I feel your pain, I have nearly a dozen computers, counting laptops and desktops that don't meet the requirements. Only two of my computers, one desktop and one laptop do meet the requirements and have already been upgraded.

My choice of upgrading rather than replacing old stuff proved not to be so smart.

Microsoft had no choice. To keep pace with security these requirements must be met and to increase performance.

Many computers are deemed unfit for Windows 11 primarily due to hardware requirements that weren't met by older devices. Here are some key reasons:
  1. TPM 2.0: Windows 11 requires a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0, which is a security feature. Many older computers lack this chip.
  2. Secure Boot: This feature ensures that only trusted software can run during the boot process. Some older systems don't support it.
  3. Processor Compatibility: Windows 11 requires processors that support certain instruction sets, like SSE4.2. Older CPUs often don't meet these criteria. Intel credits feedback from developers as playing a significant role in the development of the instruction set.
  4. RAM and Storage: The minimum requirements for RAM and storage have increased, which means some older systems with less memory or storage capacity are not compatible. Usually, an easy fix if all other requirements are met.
Microsoft has provided ways to install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware, but it's not recommended due to potential issues with stability and updates.

Progress is painful and believe me, I'm going to be feeling it! Many of my Windows 10 computers are redundant, a few have not been turned on in months. But I will need to buy at least three new systems that can run Windows 11. Otherwise, I will risk letting the "bad guys" get into my network once Windows 10 is no longer supported.

FYI: My Brother all in one laser printer is over 12 years old and works perfectly with my Windows 11 desktop and laptop.
Windows 11 also has "Copilot". This records, for all intents and purposes, everything you do on your computer. In other words NO PRIVACY WHAT SO EVER ! And no way to delete or disable this feature. MS says they keep this info for their use but you can bet your sweet a$$ that government agencies and others also have access. It seems socialism has invaded MS. What used to be a straight forward operating system has now morphed into an invasive and controlling operation. We have now become "slaves" to the system.
I recently purchased a new laptop that has Win 11 Pro on it so I can continue to do business and communicate with the outside world. But I am waiting to set it up until September right before support of Win 10 ends.

Windows 11, and 10, if it's been updated to the last version, have Copilot. That is like Cortana used to be, with more Artificial Idiocy stirred in. Copilot can be uninstalled and removed completely, and is something I do to all machines I have that it's installed on. It's very privacy-invasive, but nothing like Recall, which takes a snapshot of your screen every few seconds and saves it (somewhere). That is not currently available, after a huge pushback about privacy. Supposedly, Recall is opt-in, but I've been to that dance before. It'll start out as opt-in, then in a few updates, it'll be opt-out, then after a few more updates, It'll be always enabled with no easy way to get rid of it. After that, it'll be an integral part of Windows, and won't be able to be uninstalled without bricking the system.

Swal - Regarding the OSHA training that I endured for years. While our company had a safety director since the late 80's or so, they finally hired one who was certified to teach the OSHA courses around 2008. He was also cognizant of our time and spread the 30 hour course out over two weeks instead of cramming it all in in less than a week.
Willie a friend of mine was at the Indian Point nuclear power plant the same time I was there. He stayed the whole outage. Later on, he contracted Leukemia and some teeth fell out. He told me he thought it may have been from the time he worked there but couldn't prove it. Although they drain the turbines not all the radiative water is completely gone. The class instructor said, there's nothing to worry about it's all safe. I didn't believe the guy and I got out of there.

Co pilot can be deleted, but you need to check after each major update. They have a habit of slipping copilot, drive and the cloud back in during updates. I'm pretty much running off of a 256GB SD card - initially started with a 64GB card as back-up. Fortunately, for me, I don't generate a lot of data any longer, or my scheme wouldn't work, and I would need a bigger external drive.

George: Good point. I was thinking about my experience during and after a Hazardous Material Storage Facility fire in Chester Pa in February 1978. As I age and come down with some somewhat unusual ailments 47 years later. I was further reminded about this this week as a massive Industrial Fire tool out a large facility in Abington, PA, outside Philly. Burned for 3 days at least. Who knows what was in there. Then tonight, another massive fire in a scrap yard in Camden, NJ spewed tons of ugly black smoke across the Delaware into Pennsylvania. If you don't glow in the dark, the green and purple flames will get ya. It's all safe, yeah, Right.

Final thoughts tonight as I relish in Villanova soundly beating Marquette 81-66 in Men's NCAA BB.
27° and clear. It actually went to 37° today, and 40° is predicted for tomorrow. NHL Hockey resumes when Washington Capitals take on Pittsburgh Penguins at 3PM on ABC TV. Baseball Preseason has a full calendar both in Florida and Arizona, mets are televised on Cable but streaming is blacked out. Hope Baltimore is streamed.
