Taxes, trains, money and religion. When you have a discussion it’s great it can be polite as the people here seem to respect each other.

Finally sold this guy.

Just a hard time selling him. Sd40-2 BNSF Heritage unit I purchased to patch with no sound but is DCC. I couldn’t bring myself to patch such IMO beautiful locomotive.

I thought I put the gp40-2 B&M locomotive in the stripper bag of 99% IPA. The bag is full but I never added the engine shell, I think I was more out of it then I thought. Also, the bag is full of 70% IPA based on the empty bottle by the bag. The 99% bottle is still full next to Mr. 70%.

One last question on this tax stuff. In NY we pay over $8,000 in school, town and county tax. My wife's friend who lives in Boynton Beach FL a very clean well keep area with a golf course pays $250.00 a year. Willie with his 15 acres pays $1,000. We have 1 acre and like I said, pay $8,000.00. How does that work? Someone explains that to me. Then we'll move on to another subject. If you venture into New York City your chances of not making it out alive are good. That's why I'm paying the $8,000.00 the great security we have in the state?

To answer your question read your post, you say why yourself. Now can we please please drop this.

Good afternoon, all. A fabulous day here in H-Town, 63 degrees and sunny with a light breeze. I was going to wash the cars, but the well is acting funny. I think the foot valve is leaking, allowing the water to flow back in to the well. I have a pressure drop of 25 psi. in a matter of minutes with no water usage in the house.

I think one of the best things about this forum is wide diversity of its members. With that said, I also think that a brief, quick line or two that might be construed as religious, or political is going to happen. It just has to. Look at the group, all ages, all over the country, heck all over the world, it is bound to pop up now and then. I guess we have probably pushed the limits this time.

My MOW made an appearance yesterday. All but the crane were stuffed in a box under the layout.

Joe - Life here is not all Utopia, I also have to pay for trash pickup and have to maintain my own septic system. Both relatively minor compared to the benefits though.
;) I regret posting my comments, with all the uproar that followed. Guess I didn't realize just how angry I have become over time.

I guess the happiest Jersey people, are the ones who "Used" to live here. I'm going to let it go at that.

I never lived anywhere where a septic system was necessary. But parts of out township, are just now getting water and sewer. They are not happy, because apparently cutting in costs as much as a new septic system, and the annual sewer fee is more than double what it costs to maintain their septic system...In some neighborhoods we pay an annual flat rate for sewer, with the option of paying quarterly. Water, we pay for the meter, and actual use. In other neighborhoods, sewer rates are based on water consumption. That's because the water is through a private utility, while half of the town is served by municipal sewers, the other half the sewers are operated by the water utility.

Not one person has answered my question why Willie pays $7,000.00 less in taxes than I do. I figured no one could answer that.
George: Nah, since I'm in the same boat as You, I cannot answer it either, but would like to know the secret. That $7000 / year would make a difference. When I was the Night Terminal Superintendent at South Karney and North Bergen, we had a Supervisor Train Operations transfer to Indianapolis. He was ecstatic when he found how much more disposable income he had in Indy, vs. North Jersey. It was over all cost of living.

Just checked, the RS3 order has not been fulfilled yet, maybe tomorrow....

Good Morning All. Clear and 36, maybe 70° later on. Other than Saturday, temperatures in the 60's and 70's for the next ten days. And except for Saturday, low temps in the upper 30's and mid 40's as well. However I am not fooling myself into thinking that winter is over yet here, maybe though.
I made it through the marathon of medical tests unscathed yesterday. While medical technicians aren't allowed to tell you much, the one doing the heart sonogram did say that there was no abnormalities.

Sure has been a lively discussion regarding taxes since yesterday. I'll refrain from any more comments unless forced to.

Thanks for all of the likes and comments regarding the action poses on the layout; Steve J, Gary, Patrick, George, James, Smudge, Karl, Chad, Hughie, Mikey, Dave B, Curt, Louis, Rick, IB Ken, Moermusic, Tom.

My visit to the train shed yesterday was brief due to the appointments that I had earlier. Really just the same old stuff, ground cover and figure painting.
Meanwhile a few more action scenes.

Tom O - I missed your early morning post yesterday regarding your surgery. I hope all was successful and your recovery is rapid.
Looks like you answered part of my post.
Patrick -

At least you're getting paid to read!;)
Nice train show haul.
James - An excellent model.
Joe - Life here is not all Utopia, I also have to pay for trash pickup and have to maintain my own septic system. Both relatively minor compared to the benefits though.
Hughie - Nice scenes.

I probably shouldn't post what she is really doing!
Steve J - At our church that $100 is always cash and is generally not reported by the donor. When I was younger serving as an altar boy in our Catholic church, the priest always split it with us altar boys and the organist, although it was far less back then.
Moermusic - I never intentionally overpaid taxes to get a big refund. I'd rather not let the government use my money interest-free all year long. I always paid as I went and rarely got over $50 in a refund. That is until last year when some bill that Congress passed that retroactively exempted some income taxes on wife's unemployment that we had already had withheld.
George -

That could get me in trouble with a politically filled answer! One thing that the State of Texas does that solely supports higher education, is to tax all oil as it comes out of the ground, thus spreading one of our taxes over the whole population of the US.

Everybody have a great day. Stay safe.
Guess I made you mad or something again I’ve been taken off the list lol

Hi George, the tanker car question -

There is always a boxcar behind the locomotives in a string of tankers coming out of Williston (Shale oil). I think it is loaded with something incase of a head on

May be a newer safety measure, not in play on everyones railroad, probably not applying to all tankers either
That is very interesting, I wasn’t aware of that. I will keep my eyes open up here for that.

Afternoon All,

This morning I went to Lowes for a grout sponge and Joann's for foamboard. Although Joann's had a lot of empty shelves, they had what I needed. After getting home I applied a wash of RA and Tamiya NATO black on the build's roof. When dried it has almost a greyish look. I took a picture but deleted it since the weathering is subtle and hard to see. After that I put 2x10 planks on the first of two platform tops (butt together) for the rail side platform that sits on concrete supports. After lunch I was feeling chilled and tired, so I laid down for a couple of hours. I'm feeling a little better now. I've been fighting some bug that I feel cold/flu like symptoms for a couple of days, then feel better for a couple of days, then it comes back again.

Todd- Neat caboose.

Dave- Nice scene.

Willie- Nice action scenes. I wish I could bend over as much as that one figure does! :D

Gary- Nice photo.

James- Great scenes. Your friend does incredible work.

Hughie- Very nice scenes and work train.

Lee- Great looking box cars.

Louis- Very nice.

Troy- That is some great painting on those figures.

TomO- I'm glad you're doing well.

Joe- Neat photos.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Gary: Depends on what the tank car contains, or in the case of an empty what it last contained. A tank car of liquid fertilizer or animal fat could run anywhere. sulfuric acid or other hazardous materials has to be spaced.
Weirdly, animal fat would be classed as hazardous, because it would affect the local enviroment, especially if it reached a local water course, but liquid fertilizer not, as it's organic, just hazardous to your nose.

I can answer that - somewhat!
If you look at Texas RE prices, you will find that they are more in line with most other places. If I purchased a same value home there, my taxes would be darn close to what they are here. Willie should be on the QT least the assessor wakes up!
Texas may not have an income tax, but their re taxes come pretty close to 1% ,if I remember correctly, but there are also deductions for farm land - and other items.

Next, it may have to do with who controls the purse! All of our taxes are too high because there is so much waste, graft, and corruption from the officials in charge.
Just as an example, our city manager is being paid $250,000 a year and has a free auto and a $200k expense account -- that is criminal in my book. Who sets these payouts? A couple years back the mayor of Bell Gardens, pop 42,000, was getting $800k plus a year. I think he finally went to jail? Our water bill is 100 dollars a month and we use very little water, but 80 of that 100 goes to "other" expenses including 6 on the water board whose salaries and perks add up to over 2 million before a shovel full of dirt is moved.

Well - enough about all that from me. I just got home from the hospital where i had to go yesterday at daybreak because of the fact that I could not get my breath.
Apparently, not only do I have some COPD, but my heart has gone "bonkers" and kicked into high overdrive. Hopefully, the meds will bring things back into order.
At the moment, I feel as if I was run over by a stack train!

Cheers. I will never catch up on the reading!

It's supposed to be 80 degrees this afternoon and I hear 88 or so for the Superbowl.
That should shed some pounds, eh?
Hope everything works out, sure you'll feel better when the meds kick in properly.

I was on a job called the Chatham switcher back in the early 70's. It was a practice then never to have a tanker next to the engine or caboose. The car or cars always had to have a buffer zone. If you knew that you might be bringing back a signal tanker car you took a couple empties with you. Lots of ungated crossing from Brewster, NY to Chatham. Lots of accidents with cars and trucks on these crossing over the years. You did not want a punctured tank car exploding next to the engine. I don't know if other railroads or divisions practiced this. We did.
George

Good afternoon!

Sherrel, I hope you feel better soon.

Dave, I have not received the set yet. I will do my level.best to resist the temptation to open it! My plan is to resell it.
I like the locomotive and the caboose, the other rolling stock, not so much. I'll keep searching for a deal that suits me better.

Thanks Everybody for the kind words about the set.

It took me over 30 minutes to do a simple 25k mile preventive maintenance inspection, an oil change and replace the air filter on our 2016 Chevrolet Sonic. Why so long? It took almost ten minutes for my overworked, broken down hands to remove 2 course thread screws that held the air filter housing closed! No more flat rate mechanical jobs for me!
