I remember someone that cast Keystone Station and Tower signs, that was in the 70s. I like your whistle and Bell posts. Regret not getting my hands on a real one. While the W sign was common approaching road crossings, the only place I recall R signs was on the A&S Branch at Columbia, PA., where there was a noise ordinance. There were also MX signs approaching multiple crossing but they were rare in comparison.

PRR # 8592 on break in run. Incredibly quiet running, with accurate ALCo sound, and awesome detail.

Dave: I presume those are the ships that sail down the St. Lawrence River in the Fall?

Troy: And they are really very frugal...Hate to spend money on things they can produce themselves for less.

Greg: Because they can. And because y'all are seasonal residents...it's an easy job for the vendor...

Not for nothing, I will no longer mention neither taxes nor septic tanks again....

Louis: Thought Sonic was a drive through burger joint. Man, I'm behind the times.

BLI is offering a PRR class E6 4-4-2 Steam Passenger Locomotive in three versions. MSRP is $599.99. That's equivalent to two sound equipped RS3s....I think I'll stick with diesels.
They eventually make it out that way

There is some misconception about Diabetes I think, I'm type 2, so no insulin, just tablets, I still eat what I used to, I used to drink Coke by the gallon, and I love chocolate, both big no no's, but I still have both and my suger levels are within normal, trick is not what you eat, is how much you eat, I love jacket potatoes with beans and cheese, I still do and I enjoy it, but now, Small potato little beans and cheese, coke is in 300ml cans, I used to have 2 or 3 a day, now a small 130ml can maybe once or twice a week, chocolate, about the same now, its all about moderation really. Oh I also used to weigh 253lbs now 221lbs, that goes a long way in controlling it too, and if you have to go to the bathroom 2-3 times a night, that's your body getting rid of your excess sugar, that you liver can't cope with.
Ya, ima type II also. alcohol does not mess with my blood sugar, in fact it is usually just over 100 the morning after. Did insulin a couple of years ago or so then they switched me to Ozempic when I went under A1C of 8. I also lost weight - started at 285, now 220 - can't seem to get that last bit of belly bulge off. I think I will make 200/210 in time. I eat pretty much what I want and have really cut down on portions. Get to go to the Doc next week for my yearly so we will see how it goes with A1C and Cholesterol.

I don’t see a “mis-conception”. Any information regarding diabetes either 1 or 2 says reduce alcohol consumption. I certaining wasn’t criticizing Ken, I was surprised he had one, that’s all for his 1st day on the monitor. As i stated, everyone is different.

While white starches of any kind are strongly suggested you don’t eat, I believe occasionally should be fine. My sister in law is a type 2. She cannot do alcohol even a small glass of wine. Her BG goes into the 300’s. She can eat a small order of French fries as a snack twice a week from McDonalds and her BG levels don’t change. If I even think about eating fries my levels go up. I never was much of a alcohol user so that never concerned me by having to avoid it.

The Continous Glucose Monitor is a great device and as Ken wrote that will show almost immediately what a certain food can do to the BG levels. All medical advice are guides. How you interrup or use that advice is a personal decision.

I do know quite a few type 2 diabetics that are insulin users. I don’t believe Ken is type 2.

I currently count carbs and it’s 40-60 for breakfast and lunch each. 60-75 for dinner. I can’t eat less carbs at say lunch and try to makeup the total at dinner. Consistency is the word my dietitian keeps stressing. I miss my cold breakfast cereals. But the carbs were for 1/2 cup, the serving size on the box label of 45 were too much. I was definitely have 2 or more servings plus the carbs in milk. Low sugar products don’t mean a thing to my medical team. Right now they are concerned about carbs. Therefore, so am I.

be well

Good Morning all!

31F heading to 45F according to weather guessers.

Grain in Containers looks to be a fun thing to model. I got the chance to load and unload potatoes last year with a refer. To load, ya backed into a conveyor and spuds were transported in. Unload was a little different. Tipped the whole nine yards into the air as the spuds rolled out. I am sure that you have seen this before, but it was the first time it happened to MY trailer. I did carrots a few years back and that was a whole new game. Loading was almost the same although they used water to squirt the things in on a slight incline. Then water again to wash them out. Carrots were a lot less messy than potatoes as they seemed to withstand their own weight better and only a few got stuck in the channel on the bottom of the trailer. Both net weights were over 40K. Have seen pulp mills to this also and in some cases both the tractor and trailer were tipped up, not just the trailer.

That’s about the same idea as our grain loading process. Back in 1993 I picked up a load of potatoes in Colorado near Wolf Creek Pass I was loaded at 55 degrees and was delivering them to Atlanta produce market. They were in huge totes.

Good Morning All. Mostly clear and 42°, should hit 70° again today. Other than Saturday, that's going to be our weather for another week or so with thundershowers on Wednesday/Thursday.
Dental visit yesterday was mostly uneventful for me except I have a small cavity to fill. I believe that it a filling that previously came out and has been replaced before. At the same time, my wife had her permanent crown put in from the tooth that she broke in December. Not so good an outcome. I don't understand why she didn't notice while she was there, but the damn crown is too tall and none of her other teeth meet because of this! Today is the weekly grocery/beer trek for us. Longer list than normal since we went early last week.

As an aside to the septic tank discussion yesterday, mine is only connected to the "black water" drains from the toilets. All bath, sink, laundry and dishwasher water goes into a parallel "grey water" line that drains and is absorbed into a field on a different side of the house. That keeps all of the soap and other crud out of the septic tank itself.

Thanks for the comments and the likes yesterday; Guy, Troy, Alan, James, Alan, Gary, Smudge, Steve J, Tom O, Hughie, Chad, Karl, Joe, Dave B, Patrick, Curt, Louis, Lee, Tom, IB Ken, Mikey.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I put away the figures for the time being. I did complete 17 of them over the past few days; pictures tomorrow after I apply the dull coat. The tree making stuff is now on the workbench. I actually made several smaller crude ones and a couple of medium (to me) ones yesterday.
Since I have nothing new to post today, I'll post a feed store. This is Wayne Feeds, a recent addition to the town of Graham.

Troy - Some function of my hearing aids masks the tinnitus that I have. The audiologist explained it to me once. It has something to do with amplifying certain other sounds. Seems to work. Yours may do the same.
Guy - Good news on several fronts, getting over the bug and not giving it to your grandkids. Continued good luck with your recovery as I am sure that your wife misses you.
Alan - I absolutely agree with you on the Classic Metalworks cars.
Joe - Hopefully the CT scan doesn't turn up anything problematic.
Terry - Is it that job in SC, or one local to you? Good luck either way.

Everybody have a safe and productive day today.
Nice Feedstore we used to trade at Wayne Feed in the next town over when I was a kid I always liked the smell in there and my dad would always buy fresh eggs there.

Lee, can you describe the Atlanta Produce market in 1 or 2 words? I can describe the LA market of the early 70s in 2. But not on here.......

Alan: Agree. I just don't have enough of them on my layout.

My Bowser RS3 is out for delivery....Photos at Eleven...
You know I gave up building a large layout at home years ago. I'm set to pull the pin in a little over a year at which time I will probably build a small home layout, possibly traction, so I've accumulated a large stash of vehicles. Three or four Xerox copy paper boxes worth. You don't realize it until you get there, but even a smaller home layout or three or four modules can swallow vehicles like crazy. Most are for steam or transition era, so nothing much newer than 1957 or 8. One of those boxes is full of Athearn trucks with Mack B-60 cabs. Maybe I should build a truck stop diorama or a TOFC terminal! :)

Good afternoon, we have 12 above zero with a raw wind blowing

Louis, I found your comment on the Chevy Sonic. I knew you had one too. So many posts sometimes loose track

Curt, Willie Thanks for the comment on yesterdays pic. It is a favorite of mine

Hopefully getting some ground on my layout Saturday, then will really start making scenery

a final view 034.JPG

I like the way the ground is in the foreground, hope I can get a similar look on the new layout. Funny thing I have observed about doing scenery, the best results seem to come quite by accident.

By The Way, there is a rabbit hunt going on, I picked out three of the rabbits I forgot were there (above photo)

Mother in Law's place had her finger system for the septic freeze up a few years ago (NE Indiana - we do get sub-zero F° days and had. a week of them).

that caused the main tank to fill. She had to have it pumped out... One little old lady just can't generate enough 💩 all by herself to keep those microbes happy.

On a better note, her county has declared that outhouses and septic tanks are an issue, and are requiring all county residents to go on septic sewer. Her little bump in the road non-incorporated town is currently getting the pipes run to the houses.

Seems the only people with an issue with that idea are the ones with the outhouses. The Amish. That part of Indiana has a Metric-Crap-Load of Amish.

Sanitary sewer requires running water. Which is against their lifestyle. Well, I suppose they could put in one commode 🚽, and a hand pump next to it. Get some exercise filling the toilet tank with the hand pump from the well.

Maybe flushing is what's against their lifestyle.
Wait til she hears the fitting price, she’ll be pooping like mad!

So a funny thing just happened. We have a FB group for our local neighborhood. There is also a competing company called Next Door which sets up neighborhood communities online. Someone posted a link to a Nextdoor.com rant about a local gas station and how they charged her son $150 to fill up his Honda Fit -- when she looked at the credit card account online. She was calling for a boycott of this gas station etc. There were claims about it being the banks fault (says the gas station) and blame on the gas station.

I calmly replied that there was a lot of misinformation. And then I made a really long post about how how gas stations (and hotels etc) obtain pre-authorizations before you pump the gas to make sure you can pay for the gas you get, and then will convert this transaction to a real authorization for the real amount and it is just a hold and book keeping on the bank's side and your real money was not being given to the gas station except for the actual sale amount and it only affected your available credit (which nobody watches closely anyway unless you are on the edge of being full). I did explain that swiping a debit card was slightly different since there is no credit available to dock (to guarantee the payment) so they have to hold the whole pre-authorization amount against your actual cash in your account. And that it can take a few days to settle out once the transaction is done at the pump due to the way that card charges work and how often the banks settle against customer accounts. Which is why you never swipe a debit card at a pump. Always use a debit card inside the gas station after pumping to pay (they may hold the card for you while you pump as a security measure).

Anyway, the poster of the story came back and said the gas station has her $150 for 2 days and can invest it and get interest etc. I explained again that that is not how it worked -- the $150 was just a pending authorization and no money changed hands. It would convert to a real transaction for the real amount which will eventually post to the account as a settled transaction. But that can take a few days. Usually you don't see the high dollar pending transactions on your account unless you look right away as once the gas is pumped and the pump closes the transaction, it gets converted from a pre-authorization for $150 to the actual amount of $35.28 or whatever it is and that is what you usually see (pending and settled). Of course, different issuing banks may handle the display of the data differently so you may see the large pending one more often. But it is still just book keeping.

The person also complained that they held $150 even though it was just a Honda Fit with a 10-11 gallon tank. I explained the pump doesn't know if you have a Honda Fit with a 10-11 gallon tank or a jacked up truck with a 35 gallon tank and with the price of gas today you would hit that $150 limit if filling the truck. The person said the people inside should "get off their _ss" and check the vehicle. Someone pointed out to that person that it is all automatic at the pump. None of the worker trigger anything.

I though it was funny how they kept brining up different things about it to be mad about, and claimed it was new at this station and had never happened there to them before. I (and another guy who used to work for Sinclair Oil in the credit card department who confirmed everything I said) explained that ALL gas stations with pay-at-the-pump work this way and it was not new at this station. I use this station (and a Murphy Express in the area) and said I had seen the large pending amounts once in a while if I looked quickly enough online at the account but usually they showed the smaller amount when I got around to looking as all the data transfer book keeping had caught up.

I also explained how I knew this -- besides taking cards myself in my own business for many years (not currently) I had written an iPhone app that was a credit card terminal for a certain backend system and had learned more than I ever wanted to know about how cards process through the process of writing this app and having to do it and communicate and clear the transactions with the backend.

Anyway, it as the FB laugh for the day. The person tried hard to keep coming back with more things to be mad about this gas station and their charging of cards about. None of which made sense or resembled how things actually happen.
You must have the patience of a saint, but good of you to point out the actual sad opposed to the suppositions. I bet the fuel place loved your responses.

Good Afternoon Fellow Model Railroaders......overcast and mild with a little light snow over night. More snow tonight with 1-2 inches possible.

Puppy sitting for Riley once again while Cathy is at the dentist and doing some shopping for herself. Riley is a good young dog and likes to sleep in her crate. All I have to say to Riley is "Time for a Nap" and she will go to and into her crate. Last night a pack of coyotes woke Riley and myself up in the middle of the night. Sounds like they were in our back yard.

One January night after a light snow and the temperature around zero, I took my dog out for a walk down the private lane that is along our property. The full moon came out so I could see the deer tracks combined with a set of wolf prints in the new snow. Our dog must of smelled the wolf and didn't mind turning around and heading back to the cabin. Wolfs are more common in Central Wisconsin than most people want to believe and rather go by the numbers provided by the DNR which I believe are low.

Just looking at my 1.75 liter Jack Daniels bottle next to my computer desk that's half full primarily with silver coins. Time to get the coins counted for some RR supplies like a new Digitrax throttle. I used to save the coins for TrainFest and in a year's time the coins add up. It's hard to find a bank to cont the coins.

Tomorrow, I plan on having a model railroad afternoon.

Went on Tuesday to check on the cabin. Maybe six inches of snow on the ground in the woods where there is shade. Cathy took some items for next Spring. We received our Collector Plates for Cathy convertible which is 20 years old and with only 30k, needs tires this year. It's stored 12 months in a rented storage area so it stays in good condition. Two years ago, I applied a silicone treatment to enhance its shine. It really worked and this year I may reapply the product.

This afternoon I plan on pulling out my "Railroading With John Allen" book to become inspired.

Time to go...............

Greg

Agreed, potatoes might be tolerated if you have jacket potatoes or leave the skins on so the fibres helps, but I think it’s a try it and see, better checking with the doctor first whether you have the leeway.

darker chocolate 80 plus percent means less sugar do more chocolate if you can fit it in.

the really really weird thing is if you eat low fat meat, lots of it,when on a low sugar diet, the body can and does turn exyta protein into sugar!
If diabetic I would say do NOT do a low fat diet.Do a calorie controlled diet, and if possible drop the grains, which means drop the 🥯 🍞 🥖 bread.
Also a often overlooked fact 3 rashers ,60-80 each,of bacon, two eggs,80-100 each, cooked in the bacon fat and mushrooms, not much but give vitamin d, is a good lunch for 450 calories, most blokes can easily accommodate this as a breakfast, but no nil zero bread. Is. Good diabetic menu, and really feeling, extra bacon or egg if calories allow.
Beware sausages often have bread carbs.

If you can face a Omad day one meal a day, you can have a great meal and filling, eat about 4-6 and then a snack within 4 hours, you will find your body quickly adapts, seriously waiting and getting a good meal works.

If you have acid reflux issues, eat pickles, east fermented food, take one teaspoon of cider vinegar in water, and in less than a month your stomach flora will recover, if you also Omad you rest you stomach a lot, your body starts up a clean up job over a longer period and repairs your body easier.

If you take vitamins, take them with food, and your body needs all the building blocks to repair,or they lay down fat.

Omad also means when you work am your body uses laid down fat also helping you lose fat,and trim body, and usually build muscle.

there is loads of stuff on the internet, often contradictory, and down right confusing, but check out omad. Check out the benefits of cider vinegar. Check out the benefits of fermented - often including pickled goods.

Avoid processed sugar replacements most of them do as much if not more harm than actual sugar.

Get your vitamins from vegetables, and only a little from fruit,if fruit apples are good, the saying an apple a day keeps the doctor away had sone subfstance
]Since the beginning of 2021 the other half and I have dieted slowly, it no more than a couple pounds each month is best to avoid saggy skin, I have lost over 2 stone,he has lost 4 stone, he is much taller more muscled and bigger to start. We have tried several diets as long as we follow calorie control as well,as boredom set in we tried another, if sone thing did not work we stopped and tried something else, and when certain foods caused problems we stopped or radically reduced them
tomatoes love them, but too many can cause mouth ulcers.
eggs, whole eggs love them, excellent food very filling, but drink well or you can get constipated.
do not overdose on vit c,high usage when actually unwell,
winter time hammer vitamin D3 (not d2) and k2, the D3 and k2 work very well together, and stop some issues from just k2.
D3 underlays over 150 processes in your body, not enough they cannot work, summer time 10 minutes out in the sun and you do not need tablets, only take them when you cannot get sunshine.

OK I am getting boring, getting? Hope this helps.

Yes but loads rely on the US doing the dirty work, which is very unfair, I understand their budget makes us look a punch up in the p,any ground, and the UK when part of the EU reduced our forces substantially.
Oh boy! Here we go again. Staying out of this one. We're skirting the political "third rail". I do enjoy polite intelligent debate. I almost always learn something in the process even it it's only an opposing opinion and the reasons for it, but sometimes I get carried away. :) I'll pass on this one.

TomO, Sorry I wasn't meaning your post per se'. I meant as a general term there are several misconceptions what people think they know about Diabetes.
