Running out of time! I have concluded that when my time runs out, I won’t notice it. I just don’t want to linger and be a burden…

Mortal, never felt my age or mortality until my first cancer surgery. After my second surgery I am just happy for each day.

Retirement in California. The weather for the most part is great and that is a huge selling point but yeah those taxes are tough.
Value every day you have.

Our area here has train clubs but around Madison are mainly modular. Clubs with permanent layouts like Alan’s (espeefan) is about 80 miles and just too far a drive to be worthwhile for me to go once or twice a week.
Tom- Most of the clubs up here(including Hub City's) are modular, as we bring them to shows in Marshfield, Stevens Point, Waupaca, LaCrosse and the Iola classic car show.

Good evening. 39°, and raining. The rain is supposed to end by 0100, after which it will clear up and go up into the 50s.

Tomorrow, is my first Post-op Doctor's appointment. Afterwards we need to stop a BJ's or Costco for some vittles and supplies.

Curt: Orlando is as good as anywhere else... Not sure that I want to go that far away from the kids. I'm looking midway between Watertown, NY and Jacksonville, NC... BTW, is your latest project a camp car, or a rider car for the wreck train? I can vividly remember seeing similar cars, painted grey or Yellow, stored on nearby sidings, in Camp train service.

Chet: Phones are a royal pain. My phone has seen better days. looking for the best deal. I prefer to own mine outright. Love that car. Rocket 88, right?

NYC 2391 - GP35 + Cabin at Essington 02-12-2023.jpg

Road crew tacking cabin on rear end prior to running around train, 2391 is an ex NYC GP35 working in PRR territory...also ex NYC cabin. 02/12/2023.

Evening all. Well KC pulled it out. Since I didn't care who won, it was a good game to watch.
The weather has been pretty nice. Mid 60's and sunny in the daytime and upper 40's at night.

Christian - Hide the rulers and measuring tapes and go 4 x 8. Then beg forgiveness.
Willie - I really like that first photo. Wish Arlene a Happy Birthday.
Chet - Still envy the model car collection. Wish there were a better selection in N scale. Hudson Hornet

Places to move to, I always thought the area around where Tenn., Va., and NC come together would be pretty nice. Should see 4 seasons but not the extremes of winter or summer.

Just ran a couple of trains, just watching.

STAY SAFE

Bully for the Chiefs! Looked a might doubtful there for a bit.
I thought that Mahomes might be done for when he took that hit just ahead of the half.
I wish they would make me KING! I would do away with wnning a game by a field goal?
AND the stupid overtime rules they have now.
AND the stupid halftime shows - what a waste of time and money (imho} {ymmv}!

JOE - I got to looking at the map after your last post. (In my life I have spent many, many, many hours looking at maps - still enjoy it)
About half way would be in the vicinity of Frederick, MD I believe.
I don't see much difference in climate from where you are?

A couple years ago we had friends who moved from here to near Williamsburg, VA.
They absolutely love it there! Just a thought.
I am rambling again?

Andy Reid gets my vote for MVP! He made effective use of the long half time to find a way to outwit the Philly defense! Old guys know some stuff!

I'm still trying to figure out why Philly did not run more often. They dominated the line of scrimmage on offense almost every time they did run. Young guy outwitted himself?

Field goals - that's why they call it football.

Sherrel: Interesting that you would mention those locations. Years ago, I was still with Amtrak, and I considered relocating to Frederick, because it was equidistant from DC, Baltimore, and Harrisburg, PA, all of which were Amtrak Crew Bases, where I had a lot of seniority. Williamsburg, (Tidewater, VA), was another consideration, more for retirement purposes, At the time, first son was considering an instructors position at Ft. Eustis, and second son was based at Pendelton. If the bottom hadn't fallen out of the Real Estate market, (in Jersey), in 2008 - 2009 when I retired, It might have happened.

Joe, North Carolina seems to be the "most affordable" area, as far as cost of housing and taxes. The health care isn't bad, either. The further North from there you go, the higher everything gets.
Terry: I agree that NC is most affordable. Second Son likes it there. (Jacksonville area), I think they call it the Crystal Coast. I looked at property years ago, and it's still a good possibility. I would prefer NC weather, to Northern NY any day. Problem is it makes visiting the other son/family a 20 hour drive, or even longer train ride. (Flying is damned inconvenient between end points also).

Boris, I say come back to the "land of pleasant living", but I'm biased. On the other hand, I don't wish having to move on anyone!
Louis: If I do...it would be somewhere on the Delmarva Peninsula, rather than the Metropolitan Baltimore or DC areas. Then again, It may never happen, as you mentioned, moving is a royal pain in the arse.

I don't know how many Eagles games I have sat through, over the years, dating back before Dick Vermeil's coaching era, where they played well and blew the game in the last five minutes or less, over a holding call, real or imagined. It's a Philly thing, I guess, similar to the Cowboys "Miracle Finishes". (FWIW, when Andy Reid was in Philly, the same curse victimized him too).

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and 40° in this part of the world. Upper 60's to low 70's for a few days with a high wind advisory beginning around midnight tonight, but it will be from the southwest. That generally means a duststorm coming from northwestern Mexico. Sustained winds of at least 25 to 30 mph are expected, with gusts of 40 to 50 mph. There goes the lawn furniture again! And it's all metal! Maybe light rain tomorrow morning when this wind collides with the moist Gulf breezes from yesterday and today, although the humidity right now is abnormally low for this time of day. The wind noise is highly amplified in my hearing aids.

My wife thanks all of you for the well wishes on her birthday yesterday, although she has no clue who any of you are except Sherrel.

I also wish to thank everyone who commented on or reacted to the general layout views yesterday.

I saw a few minutes of the football game last night when I went into the living room to start the overnight fire in the heater. I haven't really kept up with or watched the NFL for over 20 years now, but I always disliked Philadelphia since the 60's when the fans made snowballs with transistor radio batteries embedded in them and threw them at Tom Landry. So I am happy that they lost.
We ate supper at halftime, so I didn't get a report from my wife. The last good one that I actually saw was Z Z Top played in 1997 or so.

I never had a traditional mortgage loan, but bought my place in1981 when rates were outrageous, near 18%. I got my land for 10% owner financing which was paid for by 1991, and the house was builder financed also for 10% and paid for by 1995. By the time refinancing rates hit single digits again, I was almost done paying for the house. Land was already mine. However I have not had a mortgage payment in 28 years!:) I have not considered moving as it would be an awful lot of trouble. Train shed is too large to move! But I am happy with where I am at, even if it is far from everything.

The usual Sunday short day out in the train shed yesterday. While on temporary hiatus fro the Ethanol refinery, I tackled a small job on my extended project list. I added shingles to a small laser-cut wood structure.

Then I started painting the trim.

Second coat today.

Sherrel - "Rambling"? Never heard of that concept!;)
Chet - I have always contended that I could have done better with the $$$ that I put into Social Security over the years. My retirement fund is proof positive of that. I am soon going to be required to take RMD's which will more than double my income and put me into a higher tax bracket! I may have to buy your '59 Chevy.
Terry -
Good evening. It's mostly cloudy and 60.
I've come to a sad realization that, even making $30/hour, I still can't afford a decent 2 bedroom apartment.
People are renting tool sheds for $1300/month.
It's a shame. I certainly understand your reasons for starting over, but that sure makes the rent back in Winston-Salem look good.

Everybody have a great day
