Awesome, Curt! I'm an Eagle Scout. Up until about 10 years ago, I would help coordinate orienteering courses so scouts could earn that merit badge. We would set up as course, and then let several troops come out to have their scouts learn, then, after the course has been run for a week or so, we would change it up, and have a day-long orienteering meet where 3 or 4 troops would come out ad take turns running the course.

I stopped volunteering when a new guy insisted on using GPS. I mean, come on... GPS in orienteering? What's the point?

Too cold & wet to do much outside so I went to the train room and did a little vacuuming and took a picture to prove I am still somewhat of a model railroader. I have spent so little time out there lately I was wondering myself if I was.....The painter guys have taken over the kitchen for a couple days so no stove. I have a microwave in the garage. The toaster & coffee maker is in our bathroom and the fridge is in the living room. The rest of the house looks like a thrift store as everything has been removed from the kitchen cabinets and stacked wherever.. I just want my house back........

Well howdy there internet peoples, and those with burned-through crab pots

It's Troy again.

Louis... time to pass the baton. Tell someone else they can host. You'll bring a lawn chair, sunscreen, and a healthy appetite. And, do NOT loan out your crab pot.

As for California rains, I had to read this essay when I was working on my masters in journalism. John McFee words the words better than anyone. And, that essay is a lesson on California and rain...

But, today, I wanted to talk about print fails.

I finally got my 3d pinter settings dialed in, so I went and changed the size of my supports that connect the models to the build plate.

And I got half-people

The build plate is what the models are connected to. It rises up and down into the vat of liquid resin. The vat has a clear bottom. UV light is projected through the vat, and a "layer" is burned, hardening the resin. Build plate goes up to pop that layer off the vat bottom. So there has to be a more secure connection to the metal build plate than the residual tug of the plastic film in the bottom of the resin vat.

And I made the supports too thin. The people popped off and were flopping about. Any new layers just welded themselves to the bottom of the vat. When that happens, there's a chance of the vat ending up like Louis's crab pot that one year he let someone else cook.

So, right before bedtime, I discovered the latest mess. Takes about half an hour to clear all of that. Prying the burned-in bits takes finesse and a rubber spatula.

Then I opened the software. Buffed up the supports, and hit print.

This morning, I found a good print. This shows how the models and supports hang together when I do my part correctly.

The half people looks like the scene in the movie the Philadelphia Experiment........

Good morning from a mildly weathered climate changed So. Central Wisconsin. It’s 29f degrees heading to 39 but it’s densely foggy. I cannot see the mailbox from the house, maybe 60’ away. This is January where the weather app says the normal high today is 10f degrees.

I fixed up a storage space yesterday and put away nicely all the seasonal bins. I may have had the TV on for 10 minutes yesterday, the music in the house is just so much more relaxing. The football game last night might have been 1 minute of the TV time. I just had no interest and the score was already lopsided in the 2 quarter.

Prima donna, Aaron Rodgers has started it again. What’s he going to do. Well, he’ll take some psychedelics, do something with his 26 year old girlfriend, vacation with his boys and decide in March. PLEASE GO, let the Pack rebuild and get on with it. Don’t let the door hit you on your way out. Way over due IMO by 7 years when he undercut McCarthy’s ability to coach the team. Should have traded him then. My prediction, he doesn’t blow off the 53 million in his contract and returns because the “fire” is still burning. Don’t we have fire extinguishers🧯in GB?

I have a personal weathering project I have not touched since Saturday to complete. Maybe…

enjoy the day

I am ready for Jordan Love to step up. A Rod is done! He needs to go along with David Bakhtiari......sadly I think Randall Cobb will need to go too. He was great but his time has come. I am not happy about losing Lazzard.

Agree with all you write except Lazard should have been gone this year. Bakhitari will only be back if A-Rod comes back.Cobb maybe if #12 decides he needs him.

Lots of talk on the car radio that he is or isn’t returning. Is LaFluer a good coach or not? Many seem to think if #12 is not back LaFluer should not come back either. Start everything over. With the team‘s President retiring the new guy will have lots to say which direction the Pack want to go.

I used to love this end of season time with all the speculation. But the media is so totally unreliable now because anybody can throw something up on the internet and let it run from there. No longer if there is smoke there is a fire.

Yeah, leaky house and air exchange -- heat pump is not a magic bullet. Maybe in New Construction where they can engineer it in from the beginning and make the house a bit more insulated and tight (which means you get a mechanical ventilation system) there would be benefit.
It was my second home purchase, new in a sub division, and marketed as energy efficient. (By 1979 standards). House had flaws, airleaks but last time I was up there, we drove by, it was still standing. All I know is never consider a heat pump again.

Looks like CSX had a derailment in SC. Amtrak was detoured around the obstruction. Northward Auto Train #52 was just passing through Ashland VA around 1640 this afternoon. Was due in Lorton, VA, around 0830. Today's Auto Trains are cancelled.

Currently 38° and cloudy here in Jersey. Supposed to remain cloudy through Thursday, when rain is forecast. I don't mind a mild winter, keeps heating costs under control, and lessens the probability of accumulating snow.

Wrote checks for my quarterly property taxes, and quarterly Federal estimated tax payment. I always have the feeling I am overpaying, but once I start on the return, I suddenly get nervous that I didn't estimate enough. :(

Saw an interesting video of a restaurant fire in Lancaster Co. PA. FF were having difficulty containing the blaze in a sprawling attached structure. In the foreground of the video, maybe a dozen Amishmen were in the field observing the efforts to contain the fire Big problem in rural areas is that FF have to bring in water by the tank truck, as there is no Hydrant system.

This morning, I accompanied the wife to Macy's, where she returned a gift. then she shopped for a replacement. Afterward we went to Barnes and Noble, where she looked at Quilting magazines. Copies of Prince Harry's book of whining and ranting were not flying off the shelves, even thow the book was heavily discounted...I can't stand Privileged wealthy cry babies complaining about perceived slights.

Chester Secondary Action by Bennie Briscoe....Love those SD-40s.

CSX SB Intermodal passing through Ashland VA on 11/12/2022.

That can definitely be a problem in areas like I live in. I have volunteered the water in my swimming pool as an emergency supply to the VFD if needed to refill their trucks. It holds 14,000 gallons, enough to fill their trucks several times over if needed. They have not needed it in 30 years. They used to give me free tickets to their BBQ dinner fundraiser each year as a thank you, but they stopped about 10 years ago when I started paying for them anyway.

Hmm --Last time I failed to receive something - the seller asked me if I still wanted the product, or a refund. He replaced it with another.
This makes me wonder if it was ever shipped?
I have tracking info, so SOMEthing was shipped. Of course, it could have ended up being nothing but a shipping label roaming the country. In my message to the seller, I asked if they wanted to refund, or wait a couple of days to see if it managed to get here. They offered no response, just refunded.

I cracked open the Japanese Whisky tonight. Pretty smooth.
Toki.jpg

My whiskey friend warned me that Japanese whisky was a Love it or hate it affair. I don't mind it, but it appears pricy. Costco was $25 for 750ml... I can get Canadian 1867 brand of the save volume for less than that at Kroger. Usually. Makes me wonder what price Kroger puts on the Japanese stuff?

And I printed some horses for my Moorish warband, I started reading up on them. Seems that when El Cid fell out of favor with King Ferdinand of Spain, he went to work for his old enemies, the Moors...

"Over one hundred people"? Maybe it's time to cut back. I know that will be hard to do. Folks will show up just out of habit.
My first thought was to cut back. The heat in July will still be a problem for me. I also worry that people will show up regardless of what I do.
Louis, have you considered just "hosting" the get-together? Provide the venue, and some supplies, but let the younger, more able people do the actual work?
I've always hoped the young ones would step up. They enjoy being guests too much.
They do all the decorations.
The real problem is me. They have tried to help, I think to myself, "get out of the way, I'll do it". They don't have the experience. My wife has often asked me "how are they going to get any experience".
I need to step away and let them take over completly.
Louis... time to pass the baton. Tell someone else they can host. You'll bring a lawn chair, sunscreen, and a healthy appetite. And, do NOT loan out your crab pot.
That is what I am hoping will happen. I've been hinting at it for years. The time has come to ask flat out.
I don't even have much of an appetite anymore. Two hotdogs, one beer, and salad and I am done for the day.
Louis- Your health is more important than a BBQ. My 2 cents are just do something with the family if you're up to it. It sounds like your angel needs a break also. Your friends will understand, if they don't then they're not a real friend.
That is exactly right Curt.

Well, good morning! Goal 1 of 4 for 2023 now complete. Wiring to lights was corrected last night at the club and my first DC to DCC conversion is complete. Thanks to Fergus of our Dartmouth model railroad club and member of the NMRA for making this happen, what a great teacher! CN 4100 shown here running through her paces on the club track.
