People leave the forum and come back later, maybe not as often -- What's wrong with that??

Sometimes it is hard for me to figure out CHRISTIAN -- he admits he is French!
I find many of his posts amusing and he has a love of trains!
That gives him a "notch up" in my book.

Afternoon ya'll.

I started "Wicked Wanda's this afternoon. It is another Bar Mills structure. It is an interesting build. It is modeled after a diner called, you guessed it, Wanda's. So now they sell it as "Wicked Wanda's". I'm forced to consider a house of ill repute. Or do I just go with a quaint eatery? I guess we'll find out once it it completed and ready to plant.

STAY SAFE (Hoping this is the last year I sign off like this)
LATER

Wow, you started this afternoon and you got all this done!

And it looks great, too.

Hi Folks
Well, welcome to 2022 lets hope this year gets a little better shall we.

Today was pretty much a wasted day, decided to finally try out my collection of HO loco's, freight and passenger cars. I need not have bothered, Loco's run fine except the SD 60, that has to run about 20 mins hood first before I can get it to run cab first, otherwise it derails in opposite corners ????
None of my cars will run behind any loco, bloody KD's are different heights and barely touch, after several hours of fecklin' and getting peed off, I decided to try the few offset KD coupler's that I have, tried them, but the height difference was still bad and uncoupled every chance they got, thought about the new Walther 33" wheelsets I bought, nope, made it even worse.
The coupling's on the cars are also shot, and wont stay coupled up, some is my fault as there are a 1% gradient, but they should cope with that.
I can't lower the couplings on the Loco's unless I want to chop chunks out of the front and rear counters.

So I'm down to plan D or F, whichever it is:
remove couplers from trucks and fit to body frame.
get more offset KD's
and/or
get bigger wheelsets.

Plan G
Flog the lot and go back to OO scale.

😊
It seems 36" is the largest wheelset I can get for HO, I did try OO just to see "if" and it's a "no" so I just bought a cheapo proto 2000 40' boxcar in kit form, now I don't have to demolish one of my other freight cars to see how I can fix this annoying problem, all I need is the axles and chassis to basically kit bash/cut, glue/add to, without having to worry about breaking anything else accidentally, Yes I know, it's a weird way of doing it, but I'm a brit, we do have a reputation to uphold. 🤣

Well, I sure hope you saved one of his track plans for reference! Don't sound like we'll be seeing many more of them any time soon!

Nothing wrong with leaving for a bit and come back lots of us do because of life I’m one of them. Summer months I’m always too busy for my Hobbies. The difference is I don’t leave and keep coming back with a different name or leave and post stating this will be my last post good bye. We’re all to old for playground games like that at least I am people like that to me just want attention. If you love trains like he does post your stuff when you can and stay on don’t go leaving and coming back all the time because some one ate the Icing off of your Cupcake. Sorry I have a low tolerance for these kinds of people.

MIKEY - Growing up in the South, I like your style! Just last evening the Spousal Unit cooked up a large pot of Large Lima Beans with a hambone from Christmas along with a pan pf cornbread. My Mom really made beans and ham great, but I have to say that my baby out did her; she added chopped up onion, carrots, and celery to the fray. Not enough to be overpowering, but just for an added flavor - I stuffed myself!
Sherrel- My wife drug out the left over Christmas ham from where she hid it from my ham sandwich lunch time. I added it to the peas with mixed veggies and several spices. My third helping was not as good as the first two. I got full before i could finish my food.
I have been completely useless since then.

I do hope no one takes offense at anything I type. I tend toward tongue-in-cheek humor.

My normal greeting "Well, howdy there..." is a direct copy of one of my favorite youtubers with a redneck bent on current events. And I've started trying to find themes to add to each greeting based on the previous day's conversation.

Christian seems to enjoy finding new ways to make a simple oval more complex, so I enjoy teasing him about his stunning terrain skills (I love his cacti, but he really needs a coyote and roadrunner). ;)

Hughie- have you considered making it an inn, with foods and rooms.... by the hour?

I did a smoked ham tonight along with cabbage, separately. My wife made an excellent batch of cornbread and cooked up a pot of black-eyed peas. I don't particularly like black-eyed peas, but since she's a Southern girl, I ate a requisite tablespoonful.
Meanwhile it has dropped to 24° but the wind is dying down slightly.

Happy New Year, Shop Dwellers!

Sorry to see that Christian left us so abruptly.

Willie - WOW, looks like you've been slammed with an Arctic blast! Good thing you have a wood-burning stove to keep your place warm in case the wind knocks out your electricity.

Looks like I jinxed my recovery yesterday by saying I felt fine. After running a train for ~30 minutes in the afternoon, I started feeling the familiar scratchy throat that typically signals the onset of a cold, so I headed back upstairs. No runny nose, coughing or even a fever - just felt weak. So I decided I better NOT venture away from the house like I had planned. (Still have NOT heard back about the result of my PCR test..?!) At bedtime I figured I'd be having cold symptoms, so I took Nyquil - and that stuff really knocked me out! I slept from ~11:30pm to 10:30am, with only one nature call at ~5:15am.

When I got out of bed, I didn't really feel much better. I thought maybe I was dehydrated, so I drank a few bottles of water and that seemed to help a little bit. Still no fever or other cold symptoms, but a general malaise. This is a bit of a culture shock for me as I generally don't get sick - the last time I felt this bad was when I had pneumonia in January 1997. One thing I definitely will NOT do is take any more Nyquil! Not sure exactly what is wrong with me, but I hope it resolves quickly...o_O

Jaz avalley - Curious! Why does a figure in you're post have a horses head and there's a coffin in the scene? Is that some kind of weird satanic ritual from British New Years you are modelling? - I'm actually scared to ask, but curiosity gets the best of me.
LOL it is what is known as Morris Dancing. The horses head is unusual if I am honest, although colourful. The white hankies are often seen though, and bells on the costume are normal, so as they dance they might do staccato dancing with the ringing part, it is usually males who dance although modern ones have more women in them. flowers on hats are popular. if you do an internet search you’ll see they often do their own music, a violin / fiddle is very popular, or a wheeze box, tambourine or a whistle or recorder, nowadays guitars are fairly popular, but it derived from village dancing around the time of dancing around the pole, this horse head - most unusual does have sone satanic overtones it reminded me of a certain gangster movie, but the idea was that a member of the dance team had died and his mates were out in force to commemorate him, so the coffin, the church, the film crew as having Morris dancers at a funeral is unusual.
I personally like halloween and am not above the striped green legs flowing costume and witches hat, sorry no photograph, but I draw the line at satanism, although I keep goats. Who after they broke my ankle and dislocated my knee can count themselves lucky they are not in the

Oh yes road runner and coyote on a dessert would be fun……and mate I certainly thought your teasing in keeping with this forum and I was often amused by your comments, playfulness is exactly right here in my opinion. He mentioned he had been kicked off forums before, so I suspect he may have a habit of leaving before being booted, some forums have no truck with anything they think lacking, and people with loads of friends, well followed threads, supposedly ‘better’ skills, are not above crushing anyone to beef themselves up, which is why I like it here so much, people are just kinder, tongue in cheek, and have a sense of play, and if I am honest there are sone people who go places to seed discord, I do not think he was such a one, some people enjoy hobbies in different ways, and honestly as we get older we can use the use of our hands, I have seen a few modellers reduced to advice givers as they age,I have also seen them ridiculed for not putting up new work, and I have got into the odd Barney over it, people who lose a home for their layout especially if downsizing, people who end up in care, or moving in with family as they need assisted living can have loads of knowledge, but cannot produce the work, I did get the impression we were unlikely to encourage any sense of scenery however simple to undertake

I always take the attitude not to be the first to throw stones, nor the second and not at all, unless of course someone is mean to me first then if I am positive it is more than one comment and not an accident I am not above littering to prove my modelling capabilities, I may be small well 5ft 4ins but I can on the odd occasion fire up, luckily for those who know me in person I do not throw things which I understand is far from unusual in my family, in over 30s of marriage I have occasionally riled the other half, but we are still in one piece and never resorted to violence, which I think is a fair testament. probably as well as he outsizes me by a good 7 inches, and is pretty strong to boot, I think I can out run him ; although I would not like to put it to the test……grins.

Good Evening!

Jaz - I'm not quite sure what to think about the Morris dance. I suppose if they're hitting each other with sticks and pie plates, the coffin might be a necessary extra on you're model. It's all definitely something that is European. I can't imagine such a thing on this continent.

One of the nice things about small town living, is that I don't have to go outside to watch the fireworks. Simply look out the window!
They were on full core at about 7pm. At first I thought all the popping and banging was my furnace acting up.

I do hope no one takes offense at anything I type.
Nope, I never take offense about what anyone types. I was going to talk to you about the weird new avi, though...

Here's a rerun on a train picture:

Have a great night, everyone!

Hello from frozen at 12f degrees Wisconsin. After a couple nights either on the cave couch or my chair, I am in bed wide awake. The wind chill is making it feel like +2f. This is the high for 1/2/2022 per the WeatherChannel app. I have been trying to stay away from anything online for the past few days and I think it’s helped till now.

I guess I didn’t realize when Christian said good bye he was quitting the forum. His pictures of the countryside in France was definitely worth anything else he posted. I will miss his humor and roundly rounds.

We missed on 1/1 and will again today the UW Badger Women Hockey play at home. 1st games since 2014 we both missed the games. Just not worth the miserable snowy weather we had on 1/1, the Covid running rampart in Wisconsin and I am not in a good spot right now. So we gave away the tickets to a lady who took her son and niece and we’re so happy and thanked us for the tickets.

Eyes are closing so time for me to go
TomO
