Yes, I'm going to have to agree with Willie. While I did learn to drive in NY winters, we don't see very much snow in this part of TX. Freezes however do come often enough that you need to be prepared for ice. In my area it's ice on bridges and overpasses that catches those not paying attention.been busy, too many pages to catch up on
I came across this , this morning. somewhat humourous - dont take it personally Hobo & Willie

eeek, photo? I need a laugh…..grinsAnd the Award for Dumbass of the day goes to MEEeeeeeeeeeeeee
Repainted the Signal box I'm building after the paint started to come away from too much handling, did that last night.
Tonight I applied a coat of matt clear coat, roughly 60/40 mix, left it a few hours and went back to apply a second coat a little while ago, made another mix and applied it to the signal box, suddenly realised it seemed far to wet to be right, I knew I had the mix right, suddenly realised I'd done the correct mix, except dumbass here used 60% clear coat
and 40% airbrush cleaner, yikes!!!![]()
Icy conditions, or general stupidity?Been an interesting morning, two cars decided to have arguments with the rear end of two big rigs, someone else decided to visit a Bus stop shelter, with their car, and a BMW driver decided to visit a farmers field via a 4' ditch and a well built dry stone wall. I just can't wait for tonight, when we have to go back.
…oh deer…. They need to ‘rein’ in ’moose’ be that time of year…stop groaning……
One rear end was fog, and speeding, second one was on the phone, Bus shelter was turning left 30' before the actual junction, dunno about that BMWIcy conditions, or general stupidity?
If we can all check our outrage and think a moment, some interesting possibilities present themselves. First, this tells us that Chinese spy satellites must be pretty crappy. They deployed a clunky system that is vulnerable and easily discovered. They aren't stupid. If they had a better way to gather information, they'd have used it. Instead, they took the risk anyway, just like we did back in the days of Francis Gary Powers and his cohorts. Simple measures can be used to defeat it. Smoke over the target area, covering assets, moving aircraft off airfields, etc. The payload was the size of three large buses, so I get not wanting to drop it over land. Dropping it over water will leave the payload in bigger pieces as well. Spooks are spooks, no matter who is in charge. It may have been decided to let it go, observe, collect our own intelligence on its behavior and how it communicates. No doubt everything will be classified for a number of years, but I'll bet when the dust settles, we'll find out we learned more about their stuff than they did about ours. Sometimes the best thing to do with a spy is let it go and watch what it does. You learn more. There's plenty of examples of this in history. That's why they call intelligence/counterintelligence "The Great Game".Perhaps the were studying the tech on the balloons (plural...) this isn't the first one. Looks like it was at least thefourthfifth in the last 6 years... And, it passed through Canadian airspace between the Aleutians and Montana.
Interesting but that won’t happen.Personally, I think the U.S. should go down and nab that other balloon that's down in Central or South America. No country in the Western Hemisphere is going to object to that.
I'd bet my next paycheck that the instruments on that balloon could be used for meteorological data gathering. And on the surface, it probably looks and acts like that's all it's doing. But under the covers, there is a more sinister intent that is not readily apparent.
Nope, didn't think to take one, but this morning the paint was still on there, although it was still distinctly damp to the touch.Balloon

Willie the building inspector needs to pay a visit to that place. The building inspector here worries about how the wall installation is installed. That place would never pass. I'm surprised you haven't notified him.Good Morning All. Mist/drizzle and 43° here. During the last 24 hours, 0.4" has gathered in the rain gauge. Weather geeks are still claiming that heavy thunderstorms are coming, but I just don't see it yet on the radar. The National Weather Service is continuing their 2022 trend of missing with their forecasts much of the time. They did get the ice storm right last week, just not the severity of it. It's not supposed to get much warmer until tomorrow morning when the clouds break and the sun returns; but only for one day.
Anyone else noticed how much busier the whole forum has been lately? I have been having a tough time keeping up with all of the new threads and postings. I find myself being 3 or 4 days late in responding or viewing some threads like the RPO or the weathering thread.
Ran the Roomba vacuum cleaner around the house yesterday, in preparation for my wife to come home today. Mostly it wasn't needed except by the back door where I tracked debris in that stuck to my wet shoes.
Out in the train shed yesterday, I took up some track at the south end of the Ethanol refinery and started to redo some of it. The way it was originally laid just wasn't right for what it is intended to do now. There was an S-curve that made it hard to navigate, and there really wasn't enough room for the propane tanks where intended. So I removed a turnout and re-aligned the track. Not yet finished and no in-progress pictures. I still need to cut and install a ~5" piece of track to complete.
I don't really have anything new to post here, so I will re-post some pictures of a small Downtown Deco Hydrocal liquor store called Cooter's Liquor.

Since I got up earlier, we've had thunder and a little rain, not much but I don't wish to walk out and check the gauge again. The Weather Underground station down the road says 0.9" since midnight. Radar shows continued rain, but much lighter for a couple more hours. Meanwhile I had to start a fire in the wood-burning heater a little while ago.
Everybody have a great day.
