Yeah my buses definitely outnumber my vw,
The Kombi was the go to vehicle for backpackers here in Oz (Aussie in this case), could be picked up cheap way back then. I see you have a couple or 3, even a FlowerPower version. They gradually got rare. In my little town of Caboolture, Queensland a small business started up restoring VeeDubs in the 1990's, especially the Kombi's. Used to see 2 or 3, sometimes more arriving on transporters from the Outback in particular where rust wasn't a big problem and parts stacked on pallets outside. Even though the business has gone they are still around the place.

Restored VW vans are big bucks now, the US loves 'em.

So are rats, a vw beetle. Add to look like it is all rusted and old when in fact it is 100 percent sound and has a replacement engine to power it up, porche is popular, and despite the rusty looking body has seriously nice wheels to speed with

some take it a step beyond just using part of the vehicle

does anyone have pictures of a real one that has been left to rust,I am not certain what Make to go look

Well, howdy there internet peeps, and those who have played SLUG Bug on road trips.

It's Troy again.

Two observations.... Amazon seems to have lost our shipment of un-assembled snowmen. We're a third of the way through the big blue mess on radar, and we don't even have a dusting of snow yet. Very much NOT complaining. :D

Second, although I HATE pro sports (and most sports... a combination of being the nerd in high school gym class when being a nerd wasn't cool, and my years as a pro photojournalist. Those sportswriters got a warm and cozy press box above the field, with hot cocoa, coffee, cookies, donuts, and maybe a masseuse??? I was on the field wearing insulated undies as the first of many layers, or in the rain with camera gear that had warning throughout the manuals: Do NOT expose to excessive moisture!)

Anyway, when I checked in on Twitter this morning, I saw that Packers and Ayn Rand were trending together. There were some very interesting political jokes and puns about the QB's supposed interest in that writer. Since they are in the "don't post it here" realm, I'll just direct you to Twitter. If you like the political side, I'm @ troyphoto (without the space). Feel free to follow me. I rarely tweet personal stuff there, though.

Wife said today is Mexican day. So I expect queso dip with my chips this afternoon, unless the snowmen arrive in numbers great enough to stall us at home. After that, I have to drive the wife back to MIL's place for (hopefully) only one more week.

Good Sunday morning to all,

A bit of snow, maybe two inches yesterday. Still feeling so much better. Strange thing is, I can't help wonder if I have been fighting a virus for some time, and the vax booster brought it to fore. Down hard Tuesday evening to Thursday morning, but then woke up feeling better than before the shot. Who knows.

Got some work done on the layout. Thursday afternoon wired up the replaced TO - works first time and little cleanup needed on the feeder solders. Yesterday I soldered up the wires to the DPDT switch to control my Program track coming off the TT. I bought a micro switch and was using 14 AWG from the Zephyr DCS52 program leads, so those two wires were a bit tricky to solder to posts obviously not designed for that size wire. Other than that, pretty straightforward. In stalled the switch into the fascia panel, connected up the wires including the two feeders and again, worked first time. Scary.

Today I hope to get some electrical prep work done for the main table. Though the trackwork inside the loops is not yet at final plan, I am solid enough to begin installing the DCC bus and support electrics. That should fill the afternoon.

Stopped watching American football ages ago, but felicitations and condolences to respective fans. - - - - - Steve J

Occasionally I will cherry pick sale items at Harris Teter. Usually when we go to Target because they are next to each other.
We also sometimes pick up a few items at Weis markets, only because it's the closest to us.
Harris Teeter, which is Kroger by another name, is located at the end of our road. It's very convenient, with decent pricing.
I usually used Walmart for their grocery pickup service. They don't charge a fee to pick up our stuff, and we don't run the risk of catching the Plague in the store--or making a hundred dollars worth of impulse purchases.
Whenever we'd go North for something, usually a vacation or funeral, I'd stop at Weis (deliberately mispronounced "we is"), I'd pick up several 12 packs of diet white birch beer. Nobody here sells it, and I'm not paying $50 on Amazon for a six pack of the stuff...

Upset day in the NFL! I feel bad for the fans of the #1 ranked teams. Losing at home is always hard to take. Especially when most of the prognosticators say your team will win easily.

"Any given Sunday" or in this case Saturday.

Try as the NFL might to make the league quarterback centric, defense and running the ball can still be the difference maker.

Just like it is in almost everything in the world, "blue collar" men and women get the job done.
All I saw was quarterbacks with lots of interceptions losing games……

That game in Green Bay reminded me of my days in the Corps playing war games in Korea in the 1980s. Very bitter cold and ya couldn't be up and running around. Being quiet and still for hours at a time as a forward observer had its downsides.
Never got around to fixing the Big Boy yesterday. The train show in Richmond was another disappointment. Might have been one or two vendors with new stuff. The rest was musty old boxes of Lionel stuff and hook horn HO stuff.
Gotta make a run to the land fill today then watch some more playoffs.
Timonium is just two weeks away.

Hate to rain on your parade, but from what your saying about the Train show's you've been able to get to, I wouldn't expect too much from Timonium, sounds like these guys are gonna take a while to get back up to speed.

OK : Just remebered- it was called a double bagger when I used to pack grub. I guess I just forgot (although I knew ) about the other use for bags. 🙄
I used to work 12 hr shifts, both nights & days. work 4, off 3, work 3, off 4. (alternating days & nights) So I could often end up with 9 days off (paid) if I subed in 3 vacation days. 🏝️

Good Morning All. Clear and 33° out here on the Ponderosa. Expecting another great day today with the temperature in the mid-60's just like yesterday.

Just read the news that Don Wilson, guitar player for The Ventures from 1958-2022, passed away yesterday at age 88. You younger guys and gals may not have heard of him or the instrumental band, but they ruled the airways in the early 60's.

Regarding our discussion here about grocery stores: I hate those plastic bags that are used. I see them everywhere on the sides of roads and out in the wilderness. I always request paper bags which the Kroger that I go to will willingly use. I recycle them in the wood-burning heater to stoke and to start things up. From there, they are further recycled when I use the ashes in the garden to provide potassium and lime, along with other trace fertilizer ingredients.

Thanks as always for the likes and comments regarding the woodworking shop yesterday; Gary, Tom O, Sherrel, Karl, OB Ken, Steve J, Hughie, Louis, Patrick, Smudge, Curt, Tom, Troy, Rick, George, Justin.

I did make it out to the train shed yesterday for a while. I did more ballasting and ground cover. Some of the still wet ground cover is lighter in color in these pictures.
From the south end behind the newer structures (off the layout for now).

That's as far as I got yesterday and Friday.
I also sprayed the most recently painted figures with dull coat to protect the paint and reduce the fading of the colors.

Yep! 35 of them along with a bench that will go in front of the Antiques Barn. That's a cast on the forearm of the man on the right side of the bench.

Smudge -
You do know warm or hot water freezes quicker than cold, right?
Only partly true. The water must be boiled first to make it warm, it doesn't work with water that warms up due to being in a warm place. It has to do with boiling out the air bubbles. We did experiments on this in high school physics class.

Everybody have a great Sunday. Stay safe and warm, and go to the church of you choice.
