trying to simulate the rocky opening to mines and caves.

I'm actually quite happy with the results and may get a bag of the landscape bark nuggets to add in to my layout for rock faces. Anyone use it for such? Other than oven drying to get the moisture out, any tips?

Morning all,

Finally got caught up. Yesterday was a bust getting online as was Sunday after the kids left.

Got a little vacuum that made short work of reclaiming the excess ballast I used on my ballasting attempt and some money for trains. I also got some shirts and pants I needed along with a gift card for a nice steakhouse the kids have been to, but the wife and I haven't. She also got one to the same place so we can go together...lol.

Once we got the Christmas decorations down and mostly put away, (outdoor wreaths were to wet after the fog and drizzle we had yesterday). I had some train time in the afternoon. That's where I tested the vacuum and worked some more on the AHM GE35 model. I have the coupler height at about 2/3 to 3/4 of the standard height which works for no more that it's really going to be used.

Both hit in the same location. I'll post the rest in my in progress thread.

I did decide to repaint the unit. I don't know what AHM used for paint, but one only stripped off using denatured alcohol and the other color with mineral spirits. Still not totally complete.

Good morning all, +13° F and we are awaiting the track of a major weather system could give us 12" of snow today. I hope not.

Jeff - that alcohol can really do some damage. Sad to hear the stories.

I painted some of the details on my Cornerstone bldg yesterday, spent a couple hours just got some window frames and lintels done. Will be adding grout and light weathering before final assembly

used the paint brush on the windows and doors, spray paint can on everything else

Took this random photo, like pulling a big string of box cars through town:

Good morning all!

I'm happy we are getting some more rain. We've had such a dry Fall here in Ohio, that our pond is down about 15-18 inches. This past Sunday, I spent several hours outside, tending a 3" trash pump that was pumping water into the pond from a creek that passes by... That pump was running pretty much non-stop for about 5 or 6 hours, and I was able to raise the water level by about 3-4 inches. It takes a lot of water to affect a half-acre pond.

Very nice photo, DAVE!

CURT
- Prayers for all - especially your Dad. Is he normally in pretty good health?

I know a guy made a compressor from an old refrigerator. That worked well, but I haven't seen any of the results.
I had one of those in the early 60's ... it worked great! I had a small O2 bottle connected to it along with a regulator and water separator. Didn't have a cutoff switch, so had to "unplug" the compressor after pumping up the tank.
I used that thing for years - finally sold it during one of my many moves.

It's 49f and looking for 58f high today with still the same cloudy, chance of rain, drury looking day!
LOL -- I am tired of winter already!

Dinner last evening with the Brother and Sisters - a fairly quite dinner with choice of steak, chicken, and fish.
I had a sampling of all three!. :)

Thank's for everyone's help with this. but I just blew my budget for the compressor, got myself a decent airbrush instead of the cheaper one I was thinking about.

Harder & Steenbeck has a good reputation. It's one of the few brands I've not had experience with, but I've talked with many who have. It's vary popular in Europe. Owned by Iwata!

Good morning. 53° and light rain with fog. Looking at a high near 60°.

Had the game on, but turned it off right before the incident. Scary...Hope he recovers.

Some shopping and a fixture to repair today...plus a nap.

Have a good one.

Good Morning All. Mostly cloudy and 53° here on the SFW estate. At least it's a good morning here, Troy, Chris and Louis are all in the corner in a down mood!;) Cheer up guys, at least you all woke up!:)
The severe weather forecast for yesterday, tornadoes, hail, thunderstorms etc., disappeared from the forecast around noon yesterday, much to the chagrin of the TV weather geeks who had been touting it all morning. The NWS is starting the year off no better than the last few. I ended up with a high temperature of 76°, although cloudy most of the day. Not quite as warm today due to the clouds and then around sunset, a cool front blows in. A couple of cool nights and then mild weather for the foreseeable future. Highs ranging from upper 50's to lower 70's for the next ten days. Maybe back to jeans tomorrow morning only. No more cloudy weather until Sunday.
I made some progress on the garden prep for early spring planting in about six weeks, by shoveling, hauling and spreading a few yards of aged wood chips over part of the area prior to tilling later in the month. Between now and planting time, those wood chips will be augmented with a few loads of shredded leaves, grass clippings and compost; and the whole garden level will rise by a few inches. Nice loose dirt for the plant roots to advance in. Per the Farmer's Almanac and my own gut feeling, I should be planting about two weeks later this year than last.

Thanks to all for the great tutorials and information regarding soldering, air brushes and compressors.

Thanks also for the likes and comments regarding the minor progress on the fermentation tank stairway. That was tedious.

Yesterday was nice enough outside that I took the piece of backdrop material outside and sawed it to length. So that step is completed. I'll paint it in a few days. I also did another 48 sq in of ground cover and painted some of the details of the Fermentation Tanks. After getting the backdrop installed, I am pondering whether or not I need to trim the tanks. I have plenty of time to make a decision since the next step after painting the backdrop will be making the plant itself as a backdrop structure with a depth of 2"-3". I also need to configure the track at the south end for the grain unloading and the propane tanks and delivery track. Propane is used to heat the mixture between milling and fermentation. The fermentation tanks are going at the north end of the facility by themselves so they are variable as to placement.
No pictures yet of all of this activity. Give me a few days to work stuff out. I don't have a paper plan, but free-lance it like the rest of the layout.

I like to post action pictures usually. But sometimes inaction shots work just as well. Clipper Mills Plumbing Supply is a very old kit to me. It's from LifeLike and to me it's at least 30 years old.

Louis - I have to echo what Alan posted about friends and family falling away one by one. If you remember I lost a younger brother exactly a year ago. You have lost your mother as well.
Mara/Smudge - You had a posting about Chris sending a loco to you when he finished fixing it up. I got curious and looked it up, it appears that it is less than 475 miles through UK, France and Belgium to get to Holland. I can drive 475 miles here and still be in Texas! It's over 625 miles to El Paso and over 525 miles to McAllen or Brownsville. Small world over on your side of the pond.
Sherrel - That's some good news regarding the Sriracha. Plus points for you for spelling it correctly! ;)
Todd - There's no way that I could have painted over 800 Preiser figures without Optivisors!

Everyone have a wonderful day. That's what I am planning for today.

Yep. Feels like sciatic nerve. Not a pulled muscle. Makes me wonder if the ache I had last week on the other side was the same. Unfortunately, with my acid reflux, I only sleep on my left side. I do have a MedWedge pillow. I may put that back on the bed. Supposed to really help with back pain. But this time of year, my left arm hangs out uncovered and gets cold. So I switched back to my normal stack of two pillows.

I'm currently at the upper end of my weight. Which isn't helping the back. I need to get back into a keto diet. But getting that way cold turkey is a recipe for failure. Especially when I can't get much exercise.

Over two years out in Los Angeles, I dropped 20 pounds, because we walked darn near everywhere. My wife would text me getting off work, tell me a place to meet up, and we'd get pizza, burgers, etc. That gave me a mile there and a mile back. She was getting 3 miles one way home from work. But, we have real winter here in Indiana. And the treadmill is darn boring.

Of course, we're now out of cookies, blueberry cheesecake, and most of the candy. I'm hitting the dark chocolate pretty hard today, but that's how I usually come down from a major sugar binge. The Dark Chocolate doesn't have as much, and it's a decent way to step down.

looks like I'll be breaking out the yoga mat. Most of what I like to do for stretches is in the good range for sciatic rehab.

Got some of those game bases loaded up with extra rock and ballast for gravel. They're out in the garage after a coat of flat black primer. I'll pick one or two and work on them once the paint dries enough to bring back inside. I'm lucky that we're in the mid 50s f today, and I can sneak in some priming outside.

Made it out earlier to get my ears lowered again. I was getting pretty shaggy.

We've got rain off an on for several days, culminating in freezing slush to snow overnight Wed to Thurs. Then sunny and in the upper 30s at best for the next week.

Yeah, it is, but upside is it doesn't take long to get to visit other Countries/Cities, I can go to Paris, watch a show, have a meal, and be back home in a day, and I don't even have to drive. :D
