Afternoon all, still cloudy and 30°. We were getting freezing mist a while ago the the weather prognosticators never mentioned.
Good evening. It's mostly clear and 80.
I've been having problems with my teeth for many years. I went to a dentist today after a recent bout. This dentist went pretty in-depth as far as what was going on, and what do do going forward. Basically, my teeth are all completely worn out. We both speculated this may be a family trait, as both parents and my brother had lost all their teeth well before they reached my age. That didn't really change his prognosis, though, which was, there was nothing he could do. The only three options he could provide were to just let things fall apart (not recommended, for obvious reasons), have all teeth removed and get full dentures. He said this was an option, though because of all the issues people have with dentures, he wouldn't recommend it), or remove all teeth and get full implants (which he recommended). The figure he casually dropped about that option nearly gave me a coronary. It's more than my home cost new, and double what my new expensive car just cost.
It seems I have some difficult decisions to make. I know my parents had problems with their dentures, and implants weren't a thing when they (and my brother) had to make this decision. I wonder how much of the fifty thousand dollars the dentist gets as a kickback for the referral... I'd be naive to think he had no incentive.
That's why I still haven't replaced a back tooth. I was quoted $6500 for one 10 years ago.

Based on my wife’s experience, implants have a finite lifespan, so in my opinion, if you think you can handle dentures, do it now, because if you go with implants, in another 10 years or so, you’ll need dentures or new implants anyway. The docs doing the implants won’t tell you this, for some crazy reason.

Gomez I have 8 implants. The top 4 have clip on dentures. Once they clip on, they do not move there like regular teeth, but you have to remove them at night. The bottom implants have permanent teeth glued on they don't come out. The total price was $32,000.00. If I went for the permanent teeth on the top, it would have cost $60.000.00 That would have used up over half of my annuity I received from Local 235 when I retired.

I did not know that EMDs are made in Muncie Indiana, home of Ball State University, my alma matter. All we ever heard about was The Ball Corp (Jars like Mason jars) and David Letterman.

Now I know a little more about my college town 1.5 miles down the road.

I was in the same situation starting about ten years ago. I had several conversations with Sherrel regarding dentures and he pointed out that he had always had issues with them. I bit the bullet and went with 8 implants and 10 crowns, which set me back $45K, of which my company provided insurance paid $4500, at @1500/year. I didn't have to do it all at once. I am now looking at 2 more implants (4 teeth total) in the bottom front. I haven't received the estimate yet. The implants are the way to go in my opinion.

Not for nothing...I'm beginning to believe most medical advice one gets from a practitioner, is really a sales pitch.

Having said that, I have partial dentures, top and bottom. I have some original teeth remaining and some with crowns and bridges. I've had the dentures for at least 23 years for the lower, and about 19 for the upper. I don't use adhesive, and have only had problems with the bottoms over the last two years when I lost a lot of weight. I'm going to have to remember to use denture cement with the lower ones, and or get a new lower plate once the broken lower tooth is removed. Much depends on the initial sizing and follow up care as the gums shrink...Shop around.... Implants are nice but very expensive.....and there is no guarantee that they will fit well once everything settles. Go see a second dentist and get another opinion, before you make a commitment to do anything.

George: It is often a matter of affordability FWIW.

While I have dental insurance, the best tier available through my work, it's essentially a policy that is offered so the company can advertise "dental and vision insurance" in order to be competitive with other US businesses. No mater what, I will be paying 100% out of pocket for whatever gets done. I can more easily afford $2k for dentures than I can $30-$50k for implants. The joys of working for probably 85% of corporate america.

Boris the $102,000.00 annuity money I received form the union when I retired was an extra thing they had going from their retirement plan. I thought I'll just use some of this money to get my teeth fixed. I was putting money into this plan for 28 years after I left the railroad. The clip-ons work extremely well. They fit well they don't move when you bite into an apple. You remove them by tugging on them. I only needed 6 teeth on the bottom, so the dentist glued the teeth on to the implants. They do not come out. You can see how it works by the below photo.

I started to spray paint all my station and industry parking lots with a can textured spray paint yesterday and it clogged the spray head within 2 seconds. I get the compressor going blow out the clog and again within 2 seconds it clogs again. I guess the particles in the textured paint can are causing the clog. Maybe shake the can harder to get the particles of the bottom of the can? I'll give it another try today.
