Model RR question:

I know that there is in HO scale bridge flex track complete with guardrail. Further, I know that guardrail is useful in prototypes to keep trains from tumbling off the bridge in event of a derail. My question is: Does HO scale bridge guardrail have any practical effect? If I put guardrail flex on my southern extension, will the guardrails prevent the 'plunge of death' off the table?

Further - - I would like some type of railing I can bend around that curve in order to help prevent the aforementioned POD. Any suggestions?

And finally, what would the proper terminology be for such a railing. Can't say guard-rail, though I want to, and should be more than a hand-rail.

Thanks fellow modelers who are experienced!!
A club member did a curved bridge module I think it was Micro Engineering. No guard rail or cry guard (because that would happen when it hits the floor) not that something couldn't be added.

Afternoon All.

Spent several hours finishing up the build. The only thing left to do is ground cover around the side and back. This has taken me about 30 days to build.

Thank you for the likes yesterday for my photos.

IB Ken- Please show lots of progress photos. :)

Terry- I'm worried about Sherrel.

Joe- Thank you.

Steve- I hope you get your Pacific running correctly. You've probably have already done this, but have you gauged the wheels? It sounds like you're wife is doing quite well. Not sure what it's called but I would do it since it's prototypical.

Dave- I like the fence. For some reason the black spots remind me of turnbuckles.

Lee- Thank you.

I hope everyone has a good night.
Curt- You did a really good job on this model!

Jaz- not to get too personal, but how close are you and your hubby to getting healed enough to negotiate your stairs at home?
I know that leg, knee and ankle injuries can take a long time until you can put weight on them.
BTW, how does a demented crab walk?
I have got up there twice but have to reverse down and negotiate a dogleg, I don’t feel safe at the moment, because if the knee went whilst negotiating I might fall.

Then I tripped about 2 weeks ago and since then the back of my damaged knee keeps yelling, so as I move forward I get this spike of pain at the back cause me to shift sideways trying to ease the pain hence the crab walk comment, his ankle spikes pain on uneven surfaces and occasionally when in his chair or bed, we were seperately warned that 1 year is not unusual for an ankle to stabilise, and to be careful of walking over surface like gravel which can shift, and my go said 1 year for the knee is quite common,I am 4 and a half months in,and at present not a happy bunny, and have been awake a couple of hours because when I move the knee is spiking.
Smudge in answer to your question

I had been saying the pain was like a 3,but the other half pointed out if the pain was not for a splint second would it be higher, and yes a lot easily a 7-8 and I cannot describe the dislocation pain when it occurred, but I think I pointed out the pain was so bad that I had not nor had the hospital realised I had broken the ankle until the knee was stabilised and trussed up like a turkey.well in a plaster from ankle to thigh although they had tha off in a wee because they said that it is now believed holding the knee in place inhibits repair, but then told me to keep the ankle above my heart for 6 plus 2 weeks which meant the kneee was kept still anyway.

for someone who was normally tearing around milking, feeding goats, looking after watering feeding collecting fruit off our many trees and shrubs for the birds, and loads of digging and planting and harvesting, plus cleaning, hoovering, cooking (just cooking for half an hour becomes painful) the patella shifts and grinds.

two weeks ago I woke up my knee was painless and I had really good movement and was like yeah, 2 hours later I started the exercises I was supposed to do daily and my patella shifted and I was back in severe pain for a minute. Or two and reduced movement, if if my leg gets that well again I won’t try and exercise it it again! The other half has even said ignore the physio, he thinks the regime they are giving me is half the problem. I have to say the male young physio is not supportive he wants to go through his list with yes no answers, and moans that I am not doing well enough, I think I am ruining his figures. He wants me to continually push the bending and says take pain killers for the pain in order to do so.

ibuprofen is not good to take regular and should be taken with food and can cause stomach ulcers and twice when I took the stuff just before getting in the car I ended up in pain before I got in in - if you read the instructions ibruprofen can cause pain, just as the notes on paracetamol say they can cause headaches. my other half reads the paper work with his prescriptions and often tells the doctor, forget it I am not taking those, or those or those and certainly not the ones that say death is a possible side effect!

They tried me with rheumatoid arthritis tablets 8 years ago when a blood test put me on borderline while testing for something else,I had no symptoms for arthritis then, but 3 tablets later I had hives,up chucking, diarroah of thunderclap proportions and was stuck on the toilet for 5 hours and went 3 days with no food until it stopped - each one just one tablet.

I could moan on for hours!

Bet your glad you asked lol.

Clear plastic might be useful, pre cut holes then screw in

I really like the building, lots of great detail, and nice worn colours, plus a nice excuse for the big boys to park up

Not sure how my name came up in this? 🙃 I think PNKFLOYD was asking

Morning all,

Currently 58° and breezy with winds 30-35 with 40mph gusts. high of 70°. Rain later turning to freezing rain and sleet then snow by morning with snow of 4"-9"+ depending on what side of town you live on. Wind gust of 45 mph expected with the snow, expect drifting.
Wish Mother Nature would take something for the Bi-Polar conditions over the past 2 weeks. This stuff is expected to occur again next week.

Not much going on yet this morning. BBL

Very tired of waking to hyperventilation caused (they say) by A-FIB and gasping for air!
Pulse rate varies by the hour from 50 to 150 - BP all over the place, EKG looks like a pre schoolers drawing.
Almost zero sleep 2-3 hrs a night for over a week resulting in zero energy and no appetite.
Will see whatn the Doctor says this morning. Going to the ER last week was so much fun ... the hallways were lined with beds and the waiting room must have had well over 50 souls there.

Good Morning gang!
27° and clear, supposed to get to 58° today, supposed to be sunny and 65 tomorrow. Next week it will plunge after the next rain next weekend. Yes, Mother Nature is off her meds!

Willie, that beef made my mouth water looking at it, I swear I could smell it!!

Terry, It won't be long and the old place can disappear under it's own waste.

Sherril, Prayers for your recovery, the doctors and especially the nurses!

Gotta work, BBL

Good Morning All. Cloudy and a warm 62° at 0600. Winds are quite strong out of the SW at 20+ mph. Expecting a high of 70° again today before cooling off a bit for a couple of days. 66° on Saturday and back into the mid-70's on Sunday. Saving on the firewood right now! Our weather pattern mimics Patrick's for the next ten days or so, just not as cold and 6-8 hours behind.

I believe that the last remnants of the pneumonia have gone by the wayside. :) Took the last antibiotic yesterday, but I felt great prior to that. Breathing is back to effortless. I'll slowly resume walking that daily mile for the next few days to get back into that routine. I do miss that daily exercise. I was able to resume splitting some more of that large tree that we took down last year; kinda have to get it all up and stacked before I have to resume mowing. I still have about a third of a cord left to do and everything is 12"-22" in diameter.

Thanks to all who liked the pictures of the LHS purchases, and of course the tenderloin; Jaz, Steve J, Hughie, Chad, Guy, Greg, Dave B, Joe, OB Ken, Karl, Mikey, Smudge, Tom O, Patrick, Rick, Tom, Gary.

Well, I just couldn't stand it any longer out in the train shed yesterday. I just had to start on building one of the structures that I purchased Saturday. So off the workbench went the tree making stuff, although I did manage to make 25 of them. I chose the Walther's "Smiths General Store".
IMG_0401.JPG

This is a kit made for Walther's by Kibri, and similar to other kits contracted out to them is very advanced with well-fitting parts and generally better instructions.
IMG_0404.JPG

The walls and windows are made with a process called co-extrusion, with two colors molded as one. Here's a shot of a sprue showing the contrast.
IMG_0403.JPG

We used a similar process in the vinyl window industry to produce window parts that were one color on the inside and another on the outside.
For the most part, these parts snap together and glue/solvent is only required in a couple of spots. Of course, the entire thing can be glued together if the modeler wishes. I glued the internal parts of the door on the right. The doors themselves are molded into the clear parts as seen on the left.
IMG_0405.JPG

Here are the windows using the same process.
IMG_0411.JPG

This is the assembled structure. The bay window is glued over either one of the top twin units, but not until I add curtains to mask the unit behind it.
IMG_0406.JPG

Today, I will disassemble it and add the window treatments all of the way around. Some of the commercial signs are in German and won't be used. Walther's includes a decal sheet with American signs, but in keeping with Walther's tradition, the Bakery and Saloon signs are too large to fit anywhere on the front wall.
IMG_0408.JPG

The kit also comes with a single LED lighting fixture which will go into a box with two others that I have from other kits made for them by Kibri. A single light doesn't really do me any good, but now that I have several, I will use them somewhere.

Steve J - I am not a financial advisor, nor do I know your financial situation; but I would be more inclined to keep that company stock as is instead of cashing it in. It's about the only way that you're going to beat inflation right now, especially since it seems that the company is doing so well.
In the past, I have used clear Plexiglass around an extension like that. Cut a piece and drill extra large holes for screws. Plexiglass expands and contracts a great deal. You might be able to get a scrap piece from someplace that makes skylights. We made them at our window company. It cuts easily with a fine-tooth jigsaw blade.
Dave - I usually make my own barbed wire fences with toothpicks for posts and fine wire strung through holes that I drill in them. But I am woefully behind on my fencing of various areas and I decided to give this stuff a try. It looks good and it looks to be easy to install. I have actually been eyeballing it for several months and finally pulled the trigger. Of course I will display the results here.
William - Long time-no see! Good to see your posts.
Sherrel - Wow! That's far worse than I understood from our conversation last week. I certainly hope that you don't have to endure the ER again and can get some relief soon. Positive thoughts and prayers for you.

Today is National Do A Grouch A Favor Day. It's too bad that Beady is no longer participating here!
Everybody have a great day.
