Back in the early 80s as a Conrail manager, we were required to submit a weekly activity report detailing what we did. Every Saunday morning, I was designated to go in to the office and retrieve the reports from the fax, and fax them in to system operations... Just as pointless as this current stuff is..... Lasted for maybe a half a year, until the man who ordered them wondered what we were sending, and told us to stop.
Sorry Boris I still want to know what everyone here has accomplished on their train layout in the last 5 days. That's not asking too much to make some of these modelers accountable. I know some people are going to claim they have been shoveling snow for 5 days in a row etc.

The explanation I was given is more of a "if you don't submit a report, you aren't an employee" thing. An employee that doesn't exist isn't going to send an email detailing their work. I'm sure there's more than a few "paper employees" that will get caught.
No doubt the media embellished this to some extent, but there are numerous hard working and essential people who are quite pissed about the policy....No doubt some people that just take up space or "work" from home by moving the mouse occasionally, that could be eliminated, but there is no good way to tell from e-mail responses. This will eventually pass.

I think I have complied....in addition, I removed track to provide space for a steel mill siding.....Next I have crossing protection to install and reorder. how's that?

I told this story here before. When I bid on the Harmon 8am to 4pm hostler job in 1974 I found out quick all the fraud that was going on there. I turned in my pay stub the first week I was there and right away got a lot slack from the other 5 hostlers 2 hostlers per shift. When a hostler has to move and couple on a dead engine the railroad made an agreement that he would receive 4 hours overtime. They worked out this arrangement because it would cost them more if a switching crew had to make the move. The thing was I didn't move any dead engines the first week I was there or any other week and neither did anyone else but the other 5 hostlers everyday put in they moved a dead engine and received 4-hour overtime per day. So one of the hostlers confronted me one day and told me I would have to start saying I moved a dead engine every day or else I might find my car with 4 flat tires or worst. I should have turned them all in for defrauding the company, but I had the most sonority of them all, so I bid the 20th Century Limited job. I worked that job until they told me I was set up as an engineer in Selkirk NY and with that I bid back the Harlem Division. When I got back, to the Harmel Division. I told everyone what cooks they have working Hudson Division. We did not do that on the Harmel Division hosteling jobs. Their lucky I bid out of there because if they did any damage to my car their life on the railroad would have been over. I do not like dishonest people.

Accountability? In hobby space?

I'm so flighty I never do well with accountability. But I get what needs to be done, done. That's why I made a good news photographer. There were programmed assignments each day and a lot of breaking news I had to go cover.

Though the sports editor, who tried to get me to cover three different ball games each Friday night (about 10 minutes at each) got pissy when I was driving between game 1 and game 2, and heard "Pedestrian struck by train" on the mainline into the Elkhart yard. Of course, the crossroad location dispatch gave over the police frequency was a good mile beyond where the "victim" lay. (Suicide by train)

By the time I parked and walked that far, grabbed a couple of shots, I had to chose which of the remaining two games to try to hit. I chose the closer one. Wrong choice. Sports editor really wanted game 2 covered.

Well, why did you tell me to drive like a bat outta hell to get to thee games?

Good morning gang

In the last five days, what I have done on the layout.

1) not a damn thing!😆😉😁😆😀
Better watch out, Im keeping right up with you! 🤣
Don’t fear boys! Your lack of train time has been covered. On Saturday, Sunday and Monday I put more hours and effort in the train room than I had combined time since mid-November. Of course I crashed around dinner time last night and had no desire to venture into the train room.

Sounds like you both could use a little bit of online buying therapy or venture over to your nearest hobby shop or craft store. Today I am stopping at one of my local stores, Hiawatha Hobbies, just 75 minutes down the block

Good morning from an unexpectedly clear So. Central Wisconsin sky. The WeatherChannel app mentioned last night I’d wake to more rain and lots of clouds. The app is wrong.

It’s 38f degrees heading to 50+. The rain per the app was officially 1.25”. I put the manual rain collector out yesterday afternoon and it gathered just under 1/2” but it and the last 2 days of warmth have destroyed our snow cover.

I made some purchases online yesterday and will pick them up sometime today, either at 10am or on the way home around 4. I am heading to Racine to help out Terry’s friend, then a late lunch with her, a brief stop to meet with Terry’s youngest brother and then home. I will stop at Hiawatha Hobbies for the pickup, just not sure what time.

Terry said in our phone call last night no deal yet on the real estate in Wimberley. There is a back up place closer to San Marcos that the 3 of them will look at again today. The Lockhart place was ruled out because it’s in a flood plain. The son is looking for something that already has an air strip for his remaining 2 planes or a strip can be built that the FAA will approve. He would prefer a place like the Wimberley ranch that already has a strip. An hour out from Austin is a far as either want to move. Terry will be home Wednesday night as she has medical on Thursday.

Enjoy your day
