Troy- The best thing that I know of to lose weight is exercise and portion control.
Well, I've tried those every day of my adult life.

My control works real well getting the fork to my mouth.

:p

I'm not knocking them, but I need something beyond. You'll never find me "jocking it up." No weights, though I do have a couple of lighter kettlebells, and a youtube channel with a nice young woman who is happy to show me how to move with them.... Seriously I'm anti-jock following the bullying I had in HS. For me, walking is about all you get other than a morning stretch routine.

The pounds came back in the three years since moving out of California. What changed?

The lockdown. A bunch of midwest carb-loaded comfort food. And winter's ability to keep me inside instead of making two 1.5 mile loops walking each day. Weather in Los Angeles was good most of the year. Only wildfire season kept me from walking 3+ miles a day. I was at my lowest weight in two decades out there.

Add into the winter lack of exercise my plantar fasciitis for the last 6 months, followed by holiday cooking, sweets for the holidays, and finally, those little extortionist with their boxes of girl scout cookies... It's no wonder I'm up at the top of my weight again.

The plan this month is to kick up the walking as long as the weather cooperates. We'll see about the kettlebells. Even with the cute girl leading, that's way toooooo much like gym class.

I'm out of cookies. Trying to limit candy (dark chocolates only).

And, some of Thomas Delauer's wisdom. Got his book on intermittent fasting, and follow him on YouTubez. What I like is how he goes to the medical studies to back up his advice and changes the advice as new info comes out.

Swal - have you tried plugging your phone into your computer using the USB charging cable? The computer should recognize your phone.

Troy - nearly three million hens have been lost to the avian flu.

Hughie, sweet purchase! I'm jealous, I want a Microsoft surface!

Sorry if my comments are outdated, I'm outdated!

I hope all is well, God Bless Us Everyone.

Social Security is an entitlement.

Definition of Entitlement - the fact of having a right to something.

People who paid in have a right (are entitled) to their benefits.

Others who did not pay are not entitled to the benefits.

What kind of country are we if we cheat our retired workers? It's bad enough that we make them buy health and prescription insurance.
I know from helping my mother they make that too complicated.

Red Flag: buying anything that is over complicated.

Who came up with the "donut hole"? I'm willing to bet he is now on a health care company payroll!

For the record, I'm not retired. I'm not entitled to anything, and I never will be!

New CEO
If you've ever worked for a boss who reacts before getting the facts and thinking things through, you will love this!

Arcelor-Mittal Steel, feeling it was time for a shakeup, hired a new CEO. The new boss was determined to rid the company of all slackers.

On a tour of the facilities, the CEO noticed a guy leaning against a wall. The room was full of workers and he wanted to let them know that he meant business. He asked the guy, "How much money do you make a week?"

A little surprised, the young man looked at him and said, "I make $400 a week. Why?"

The CEO said, "Wait right here." He walked back to his office, came back in two minutes, and handed the guy $1,600 in cash and said, "Here's four weeks' pay. Now GET OUT and don't come back."

Feeling pretty good about himself the CEO looked around the room and asked, "Does anyone want to tell me what that goof-ball did here?"

From across the room a voice said, "He's the Pizza delivery guy from Domino's."

Good Morning All. Still partly cloudy and 31°, but it's about to rapidly clear up and get warmer. Typical late winter weather for us coming up; warm days, cold days, wet days, windy days, sometimes even snow. We'll be in the 70's this coming week, and then we'll be in the 40's.

Nothing special yesterday, the usual household chores. Same old stuff today as well. Tomorrow is my wife's birthday, the first time ever that it fell on Super Bowl Sunday. Or maybe it's opposite since she has been around longer than the Super Bowl! She's off the Keto diet until Monday

Out in the train shed, progress continues on the Ethanol refinery, albeit just a series of small things. I finished re-working the track and nailed it all down. Then I ballasted about 2' worth.

That steel block is holding feeders that I chose not to relocate, and glued to the surface to be covered by landscape soon.
Then I added some support beams to the grain unloading shed, as well as six roof exhausts.

The roof had already begun to sag but I had anticipated this.
After all of that, I measured and added inlet and outlet piping to the two Ethanol storage tanks

I'm going to take a bit of a break today while I ponder some more piping in other places, although I may do some ground cover. Other tasks that I can now do are to paint the green horizon on the backdrop and cover that gap caused by a poor cut on the backdrop over on the left of the unloading shed.

Troy - For me, portion control has always been the best method for shedding pounds. Exercise or fancy diets don't work, never have. As you pointed out, water pills are just a temporary fix. Exercise for me just keeps the functioning parts in good order.
Curt - Skunk got loose! What an unfortunate turn of events. I've never had one in the house, but I have seen firsthand their destructive ways in the yard. They like to rummage through the compost pile as well.
I always thought that dropping grabs was part of the install process!😲
Sherrel - Your post on "the new CEO" is quite accurate in many respects. I've seen it all.

Everybody have a great Saturday. I will since we're already seeing sunshine again.

I am not a fan of diets. Too temporary and short lived. I am starting month 14 of counting carbs. That was not a diet thing it’s a life style change. It has worked for me. I walk 2 miles a day on the dreaded treadmill or in the woods weather depending. I eat 3 times a day and take 2 snack times. I am a type 2 diabetic and honestly the carb counting isn’t that hard. I do log my food intake. I have found as I counted and learned the higher and lower carbs in the foods I trended towards the lower carb foods. Any white Bread has been reduced to almost nothing. I do eat a piece of dark chocolate maybe 2-3 times a week. Pizza is eaten but the intake is a lot less at a sitting. I no longer eat the 10” pizza by myself. 1/2 and save the other 1/2. I tried the substitute crusts like cauliflower and chickpeas and I will stick to the real crusts, just limiting the intake. I learned you can enjoy pizza without needing to eat almost the whole thing…

Good morning folks shredding weight or dreaming of. So. Central Wisconsin like yesterday is very bright and severely clear skies. Today though the ice on the driveway that the ice melt didn’t work on should be gone by time we hit mid 40’s at 3pm. The driveway is shaded by the house and at 31f degrees yesterday the cheap ice melt didn’t work. It was a great deal but now I know why.

The wife already is antsy today but not enough for that… yet! Anyway, this maybe a road trip day. Since the stables were sold on 2/1/2023 this has become a more common occurrence and we did talk about it yesterday. She doesn’t have enough to hold her interests. On Maui she has her horses, can relax by the pool and she has been designing and directing the install of the landscaping and installing the veggie gardens on the brother’s property. Here, the winter weather keeps us indoors. Plus with the grandkids older at 9 and 11 and the parents both working at home they don’t “need” us a much.

The cold weather is starting to get to me after 70 years of living in this northern climate. I believe I am willing to go out the the Islands and try full time if it will make Terry happy. Yesterday‘s review with the architect on the new house and Terry’s boredom has had me concerned enough to re-think my position about staying full time on Maui. If my trains are with me, between them, the golfing, the horses and constant stream of visiting “friends” I can handle it. If the daughter needs us we can always jump on a plane. This is not a last minute change of position for me. I have been thinking and discussing with my 2 friends this for months.

The idea of staying in Austin near the son and shuffling around the country depending on the seasons is not on the table. California near my sister is a definite “never gonna happen” and the same for Arizona.

Off to adventures of weathering.

enjoy the day

Hello Happy Members !
Because I'm a bit tired of small layouts, I carefully disassembled the last one and packed all the parts in boxes. I plan to build a big layout but, first thing first, I need to get a big green light from SWMBO. Then I must find some room in our little house (remember I live in France). Life goes on...:D

Think your heading for a shelf style layout, but even that will be a challenge, unless it's a switching layout.

I certainly understand the cold weather thing. I hate it and always have. Hawaii - I know that you've been there before. While the heat isn't really that bad, the humidity usually is high. And it rains quite often, but no snow to shovel. I am told that all things used in every day life are more expensive due to having to be shipped in either by air or by ship.
Austin - It does get warm here in Texas. High humidity in the coastal areas. Austin is a liberal oasis in a conservative state.
