That good it is looking positive for you at this point, most mergers or acquisitions don't turn out to be bidness as usual.

Yeah, this one should be OK. This will be the third company I've worked for in the same job, team, product area, boss, etc.

Jan 2016 I got hired by a company in Ft Wayne IN as a SW engineer. End of October 2016 we got bought by the current company, who merged their SW people with ours and in some ways turned over their future SW efforts to the company they bought. Same bosses, team etc. Now this one will be the same. It seems we'll mostly operate as an autonomous business unit of the new company, using their resources to grow, and allowing the sales teams to have more comprehensive offerings etc.

Time will tell. Today there is a company wide meeting with the new company's management... (By Zoom, of course).

In otehr news, our family has been under the weather a little this week. Monday my daughter came home from school complaining of being drained out and tired, maybe a minor, intermittent cough. She stayed home from school Tuesday but by Tuesday evening was her fine self.

Wednesday my son felt tired and worn out and had a fever. He has missed work the last two days though he seems to be on the mend.

Wife has been complaining of being worn out and yesterday I had some chills (thermometer show 99.5F so barely a fever) and last night as well I was chilled and shivering for a while. Today I feel washed out. I told the folks at work I'd get a few things done that need to get done but that otherwise I would be napping and trying to get over this.

Morning fellers. Enjoying a snow day today. The kids will want to go out in it today for sure. There is sledding to be had. Afterwards I don't know what I'll get into. Some different opinions here on layout design. I mean I guess I could always build one these layouts:

All kidding aside here. I'm done building the sacred sheet layout. Only if I absolutely have to and that's still going to be a tall order. The duck under I don't mind. The layout comes apart for expansion. I can open it up down the road. At which point I can make it a point to point or what have you. So the duck under isn't a permanent fixture to this layout. It fits the current footprint that my current layout occupies. The second would eliminate the duck under. It occupies approximately an 8x8 space. So bigger than my current space. I'd have to apply for a permit to get the required space. Lastly here. Anyone have experience with the Suydam metal kits? They have some mine kits that are an improvement to the Walthers mine kits. They fit my demographic just a little better. That's all I have for now. Hope everyone is doing well. I'll stop by later if I get a chance.

Good Morning all! Happy Friday
26F and snowing. Weather guesser was part right - got about a foot since yesterday for about 18" total; depending on where you stand. It is still snowing small stuff and is to continue most of the day. Says it is gonna be 40F about 1500 - we will see.

Agreed.

Our neighbors growing up were Italians from Jersey who had relocated to Mass (where I grew up age 10+). They said that their Catholic Italian funerals were always fun parties with eating and music and stuff, celebrating the person who had passed and remembering them, and as a way for the family to reconnect. Until the mafia guys would show up to pay their respects. Then it got somber, and quiet. Once they were gone, it went back to the joyful celebration...
My aunt married a spam of Italian descent and promptly moved to New York, now I know his mum was a great cook she taught my aunt grow to cook Italian, but unfortunately my aunt was not the faithful type and I do not think there was any mafia leanings but my uncle did not let any hits on his manhood pass, my aunt messed with her husbands boss who owned a glass sheet business after at least one load of glass ended up smashed, I believe the van/lorry kept moving minus driver, well the boss decided to desist and my uncle decided to change job, there were a couple of not so obvious but suspiciously similar incidents, he also had a soft heart and lasted one day as an ice cream seller, giving away to the poor kids who could not afford to buy, or maybe the boss had a connection to the wife, they divorced not surprisingly, but I always admire the stories of eu(gene) and despite much provocation he never took his hand to her,and he was nice looking and athletic why she need to look elsewhere always escaped me, back in the uk she took up with someone who played jazz as a hobby and they lasted until her death not long ago, and as far as I know she kept to the vows, they divorced when I was very young and I do not remember meeting him,but I know he did a bit of small part acting in films, I think one was one of the god father movies but despite my cousin pointing this out I could not spot him but then he would have been a lot older than the pictures I saw of him…..there you go a fact you didn’t know didn’t need to know, and will like waste a brain cell for a while before you thankfully forget about this post….grins.

I vote beavers creak, plenty of options for running trains,at least two building areas, and some water, bliss.

I like the Beaver Creek layout, definitely a challenge to build, but the terrain variations, would make for a very interesting layout.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those who hate the marshmallow Peeps

It's Troy again.

I decalled the Roman shields last evening. These particular decals were very fiddly. Each long half of the shield had a top and bottom squiggle and they rolled under very easily. Fortunately, I had almost double the number that I needed.

Got to have lunch with my Wife and MIL. They came up to the big city and are touring the senior living communities today. Sis in Law went with them. I'm back in the dungeon, supposedly writing.

Wife will return with MIL to the rural southlands tonight. No end in sight yet for her staying with her mother. MIL did request to set up a meeting with an attorney who specializes in estate/retirement management. And, of course, they're moving offices so wife and they are playing phone tag. The ONE call back she got came as she was in the loo and didn't have the phone. She called back within two minutes, and went to voicemail.

Gaming tourney tomorrow. Working on forms and such for it in-between writing sprint.

Back to the grindstone.

Justin: These kits have been around at least since I started in the hobby in the early 1960s. While some of the details are a little crude, by today's standards, these kits are Craftsman Level kits that look good once completed. I have completed a couple, and botched a few, because I didn't pay attention to the instructions. If you take your time, you will be satisfied.

The snowfall amounted to about 5½" of dry, powdery snow. It cleaned up well, using shovels to push it off the driveway, clear the sidewalks and apron. It's mostly sunny, and in the upper 30s, so the driveway should dry, before the temperatures return to below freezing.

More measurable snow, is possible next week...well, it is Winter.

Many moons ago, I drew this plan. Hope that helps.

Good Morning everyone....sunny and cold with the morning temperature at 3 degrees and the Wind chill at a -13 degrees and its only the start of January and Winter. Warmer tomorrow and then colder.

Willie: So very sorry for your lost and I like your family's attitude towards life and death. Your family is like my Mother's side of the family and while we had funerals, but the wakes were more party-like to celebrate the family member life who passed. They had the normal wake and visitation the night before the funeral and lunch and/or dinner after the funeral services. I remember at my Grandfather passing when I was 16 and I was at my Grandmother's house after the funeral and my Grandmother handed me a Whiskey and sweet soda and said its time for me to have a drink in your Grandfather's honor. My first hard liquor!!!

Alcomotive: I enjoyed your video of a truck getting lightly struck by a log train in Iron Mountain, Michigan. I know the Iron Mountain region very well since we rode our Gold Wing motorcycle around that area many a summer and fall. Usually we came from the UP across and down or up from Southeast Wisconsin.

Chadbag: I been through one acquisition of our company and several mergers and for the most part the benefits and wages improved. The worst part was interviewing for my own job or a one similar with more responsibilities. During one merger I had to interview with a fellow who during the interview I realized I knew him from our college years and would run into him at a burger hangout or beer bars. We shared some highlights of our beer drinking days and several days later I was on board and second in command of all Operations under his overview.

Justin: We visited Jerome on one trip to Arizona and I have the issue of Model Railroader where John Olsen's Jerome and Southeast Railroad was featured and later Kalmbach released a book on the building of Olsen's railroad. The track plan was simple, but with well done scenery. I've seen the model in person on one occasion.

Here's link to a well detailed model railroad of a eastern coal hauler with many scratch-built structures.

That's about all for today.

I actually have the book as well. That's where the plan comes from. I was very much intrigued by what he accomplished. Made me feel like I sold myself short. It's interesting as well that you have seen this layout in person. Call it a stroke of luck maybe?

Crude in nature is the name of the game. Mine load outs were very crude in nature. I came across two kits that I found would be an improvement style wise to the new river kit. The new river mine kit is massive. It's a space hog. I'm looking at the black Bart mine as a decent looking truck loader. The red river mine that's elevated would add interest as well. Given the experience you have with these. Did you solder the joints during the construction phase?
