Hello from a warming 2:15am Wisconsin. The low is only -1f degrees and it feels like -11. At 3pm Tuesday the actual was +4 and the wind chill -20. So us northerns are getting warmer, so you shall also be warm again.

I guess it’s obvious I’m unable to sleep as I rarely post in the 2 to 3am hour range!

The work session at the friend’s place went well. Took down a 30’ Penisula and the raised flooring on 2x4’s under it. Even though he had the new plans on the wall until this work session the arrangement seemed convoluted but now it’s a simple plan. 650’ of visible mainline and another couple hundred in the helix. Next week we will be disconnecting his huge ore dock and raising it in the same area 16” to the highest point of the new layout.

I will be on my layout as all work sessions at the 2 layouts are cancelled until the 28th. Both owners along with others in the group are traveling to other states for operating sessions. I know 10 are going Thursday night for 3 full days of op sessions in Northern, Illinois. The following weekend there is a group of 12 heading to Omaha to operate and 8 more heading to Tennessee. Not me! While I love to operate, that ‘s too much.

When I was picked up yesterday I tried to use the keypad outside the big garage door to close it. That didn’t work! I walked back into the garage used the extra opener from car to close it. I will check the battery on the keypad today.

That it’s from here. I’ll play some game on the IPadPro until I’m tired enough to crawl back into bed

Be well

Good morning! It's 10°F (0°F windchill) and cloudy in Tipton.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those with smoke detectors that are used for something other than announcing when dinner is ready.

It's Troy again.

Finished round one of editing the audio book. Sent the notes to the narrator. Now I wait until she catches up.

Did some work on the feudal religious toy soldier nutters I'm fielding this weekend. Trying to clear my hobby table. But it won't last long. There are always more to come.

the Archangel is about 10 in (25cm) tall. The men at arms each stand about 1.75 in (38mm) tall.

this weekend is monthly game day, so I need to crank out some of the army officers to go with these blokes and their angel made from church parts.

up later today, I need to move the toilet paper holder in my loo. More on that later.

Morning all,

Currently 1° with a windchill of -18°. Ended up with about 5" of snow.

At the office early, as I expected roads to be worse. Once the winds calmed a bit the major east\west roads aren't terrible, still some packed snow spots, but north\south roads are almost completely packed snow. They have been plowed and treated as much as they can.

Patrick - Thanks for capturing the precipitation today and keeping up your way, but you let the cold air come down. We're down to 18° on the way to 12° later tonight.

Sorry Willie, It's what happens when the St. Francis dam breaks.... we all get buried.

Good morning gang!

13° under cloudy skies, only getting to 25° today. Maybe snow later, maybe not. The roads have been brined to the gills, so my bet is no snow, it will all be wasted effort.

I received a new undec P2K GP9 last night, and true to form 3 of the 4 axles were split but I had new gears in stock so it didn't take long to get it fixed and running smooth. Now to put the shell in the paint line for when the weather breaks.

Would somebody shut the freezer door!!!! 🥶

That's a good looking signal cantilever bridge Swal. I have three of them on my empire and using Train Controller Silver to run the signals.
Atlas bought the BLMA model company about ten years ago.

Nice video Ken. I was thinking about using 4 home board (3 aspect signals) that would be the proper signals to use in a crossover situation. That would be over my budget but you could get the flashing green in the middle 45 MPH the next signal is clear and the green on the bottom 10mph the next signal is clear and all the yellow flashing aspects that you might encounter when crossing over.

This is also hard wired, all 10 are! They are 1st Alert units. While at the work session at the friends house on Tuesday I found out how to disconnect the unit entirely. Today I will take the one off the ceiling in the train room and see the build date. If they are past the 10 year build dates I’ll be buying all new ones.
If you do replace them, first alert makes a hard wired one that has a “never replace” battery so hopefully you don’t need to do the twice a year 9v replacement cycle. Saves a lot of $ over 10 years.

Karl: My experience with P2K units is that they are the best runners I have...(that includes the more recent Walthers Proto version). Gear replacement is an easy fix. (I have several GP7s that are still running with the original axles). Good deal, enjoy. Photos when warm enough to paint.

Good Morning All. Cloudy, windy and 10°, not a pleasant start to the day. Wind chill of -10°. Surprise, there's a dusting of white outside, haven't stepped out yet to determine whether it's snow or sleet. Pretty light dusting though; won't be an issue unless one plans on driving. Many around here know how to drive on snow and some know how to drive on ice, but there are newcomers as you get closer to civilization. High today expected to be 27°

Primary care physician visit for both of us yesterday went well. He scheduled our next appointment so he expects both of us to live until then. Waiting on the results of the blood tests now. He was surprised that I had lost 20# since the last visit. It would have been more except the last visit was in shorts and tee shirt and yesterday was in jeans and sweat shirt over a tee.
Looks like it will be an indoor day today. Wind isn't going to die down until around sunset tomorrow. I don't need to venture out for wood until Friday, when it will get back above the freezing point.

I spent a short time out in the train shed yesterday, temperature out there even with the heaters running full out, was a livable 62°. It generally stays about 30° higher than the outdoor temperature, so I most likely won't be out there today. Not much that I can do when the fingertips are cold. While there I just ran a few trains and sorted through a Ziplock of detail parts that I found Monday. Some are painted, but most are not.
No photos today as I slept in late and I don't have time for the archives search. But, they will return.

My smoke alarms and CO detectors are not hard wired. I can also reach every one without a ladder. The only time that I remember the smoke detector going off is when we cook bacon, which isn't too often.

Hughie - The sickest jokes that I have heard in my lifetime, came from one of the Dominican priests who taught us in the Catholic high school in Dallas. That was more than 20 years before the Yoko Ono one started.
Ken - Good news about the heater.

Today is the 80th anniversary of Iwo Jima Day. Musician Smokey Robinson is 85 today.

Everyone have a wonderful Wednesday and stay warm.

The builder of my house installed the hard wired detectors throughout the house. After about 5 years, they began chirping but there's no battery in any of them. I had one guy come out to check it but he couldn't figure out why. I decided to take em all out and just install the battery operated versions as they fit the sockets in the ceilings. Just change batteries once a year.

Talk about inflation!

Two items of post delivered today, one was the March edition of Railroad Model Craftsman which contains a review of a new batch of Walthers Proto GP7's, yours for $219 US!!

Other item, a second hand never been used Proto 2000 GP9, basically exactly the same model, translated into US currency, cost me $35 including delivery!

Might need the gears replacing mind...

Now you know why I mainly specialise in working with older releases of some models...
