Good morning guys,

-24 on the way in this morning, now up to -10. I think our last day of very cold weather, then we are going to moderate more around 30. We have had a long cold spell here, at least a month, I think.

Greg - I got a hamburger combo at Hardees for 5.69, included tax. There was a large burger, fries, and a medium Coke. I couldn't believe it when she computed my price, I must have gotten some kind of discount. That was 2 weeks ago.

Steve - the small chest of drawers looks very useful for a neat freak like me

Willie - the grain elevator looks great, don't remember seeing it before

I found an old memory stick, has lots of photos from my 2016 layout. Fun to look at, much of what is on it has been liquidated. We moved no less than 6 times since then, before settling into our new house last spring.

I found this project, the water tank looks good I always feel the details are lost when it gets on the layout:

using the plans as a template is brilliant (above)

Took a lot of steps to get to here. The nylon string holding the slats together probably one of the hardest parts (above)

I used paper towels rather than the sandpaper they included for the tarpaper (below)

I always keep a bunch of the spray painted tarpaper on hand

glueing the spout on was not easy. I used JB weld to reinforce it as the glue would not hold (above)

done!

Good Afternoon Everyone out there in Model Railroad Land. Sunny and a bit cold after five inches of snow last night. The snow was light and had a low moisture content. The late February sun and with an asphalt driveway, the snow is all but gone after snow blowing the driveway.

Like many I'm watching the events in the Ukraine with great interest. I was surprised by the up tick in the stock Markets so far today. I live on Social Security and my investments, so any changes in my portfolio are done with a good deal of research. While concerned about the markets, I'm totally diversified and should be able to weather any market downward movements. History has shown us that if markets go down, then they go back up.

Any way, back to model railroading and other subjects

the small chest of drawers looks very useful for a neat freak like me

Dave: I have a friend who likely can beat you at being a neat freak. Besides having a dust and web free basement, he polished all is basement copper water pipes and coated them with a clear lacquer to prevent the pipes from tarnishing.

My goal for this summer is to organize my main shed at the cabin. The tools should be organized so they can be found without trouble. Nails and screws should be kept in separate containers. Then once organized, keep that way!!!

Funny, one spring weekend at the cabin I forgot at home a gallon of Behr stain and it was a 88 mile round trip to the nearest Behr deal to get a gallon of the Behr stain to keep on schedule with my projects.

My model supplies need to be better organized. I have a storage cabinet with drawers like a chest of drawers made of durable plastic is on rollers, the things I keep in the cabin are not the best items for this type of storage. While the most used items like solder, soldering tools, couplers, wheel-sets and other things are at hand in or on the work-bench, they could be organized in a better method. I keep my DCC in one location but that too could be rearranged better.

I have a large assortment of various pieces of track, turnouts, rail joiners and ties that could be grouped together in one place.

That's all for now....................

Greg

Ground beef, fresh garlic, paprika... stale bread soaked in milk... I'm not certain of the rest, but I'll find out for you. My little Angel is sleeping at this moment.
Salt, black pepper and oregano. This is one of those dishes my wife does not use measurements. It depends on the strength of the flavor for each ingredient.

The only time I have seen her measure ingredients is when she makes cakes, cookies and other pastries.

Afternoon All,

Started out in the train room. Same issue. I talked to Jon and we're going to meet tomorrow and he's loaning me his DCS100 (same as mine but 5 amp instead of 8 amp). I'll hook it up tomorrow to see if it makes any difference (to see if the issue is my command station). In other train news I started prepping the area for the icehouse.

After that the wife asked if I would go with her to the local shopping outlet x 2 o_O. She only went into 1 store in each outlet. I even participated in decision making (supporting her decisions). I told her to get whatever she wanted because I spend way too much money on train stuff. She was happy and thanked me afterwards.

Thank you for the photo likes yesterday.

Gary- The liberty ship is going to be so cool. Do you paint it with a special paint so that it binds with the resin?

Jaz- Great paintings. You have real talent.

Sherrel- Nice photo. The ship in the background draws my eyes to it.

Willie- Nice scenes. I really like the grain tower.

Steve- Nice job on bracing the foam. I have 2 drawer sets like that (darker and no wheels) that came home from Mom & Dad's house. I plan on using them for car storage.

Dave- Very nice job on the water tank. I built a similar one but hosed up the roof.

Greg- That meme is so true!

Terry- A DCC question. I have 6 UP-5's and 1 UR92. All of them are powered by Digitrax power supplies. Could that be causing the throttle to lose synch?

I hope everyone has a good night.

Have to agree with you, when Russia marched into Crimea, the west did nothing, Georgia the same, nothing, now Ukraine, and let's face it we're going to do nothing again. Putin wont stop till he hits the NATO countries. He's basically rebuilding the former USSR to it's former "Glory" Latvia, Estonia and a few others are on his "hit" list too.

There is no need to close down the SWIFT system at all, it's just a secure messaging system, but Russia's partner banks who receive and send money (nearly of it is in US $'s) need to have their Russian account's frozen., but it still wont stop him, the west has proved by it's previous inaction, it's just a big dog with lots of bark and no bite.
My heart is heavy, but my conscience is clear, I voted for John McCain.

Willie, years ago I worked with a guy from Texas. He said the same thing, no beans in chilli. So I tried it, not for me, I missed the black beans.

I love beans, now you have me wanting to make hotdogs in baked beans cooked in the oven.

I make barbecue that is somewhat like Texas chilli, all meat, but I like that on fresh kasier rolls.

Too late for beans now. I already had a big cold cut sandwich on a fresh sub roll. I made the entire 12" roll, but I could only eat half.

My wife feels guilty when I eat sandwiches for dinner. Someday she will realize I love sandwiches!

Good afternoon all! It is a raw, cold day here in Houston. I've been in and out most of the day, never saw the sun.
No beans for me least not in my chili.
Started work on the AC Brown kit this afternoon. It's going to awhile to complete this one. lots of little parts and details so it will be slow going.

Doesn't call for stiffeners but I added some. It sits on a solid floor/base, so I need to decide if I'm going to light it or not and drill a hole if I do.

STAY SAFE

My model supplies need to be better organized.
I spent several hours searching for code 70 rail joiners, last night. It's no wonder I cannot get anything done on a timely basis.

Louis, Willie et all: I love black beans...they don't like me...

Dave: I enjoyed the photo essay about the water tower.

Hughie: The A.C.Brown build looks good.

Today was quite a day on Wall Street. Hope the "fear based" selling is over, and it wasn't just covering shorts. No bargain hunting today.

A DCC question. I have 6 UP-5's and 1 UR92. All of them are powered by Digitrax power supplies. Could that be causing the throttle to lose synch?
Jumping ahead to help answer your question....I have a Digitrax DCC system with a DB150, a 5 amp power supply and have run two UT-2, UT-4, one DT-300 and one DT- 402 throttle and never experienced any troubles.

Sorry Terry for stepping on your reply!!! 🤔

I was wondering anyone here know about this. 1040-SR My amount on line 6a Social Security benefits TAXABLE AMOUNT is about $4,000 less than last year with the same amount on line 6a Social Security benefits. This is the taxable amount mainly on my wife's Social Security Benefits. Is there some kind of new tax break on these earning this year? Someone here may know of this.

I want to upload a video file, which is in AVI format, what format do I need to convert it to, to be able to upload it to the forum ?????
OH! and how do I do that conversion, Thanks.
Best way to do that is convert it to a WMV file then upload it to YouTube then post the link. I don't think the forum actually stores video.
I don't know what kind of equipment or recording device you're using so I can't tell ya how to convert it. I think you can find a video converter service online, usually free but with adds.

That usually means that you had less "other income" such as annuities, investment income, retirement plan distributions, etc. Therefore less of the Social Security income is taxable. So says my wife the Blockhead. That is a term I affectionately use to refer to her and her fellow H&R Block tax preparers. Be sure that you have fully reported that income.
