Latest Cecila update from my niece:

Surgery was a success! Cecilia is such a fighter. We are still not out of the woods, but there is much more hope. In a few days she will be decreasing some of the meds that are keeping her unconscious and the long journey to recovery begins.
Thanks for your continued prayers and support. We couldn’t be doing this without all the love
That is great news!

I will continue to keep her in my thoughts and prayers!

Greetings all!

Chill start to the day at 18F, but soaring to a high of 42! Near 50 tomorrow, but then cold and snow for Saturday.

Willie: Wifeykins is in your neck o' the woods as she is in the Las Colinas area for a work trip. Mid 80s is practically snuffing that Minnesota snowbird! Las Colinas: When I was a kid in the late60s/early 70s, Dad had a golf membership out there. Took forever to get there from North Dallas and was a wilderness trek. Miles and miles of scrub ranchland, or so it seemed to this kid. Now? not so much!

Last week I picked up my new hearing aids from the VA Med Center in Minneapolis. I must admit, the practitioner was very good, caring and empathetic. She even recorded an order to come back next year to be fitted for a new set as she insists I NEED a back-up set. They work great. In fact, when I walked into the atrium after leaving her clinic, I suffered an anxiety attack. Hearing things I haven't heard for years! I've been mentally fatigued and my RN wife says it's because the old rattrap has been processing more info and data than it has for a loooooooong time. Thanks taxpayers!! Oh, and the monthly check is kinda nice, too.
Serious suggestion on the hearing aids. Take the volume down two notches for a day or two. Raise them one notch (so you're at -1) for the next two days. Sneak up on full hearing.

I normally set mine at just below where I can hear my voice duplicated when I talk. The Hearing folks like to set it there so you have room to go up in volume if you get somewhere you can't understand conversation.

Good day all. Troy is doing very little on his cruise. We are doing just as much.
We are due to dock in Philadelphia in the morning. The port seems very long away. We shall see. We shall arrive when we get there.
Our next port afterwards is New York where we disembark.

A wrist rocket slingshot is about $12. Their design has been the standard for ages.

Put a 1911 style grip on it and raise the price to almost $200. Wilson Combat should stick to 1911's.

That’s their California model.

Welp, howdy there peeps with clean undies.

Still no delivery of freshly washed shorts (but it's early).

Wife is doing nothing up by the pool. I was doing nothing hanging out with Gen James Longstreet. Or rather a book about him.

(Link is to the dead tree version. there is an ebook as well)

Gettysburg always seemed to be a total and idiotic battle. Lee is hailed as a grand strategist, but he blundered soooooo badly there. Turns out the Lost Cause crusade that began before the Civil War ended had an answer to explain Lee's actions:

Longstreet, they said, sabotaged him because his knickers were twisted that Lee wouldn't listen to him.

This book looks at the written records, the few surving interviews and letters, and draws very different conclusions about Longstreet at that battle. I agree with the author that had Longstreet and not Lee lead the incursion into Pennsylvania, we'd be two different countries right now.

Now to go read about Gen Meade on the other side.

Gratefully this Donnerstag is not a Tag of Donner. Though it would be nice if it was a Tag des Regnens oder Schneiens (im Gebirge)

Winter has mostly passed us by. Which will be a problem this summer in terms of water. At around 8 am it was 40F and now at 10:15am it is 46F and likely to be high 50s either the next fewvdays low 60s. It’s been that way since Monday. 50s and 60s though overcast and it did rain a lot Tuesday. Unfortunately it also rained in the mountains, which prematurely melts the snow.

Now Kita of big billowy clouds but patches of see blue in between. Previous days the in-between was light blue and high altitude white whisky.

Were starting to see a chance of rains starting Sun through Tuesday and a couple scattered days in addition in the following week. Unfortunately its showing a high in the high 50s or low to mid 60s for most of this time so that means it won’t snow in the mountains most likely.

I don’t mind the weather here but we need the snow in the mountains. I could actually use more blue sky if it’s going to be this warm so my solar generation goes up. Not the cloudy and mostly cloudy showing for most of the week.

Actually, speaking of weather, I made the acquaintance of a very well known in Utah weatherman, now mostly retired, on Sunday. I knew he lived in the neighborhood as he periodically flies his drone over the neighborhood and posts the video he takes to a neighborhood FB group. But I hadn’t met him. I saw someone I didn’t recognize at church a week and a half ago and they called him the weatherman’s first name so I thought it might be him but didn’t know for sure but this past Sunday he came to me to introduce himself and ask aboutbour house and if we had any water issues. It turns out he lives just around corner abdunkeln a few houses further west (up hill) and has an underground waterway passing near his house causing some flooding issues in his yard etc and he’d heard I’d had issues. He wanted to compare notes. I‘ve not had issues but we ended up talking for almost an hour and he told me about his weather station he has in his attic or upstairs bonus space. Somewhere in his house. And he told me his forecast was for most of what we’ve had most of the winter, for the next 16 days. It was interesting talking about it. Interesting guy.

Another well know Utah weatherman (now also long retired) also lived in this neighborhood and went to church with “us” though I never met him as he no longer lives here and may have moved before we moved into this part of the neighborhoood. Our old house further east was a different congregation (it’s divided geographically). But his two sons and their families live here and I talk to them all the time. One is a home builder GC and helped me with a door.

Anyway, enough rambling.

Back from errands and my meeting with the financial guy. He's not our main one, but based on his point in time, and me starting social security at my full age of 67, KPERS and SS will cover our expenses. His 457 and my Roth will be extra money. And all the accounts will growing more than they are now. Point in time is based on current funds and not where they should be in 5 years.

Fedex has screwed me again. Firearm still sitting in Memphis when it should be sitting in my dealer's safe right this minute. That is, if it didn't make its way to a Fedex employee's vehicle. Time will tell and a claim will be submitted tomorrow if I don't see that package on a delivery truck first thing in the morning.

The only time anything ever comes on time from either Fedex or UPS is when it comes from Germany. Go figure.

When Hatton's were still around I would order all my Peco stuff from them since it was way cheaper even paying overseas shipping than anyone in the states by a pretty good margin.

DHL would get it to my door in 3 days. It was as direct as you can get. Hatton's to Heathrow, Heathrow to Chicago O'Hare, then to Rockford ,
then to me. I don't think UPS or FedEx could do that, and there's no way USPS could.
