Good morning all,

Beautiful, sunny morning here in Hammonds Plains (+8c) but dropping to the minus teens again this weekend though. I Have to run to Costco today for some grub and will go to the LHS. Will start buying the track for my outer mainline today, 24” curves.
Enjoying my coffee and then having some raisin bran.

I hope you all have a great day !

Did a little more dismantling of the modules yesterday. Salvaged 4 strips of track using a long razor to cut them away from the cork roadbed.
Took the door to the transport box apart and salvaged quite a few drywall screws and the lift handles.
I'm feeling better already knowing I don't have to mess with this thing anymore.

Good Morning! And a beautiful, clear sky morning it is at 25F with the moon visible to the west. The wind is still howling outside, but, that should die down today.

Thank you for the well wishes and likes on my last posting.

Today, I have a lot to do while the wife is gone to work. I'm going to make her some custom fit shelving and install some electrical outlets so she can have her own hobby area. She likes to propagate plants and such, so I'm making an area away from my modelling room. She'll have some grow lights and some shelving, but most importantly, her own space with a work table.

The new Rapido SW1200 arrived a day early. I purchased it M/O through my favorite LHS in Edmonton, Hobby Wholesale. I figure I got as good a deal there as anywhere, because shipping was free.
Here's a series of photos of the new unit:

Well, coffee is gone and I'm not going to hang around. I'll take a rapid test to see if I'm still carrying that nasty virus, and then it's off to get started on the project.

Have a great day!

I take it the tracks are glued down ?

Good Morning All. Clear and 41°. Up and down weather coming with 77° expected for the high today, and 49° expected for the high tomorrow. And that will be at midnight tonight! Returning to 65° Sunday.

Today's plan includes another visit to my doctor to discuss the results of all of the scans, x-rays and blood tests from the last ten days. I'm still feeling crappy from shortness of breath and a general lethargic feeling. It's a shame since the days have been so nice and I haven't been able to get much in the way of outdoor chores and projects done. The next two days are shot already as tomorrow is my wife's birthday and there's some kind of football game Sunday. I'll be spending Saturday night in Dallas again at my daughters home, sadly they have no trains! On the positive side, my son and daughter in law are coming up for the birthday party with our latest two month old grandson, who we haven't seen in person yet.

My diabetes is borderline type 2 and I mostly keep it under control with a combination of non-insulin medication and strict control of carb intake. I test daily and generally keep the glucose level below 120; my doc wants it below 150 and it's rare that it gets anywhere close to that.. I could most likely quit the medication if I would lose another 25 pounds

Thanks for the likes and comments regarding the feed store that I posted yesterday; Patrick, Dave B, Guy, Steve J, Tom O, Gary, Lee, Louis, James, Chad, Justin, Karl, Smudge, Curt, Joe, Moermusic, Tom, Hughie, Mikey, IB Ken.

I resumed making trees yesterday in the train shed. I'm now up to 21 of them, some are Woodland Scenics armatures, one is a Super Tree, and several are re-worked Chinese ones. I did mainly smaller scrub trees so far.

They have been hit with a shot of dull coat to hold the ground foam in place and are now ready for the layout.

No time this morning to respond to the multitude of posts from yesterday, but there are a few that I will get to later today.

Everybody have a great day. Be safe.

Great cars, thanks for sharing!

I would like to see more of the B&O time saver. 😁

Good morning from So. Central Wisconsin. Some snow/rain mix last evening left the driveway covered with some white but it’s actually ice. It should be gone by 10am as it is in the mid 30’s right now.

I have too many projects going and when I walked into the train room I decided cleaning up was the first thing. I think I have a bigger mess now then when I started.

The 8 year old grandson hit his head at hockey practice last night. Took him off the ice and his parents watched him all night. Had a small headache this morning but went off to school. The doctor, school nurse and teachers have been notified. Not good, his uncle had to quit playing before his HS junior year due to concussions. His mom played through college with no injuries. We understand the ramifications of concussions at a young age. Back when the son had his first the doctor said he’ll shake it off. Times and knowledge have changed.

We have a Badger Women’s hockey game tonight. They are ranked at #3 nationally but they truly don’t look that good. For three years until 3 weeks ago they hadn’t been ranked below #2 and were #4 in the polls last week. Having 5 starters playing in the Olympics for Canada and USA finally has caught up with them. Plus 2 others that were cut from the USA team too late to get back to school on campus.

Have a great day
TomO

On the bright side. Yesterday was my beautiful, young wife's birthday! 😁 My wife is an amazing lady, there is almost nothing she can't do. I am blessed to spend all day, everyday with her. I have had too many women in my life. My Angel is the first one I never get tired of being with. Like now I can't wait for her to wake up, just to sit with her for a few minutes before we start another busy day together. Everyday feels like Christmas, she is the best present I have ever received, thank God. My only regret is I didn't find her sooner. On the other hand my previous experiences help me to full appreciate her.
Sunday the kids came over and took over the house, putting together a wonderful dinner and birthday party for my wife. My wife is a great mother as well.
I don't have the most money, but I think of myself as the richest man in the world because my gifts are priceless treasures.

Bonus, I get to take my youngest grandson to school today! I can't imagine my life could be any better!

Have a great day Everybody!
Good for you, Bruette.

Yeah, the track is secured to the cork roadbed with flexible caulk. If I used the liquid nails it would have been easier to break it free with a little flexing.
Another member of the club asked that I preserve the yard throats with the turnouts, switch machines and DS64s. He would like to do some work on them to try to make em work. The big problem is the wood warping way out of control. If he just wants to take them to salvage components, then no.

Good Morning all!

Yucky night and day weather-wise, with snow, sleet, rain, ice, and snow all within about 12 hours or so.

Minneapolis dropped its vaccine card requirement for dining yesterday effective immediately, so the kids wanted to celebrate. So no modeling last night. I did get some work done in the late afternoon before going to work-em-out place. I took the weights off the newly laid track and ran a car along. Rolls great!

Then I want to be able to wire up sections of track 'as I go' - I have seen that is a good method for troubleshooting crossed wires. If you have a short after only wiring up one section - then you know where the problem is, right? I like simple. So I programmed my PSX-AR and will mount it under the table on a hinged piece of hardboard next to the PSX Circuit Breaker:
20220211_093229.jpg

Obviously have not completed the wiring. I will run from a term strip to the PSX-1 (I actually bought a PSX-2 and separated them per instructions), and then from the PSX power link ports to the PSX-AR. SHould be nice and neat. Screw the other end of the hinge to a joist, and be able to flip it up out of the way when not needing access - - which should be most of the time!

Today I hope to start laying the 22 inch curves that will occupy the extension I put on not long ago. Progress!!

n-n-out burger places like Chik-fillet in both my wife and my books are highly overrated. I am not saying you are wrong in your enjoyment of it though. I just would like you to know there are better burgers outthere.

When in Austin the last 8 years we were always stopping there. In Austin alone P-Terry’s is a more enjoyable burger. I feel that it is comparable to the butter burgers at Culver’s in the Midwest, USA.

I prefer Mooyah’s burger chain to 5 Guys, In-n-out, MickeyD’s, Culver’s, Whataburgers and Wendy’s. For cleanliness though In-n-out is far and away superior over IMO #2 McDonalds if in the Midwest. The east coasts McDonalds overall seem much dirtier then anywhere else.

Of course food is subjective. So nothing I am saying is meant to disagree or combat other's opinions.

I've been to a bunch of different "gourmet" and higher end burger places and I personally prefer In-N-Out to any I have been to. Also prefer it to 5 Guys, Sonic, and Culvers (and Whataburger when we travel to AZ). I'd even rather have In-N-Out compared to Shake Shack (which we finally got here a couple years ago). Smashburger is good but more expensive and not in my area (have to travel 30 min). And as an every-day value (ie, quick stop to grab something) it can't be beat as it is pretty inexpensive. McDonalds doesn't even make my list. EVERY burger joint is better for burgers than McD IMNSHO (excepting McD in Japan -- they are not bad for a quick bite while out and about and you're "tired" of Japanese food). There are always fancier, "better" places that are more expensive.

We don't have Mooyah's around here.

Obviously there are better places for Chicken than Chick-Fil-A. But for every day use and their level of attentive service (at least around here) I rate them highly because of their nuggets (and in my old age their Southwest Salad). Both Chick-Fil-A and In-N-Out usually have well trained employees, are clean and organized, and are toptier fast food. Sit down / fast casual are a tier above fast food so my comparisons are mainly with other fast food joints.

My youngest son, now 32, was quite athletic as a youth. Played roller hockey in Texas, one season of football, soccer for years, etc. When we went to his high school orientation as an incoming 9th grader, he insisted on talking to the football coaches. They and he were all excited and I just let them keep talking. It's good to dream. Finally coach-guy looks up at me and asks, "Any questions Dad?"

"No," says I, "but you should probably know that he has had three concussions in 20 months."

Coachey-man looks at Erik, "Have you considered chess club?"
