Good Morning!

It's only -16F outside, but, it feels colder than that. All around, it's just going to be a crappy day to go outside and play for this holiday Monday.
There are a number of outdoor events in the works for this Family Day , but, I'll leave that to the younger folks and I'll just stay inside my warm house.

D&J - Thankyou for the table leg-levelling suggestions. Good suggestions, although too late for what I'm doing since I've already spent the money on sliders. I don't want to spend any more money on it, and my idea seems to be working out.

GaryR - Love the flat-top with the Banshee's and Tracker on deck. It seems like everyone from the Maritimes is into boats. What scale would that model carrier be?

Here's a marked photograph of what I'm working on.

I happen to be a mumbo-jumbo builder, never working off of real plans; everything just coming out of my head. I'm always jumping around, doing this, then doing that. It all seems to work out in the end and look decent.
That styrafoam table will have another layer of foam put on it, so that the McLeod River can be cut into it, with a bridge crossing over. The tables legs are to be adjusted and sliders installed.
Another 48" table is under construction, and will be placed to the right of the tracked module.
I still need to put on some drywall, paint, further adjust lighting, etc, etc.... I'm really all over the road. I've been mumbo-jumbo my whole life. Things seem to work out, though.

Well, I want to get to it. So, have a great day, folks!!
It is 1/96 scale, another friend of mine is a professional modeller in my opinion and sold it to my other buddy, he is also building a Liberty class ship the same scale of his carrier.

The ones I had also had handrails so fragile they broke if I blew on them too hard.
Because of this problem with hand rails breaking, I started ordering spare handrails when I purchased a new locomotive. Since I started a inventory of spares, I haven't broken any hand rails.

I have to start labeling the plastic enclosures with the info on which locomotive the handrails belong so I don't have to guess or match the handrails to get the correct one(s).

I do the ordering sooner rather than later since the manufactures' inventories do not last too long.

"Trouble is I'm stocking up on supplies that I'll need or I'm low on when I get back to model railroading full time, not to mention buying a few pieces of rolling stock."

After stocking up on supplies for over two years and Cathy carries the treasures down stairs and put them in a spot not in the train room, it looks like the warehouse for a web hobby dealer. I'm forget what items I've already purchased and those that I need.

Cathy avoids going into the train room if she can at all possible.

You have no idea how true this is twice of the years I had a computer fail,as in the disk and thus all the written info and photographs…..grrrrrr.I have photos on the iCloud now, and I have a lot I mean at least w teach year of diaries on page a view a4 size,I might not have instant access, but I do a transfer from the last year and a conclusion before moving into the next year, and sometimes have a third book, 1. Pension fund if worse comes to worse, gov can’t tax it either.

Due to the high Hispanic Catholic population here in Texas, Good Friday is considered a non-official holiday here. Most all non-retail businesses are closed.

When I lived in Germany, those federal states that were predominantly historically Catholic had (all -- probably not "all" but many) the various Catholic holidays as official days off. Those federal states predominantly Protestant historically didn't. Since Catholics like to celebrate various days that I had never heard of, we had a bunch of extra days off and it was kind of nice to take "Mary Ascension Day" off from work.

Gary, I'm glad to hear you are finally feeling better. You have been sick for a long time. I was beginning to worry about you young man.

Willie , once again you prove you are a good man, kids first, always.

Terry, I'm glad to hear all is well at work.
Seldom do I work on laptops, even when my hands were good. More often than not it's like opening a can of worms. A job well done old man! 😉

Any news about Sherrel?

Somebody mention ships!?

I don't have a ship, but I do have a boat, tugboat that is.

Greg: My wife will not go down to the train room unless she has to. She says it makes her claustrophobic.

Terry: Happy to hear things started off well.

Willie: I am usually good with a nap before dinner. Some days, I can skip it. There are other days that I cannot get enough sleep, even with multiple naps. Not sure what causes that, I suspect it's pain.

Gary: I really like the carrier model I would like to see photos of the Liberty Ship.

Guy:
Nice to see your layout progress.

Louis:
New York Harbor used to be home to a lot of Railroad Tugs, including some from the B&O.

NYC's PBS outlet, had a program that recently featured looking for signs and artifacts that may have a connection with an Underground Railroad Ferry crossing of the Arthur Kill from Jersey to Staten Island. The location on the SI side, has become a graveyard of sorts for abandoned barges, lighters, Tug and Ferry Boats, including what looked like an old coal fired PRRTug resting on the bottom. I recall seeing these rusting and rotting vessels while switching stoldt Terminal in Perth Amboy. (Near the Outerbridge Crossing). Makes one wonder why this marine graveyard is permitted on a Navigable Waterway.

Anyone remember the AHM (Rivarossi) 1930s RPO - Baggage car from back in the day? Here is the Prototype class BM70nb outside the Passenger Car shop at Wilmington, DE. PRR Photo from Hagley Museum collection

Terry loves to show off my layout to visitors. She even had the governor down here after Christmas, he was very polite.

Because she enjoys the layout it is one of the reasons I try to keep the room so neat. It is one of the reasons I have the black skirting all the way around, it is why the ceiling (open floor joists) is now painted black, as of Friday.

My workbench and my paint benches though are my domain and if they get messy and someone doesn’t like it, they don’t have to come back.

I had not handled an air brush in a number of years and I have 2 brand new Badger brushes. Actually all 4 of my brushes are Badger and the one I was using before getting married in 1976 still sprays as good as the 2 new ones. I practiced for almost 2.5 hours. It did not comeback very easy. 2 single action brushes were fine but the 2 new dual action were almost comical. Never had used a dual action before. I had all 4 brushes out and did the same practice exercises for each and after the 1st 2 with the single action I thought this is as easy as I remember. Not true with the dual action. Today, I will be painting and weathering my ridiculously massive Grain Terminal with way too buildings, bins, silos and not enough space. Weathering of the rolling stock has been by hand but the undersides of the 4 gondolas I purchased Saturday will now be airbrushed. I will hold off on using it on the visible sections until I am more familar with the airbrushes.
It's all muscle memory. Just keep practicing, you'll pick up dual action in no time. If you were in one of my classes I could have you using it effectively in an hour. The problem is you have to unlearn some things from years of single action. You have an incentive too, because dual action is much much better for weathering than single action. Practice dots and lines with your dual action first. Remember the closer to the work, the less trigger (less pulling back) and the further away the more you pull back. Also critical: do not pull back before pushing down. :)

Afternoon All,

Started out with errands then worked on the troublesome Heritage Y6B. After digging out the box to my chagrin I discovered that the decoder wasn't a Tsunami but a QSI with a reed switch☹️. OK I'm an idiot in this case. I reset it partially (don't think it completely did) but it has sound and moves. I was able to lower the master volume, but it won't change the address from 03. I'll play with it again tomorrow. After that MOH wanted a chauffeur for several hours and multiple stops.

Steve- It looked like a wine excursion! :) The new track looks good.

Joe- Good looking track plan. Nice Pennsy photo.

Smudge- Stay safe.

Gary- Both will be interesting builds.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Good Afternoon All. A little excitement today in the neighborhood as five unmarked black SUV's pulled past my house and took up some strategic positions up the road around the house next door. Two actually parked on my west property boundary, although none actually parked in front of the target house up there. Five US Marshalls came by to remove my less than desirable neighbor. They took him away without incident.

A little background - Some of you may remember back in 2012, this particular fellow went haywire and took 45 shots with a semiautomatic weapon at the home of another neighbor, which were fired across part of my property. The other neighbor is now a retired police officer and the wacko accused him of spying on him. At that time, there was a two-day armed stand-off with the local sheriff's department. Eventually the wacko was sent to the penitentiary for seven years and was released in May 2020. Since the police officer was still employed at the time, it had became a federal crime. I personally never had a problem with this guy, although he got cross-ways with the neighbor on the other side. That neighbor accused him of stalking his 19 year old daughter and his wife and he had a restraining order served about eight months ago. His security camera caught the wacko trespassing a few weeks ago, and he turned over the footage to the district attorney. He confronted him at the time and told him what he was going to do. In a stupid move, the wacko skipped his next two probation officer meetings for fear of being arrested. That didn't sit well with the authorities both the restraining order violation and the probation violations. They actually waited for the second missed meeting before they came by. I don't know yet how long he will be "out of touch", but most likely for the remainder of his original sentence of ten years. The Marshalls did not talk to me, but did update my police officer neighbor, as a professional courtesy.

Willie - Glad to hear there was no further need to fire off shots, and that nobody was hurt. Especially you and you're family.
You have given me an idea, though. I think I'd better incorporate a wacko into my layout, since they seem to be so common in the first place.

Thank you for the encouragement. Yes, pulling back before pressing down was a bit interesting yesterday. I am back from PT and practice some more. The weathering can wait until I am a bit more comfortable.

Hello all! Going in to work for my first overnight shift in about an hour and a half. Gonna be rough one because I really didn't get as much sleep as I'd hoped to. Should sleep well tomorrow when I get home though. Supposed to pour down rain tonight and tomorrow. Freezing rain, sleet and snow on tap later this week. Can't wait till I start the new job and have so much less distance to travel for work each day.

Trying to figure out what to do about insurance. My current health insurance through the company will end immediately once I complete my last day. That will leave us 11 days without health insurance and I'm not sure what to do about that. Kinda scares me these days to go without even that long.

Hope you all are having a great day!
