Septic tank maintenance free? Mine was 6 years old when I had to replace the pump system, $2000. A few years later the pump panel had to be replaced. Had to have it pumped out twice now by Virginia law and operator said it was the easiest system he's ever done. Well maintained. I live by myself so it doesn't get all the stuff that most tanks get.
I've just realised, that's far more than I will ever need to know about the relationship between you and your septic tank 🤣 🤣

Good morning all! Partly sunny and 35 here in SE Illinois heading for partly sunny and 44. Day off today with plenty to do.

My diabetes doctor prescribed a sensor for me to wear on my arm to help me monitor my glucose levels better and more frequently. Had to make sure my insurance was going to approved it, which they did, so today I go back to the doctor's office to be taught how to use it. I've been struggling with keeping my levels where they need to be and I'm hoping this will help. I used to do extremely well with managing my diabetes but lately it's not been going so well.

Gotta get groceries while we're out and also going to have an early Valentines Day lunch with my wife at Texas Roadhouse. Hope you all have a great day!

Yep,totally understand what you are going through. I have been counting carbs for 3 weeks now and it is making a great difference but a work in progress. The CGM was denied by my insurance company because I am not insulin dependent. Appealing that decision, they have a program, image that, that I do qualify for. The continuous monitor should be here next week.

Good morning. My 10:30am with theBehavioral Health Specialist was cancelled a few minutes ago, she is sick. She is one of the reasons I have been able to sleep again.

Not much to write. I miss the informative and thoughtfully polite tax discussions. Yeah, I do…

Train room time may be great today. I have to sit down in there and decide on a to do list and the priorities to create them. I need to get organized again.

Joe - A properly installed septic system is practically maintenance-free and costs next to nothing to operate. I do have to mow more often above the lateral lines though!
Willie: I have heard that...makes me wonder why the locals have so many problems...OTOH, the locals living in utility served areas have a inordinate number of problems with those systems also...and the utility sells an insurance policy to partially cover the repairs. Based on Ken's, (VA), comments, things can go wrong, and sometimes do. Some jurisdictions also regulate more than others.
I always appreciate your recollections of life on the railroads. It certainly helps me operate in a more prototypical manner
Willie: Thank you.

It is a coffee shop as mentioned earlier and hopefully we can maintain some adult decorum with the discussions…..I know I enjoy reading all of the opinions for sure. A lot of important topics are always discussed here by some pretty knowledgeable people in my humble opinion.
Gary: Good point, it is an open discussion forum, and since there are no trolls here, adult decorum is usually maintained. I do recognize that others don't see things the way I do, and the Owner and Moderators have limited subjects to avoid the chaos of trolling found elsewhere. The model railroad forums offer numerous train subject forums within this forum where anything deviating from the topic, is obviously off topic. The coffee shop has no specific topic, and individuals can block members who offend them. The group here is very civil, with little need for moderation.

TomO: Yeah, something to that...I agree.

'll come back into the shop later, when things are right and I've taken some photos of train and hobby related subjects. Until then, I am a lurker.
Guy: Get well. We miss you.

I love those Classic Metalworks cars. Not much metal in them anymore, but they are very well done
Alan: Agree. I just don't have enough of them on my layout.

My Bowser RS3 is out for delivery....Photos at Eleven...

Good morning, afternoon all,

Currently 27 and cloudy, windy, damp.

Willie - At 645 this morning, we were only 7 degrees colder in Sandstone MN compared to your local in Texas. Wierd.

Louis - Our sonic now has 125,000 miles, it is a 2013. I have changed the oil several times and the filter is somewhat novel, however changing it shouldn't take an expert more than 15 minutes (I did it in 10 minutes, and that out in the winter cold)

I would say it performs even better than our 2005 Buick Century, which was an excellent car in and of itself. The sonic shows no rust and continues to dominate with fuel economy (I get a steady 39 mpg during my daily 130 mile commute). My wife wears a heavier foot, when she is driving it I see it down as low as 35 mpg.

Getting excited again about the weekend, use up the rest of my flex trac then will start on the landscaping.

If there are any lines on the new layout, it may just be telegraph.

Have a great day, Dave

I have the old fashioned anaerobic one with just a pair of tanks and lateral lines. No pump or irrigation system. I pour a box of Rid-Ex in it about twice a year and let Mother Nature take care of the rest. My county does not have any permitting or inspection requirements, providing you own 10+ acres,, although mine is most likely compliant.

We had a septic tank (70s tech version) when I lived in Mass as a kid. My dad dumped a box of Rid-X in about once a month and we had it pumped out at some interval of years and the guy who pumped it always said it was the best and most well maintained tank he ever saw. We never had issues, that I can recall, in 17 years living there, and beyond the above, did no maintenance as far as I am aware.

I do remember that the snow always melted first over the area the tank was at 🤣

Later I rented a house (5 years) in New Hampshire that had a septic system. It was not that well maintained, though I did occasionally put Rid-X in. It had to be pumped out at least once while I rented. I rented 98-2002 (almost 5 years) and the house was from the early 80s. The guy who pumped it out was not impressed with its condition.

The real problem as I see it is excessive government spending. Foreign aid is at the top of my list. That includes having thousands of US military troops located in countries that could well afford their own, Germany, Japan, UK, and others.
Why aren't these countries paying the United States for the protection that our armed forces stationed in their countries provide these countries. Plus, just think about all the money the service members spend in the foreign countries where they are located. The United States is the first to rush aid to foreign countries in their time of need or just plain aid. Why not use this money to rebuild our country's infrastructure instead of raising the nation's debt limit. -just my opinion and not that of the Forum.

Hmmm, all this talk about drain systems makes me remember something I heard about Poland’s military buildup.

With all the tensions these days, they decided to be proactive. As soon as they figure out how to drive them, they’re going to invade Russia with the 1000 septic tanks they ordered…

This tax thing has turned into quite a discussion. My simple observations are that 1) the rich are not getting richer because they are paying less taxes, they are getting richer because they are working harder at getting richer. As Chad has pointed out, they are actually paying more according to reliable statistics. 2) Most middle income people did not realize that they were paying less because of direct deposit. They quit looking at pay stubs and just looked occasionally at their balance online without realizing where it was coming from. My wife, an H&R Block tax preparer had to show this to many people when she did their taxes in the last few years. 3) A lot of the federal tax savings was eaten away by state and local authorities taking up the slack. 4) There is some truth to trickle-down. My son works for Amazon cloud services, today they announced that they were going to double their wages. I expect to see raises to the warehouse workers in the near future, but not as great.
The real problem as I see it is excessive government spending. Foreign aid is at the top of my list. That includes having thousands of US military troops located in countries that could well afford their own, Germany, Japan, UK, and others. On the state and local level are all of the subsidiaries and incentives given to big business like Amazon to locate in their area. And don't get me started about entitlements. Thank goodness that I live in a state with no state income tax.
All the countries mentioned do have their own Armed forces, of course we do, but the US have base's around the world in countries they have deemed Strategic to the defense of the USA and it's Allies and to aid in movement of personnel and material to any given crisis whether civilian or military anywhere in the world.

Just a hard time selling him. Sd40-2 BNSF Heritage unit I purchased to patch with no sound but is DCC. I couldn’t bring myself to patch such IMO beautiful locomotive.

TomO: I really like that BNSF color scheme. My first DCC locomotive was a BNSF in the same color as your former unit and since it was a favorite of mine you may still see it run on my C&MN Railroad. If I did a custom locomotive for my road I would closely copy the BNSF colors. -Greg

They actually do. All these countries have Status of Forces agreements which includes how the costs of maintaining the bases are allocated. One of the former Presidents thigs was getting them to pay more and IIRC he got Korea to agree to more cost sharing.

Here is a 6 year old article detailing how it works in Japan. This has probably changed by now but gives you an idea on how it works

A little more up-to-date info on Japan and Korea

Good Morning!

Yes, Willie; I have lurked for a-bit while recovering from that nasty bug that we must learn to live with. All I really want to say about it, is that I am very thankful I chose to get full vaccinations. If not, I believe I would have been in it very deep.
Now, seven days into it, I'm in recovery.

I believe I picked up the virus while shopping in the local Canadian Tire big-box store. The G-kids and my son are clear of it, so I contracted covid after I took care of the kids for 1 month. - Today, I live isolated from my wife, who remains negative. I'm taking every precaution so as not to spread it any further.

I'll come back into the shop later, when things are right and I've taken some photos of train and hobby related subjects. Until then, I am a lurker.

Have a good one!
Your health is more important than our entertainment, thanks for updating us,take care.
