Good Morning All. Cloudy and 46° out there this morning. Low 60's later today and more of this same weather for the next ten days. At least that's what the weather geeks are posting. Tonight will be chilly though, in the mid-30's.
The Weather Underground station around the corner (about a mile as the crow flies), that I normally correlate my observations with, has apparently gone off-line since Saturday. There's another about 1/8 mile further away that I will use now.
While on the subject of disappearing folks, I am concerned about my eccentric next door (almost) neighbor. He's the man who uses a weedeater along 1000' of barbed wire fence along the road easement. His Longhorns aren't too good at that part; horns get tangled in the wire! About 5 weeks ago, I saw an ambulance departing his property about 8:30 one night. Since then, I haven't seen any activity down there, either day or night. I can see a good swath of his "country estate" when standing on my back porch (winter only when the trees have no leaves), across the wheat field between us. Then early last week, their garbage dumpster disappeared from the side of the road. He and his wife have obviously left, voluntarily or not. They, (mostly him) had spent close to $1,000,000 on the property, grading and making a 1/2 mile driveway, putting in a 1 1/2 acre lake with a fountain, putting in a very expensive remotely operated pillared gateway, along with two houses, a detached garage/barn, cameras everywhere and fencing around and across all 100 acres. We only talked occasionally when I would see him while I was out walking. He was a seemingly nice fellow. His improvements to former pasture land did drive up our (and other neighbors) property evaluation way up though. Thankfully my taxes were frozen with the senior exemption before he started making the improvements six years ago. Hmmmh! Where did they go???
Today will be another sloppy day outside, but maybe the 12 mph wind will help evaporate some of the standing pools of water. There is no dry ground although there are a few places on higher ground that are at least solid enough to stand on. But there isn't anything for me to do there so I am continuing to work off the extensive "honey dew" list inside.
I was unable to make it out to the train shed yesterday, as I had to socialize for a change. What was intended as a Pro Bowl watching party did not happen because the TV went off by popular demand.
Let's follow a freight through parts of the upper level today.
Guy - Glad to see you stop back in. Great photos yesterday.
Curt - Did I miss where you posted the information regarding this T&B Wiley kit?
Karl - Even the LFL has changed drastically over the years. The uniforms definitely cover more body.
Patrick -
Those are coupler cut levers, one for front and rear, and the square hole thing goes in the front pilot around the coupler.
This might help. It's even a GN.
Tom O - At least the winning division in the baseball All Star game gets rewarded with being the home division in the World Series.
Now I have to check Miniprints.ca to see how much his elk cost as we do have Elk in Wisconsin and the CN!
He certainly has them. I passed on them because the antlers looked way too fragile. While there are no elk in my part of Texas, there are quite a few in NW Texas over by New Mexico.
Today is National Shower with a Friend Day. Read into that whatever you want!
Everyone have a great day. Now that it is light, I just looked over and noted that the overnight wind did indeed evaporate much of the standing water between the house and train shed.
