I get that question now and then. I currently work for a private company as their Director. I have to keep this vague as I work with various GSAs. My background is in engineering from my college days with a few other credits to my craft and skills 
Primarily I oversee all operations of construction and project/property management for all of my employer's properties and I wear few other hats as well. I have been with this company for 10 years this March. I hope to do another 5 then make a move south. We shall see what life brings.

Recently, the wife found three fraudulent charges in a checking account, she has for her mother's affairs. There is normally only one transaction per month. The bank has conditionally restored the $75, while they investigate the incident.
No credit card or debit card was involved.

Today, was the first day for Covid Vaccinations at "select" CVS pharmacies in Jersey...the wife spent 30" on the computer attempting to schedule an appointment, only to be told there are no appointments available. I'm at the point where I really don't give a damn whether I get one or not. I'm not a anti vaxer, but at the same time, I'm not in a mood to put my life on hold waiting for the damn shot.
Greg - I'll clue you in on a method we use up north to prevent eave ice dams. Just take one of the wife's old nylon stockings and fill it up with ice-melt so you have a 2" sausage about 1' long. Place it on the roof shingles just above the gutter, pointed up-n-down with the slope of the roof. Then walk away. - The technique prevents water from pooling up on the roof.
I like to put a couple of them up there, two on each side of the roof. Works for me!
Suppose I should have explained that the UTLX tank-car photo is not mine. Date of photo is unknown; photographer is unknown. - It has a built date of 9-47 on it, I believe.
Ken: The 40 year rule is for interchange, and is extended when the car is rebuilt. If the tanks were in company service and remained on the home road, there i really no limit how long they can remain in use...Of course at some point they do reach the end of useful life, but I was always amazed at some of the build dates stenciled on company service cars.

Afternoon All,
The outside trashed hot tub was hauled away today (the eyesore is gone). Today in the train room I painted the HO skunks (talk about tiny). They're so small I can't get a clear picture of them. I opened the kit and touched everything and read through the directions. I may do painting next week but I'm going to wait until my brothers leave (here the 20th to 27th) because of having to spread everything out. Based on that I'll continue on the signals. I ballasted some track where the signal bridge will go in for the IR sensor mounting. The grandkids are staying over Saturday night and Sunday will be participating in another lawn camp since our highs are in the 80's (average is 72 F).

Ken- You shouldn't overdo it too much. None of us are getting any younger.
Willie- Jack's looks great. Happy Birthday to the missus.
Lee- Nice rail cars.

Good Afternoon Everyone......sunny but cold and we had a few inches of light snow last night. A second company is coming on Monday to sumbit an estimate to remove the snow from the roof and apply ice melt in the gutters. Cathy has a hard time understanding the damage that a roof ice dam can cause. We also had a small leak around the chimney that I want the roofers to look at and see if repairs can be made as soon as possible.
Puppy sitting today to give Cathy a break from Riley who follows Cathy all around the house and is underfoot too much of the time. The puppy is so devoted to Cathy and it really shows. When I puppy sit, Riley usually sleeps all the time we're alone. I have night duty with Riley and we sleep in the den with her crate is next to my recliner chair. Last night at 3:00 AM she asked to go potty and I left her out of her crate and she returned to lay at my feet sound asleep. I thought that I would leave the light on for a few minutes and then return Riley to her crate. Well, I fell asleep and woke up at 5:00 AM and found that Riley never moved and she was sound sleep.
Weighed the pros and cons of a layout rebuild. Due to the size and configuration of the layout room I should be able to use the existing bench-work. But, I'm having a problem comparing the shortcomings of the current layout with the new value of having a new layout. The layout extension will add a lot to this layout, when and if I ever get started on the work.
Found a fraudulent charge on one of my credit cards. I found the charge when checking the statement. I called the credit card company and they placed a hold on the charge and reissued my card. I use only this card for web model railroading purchases and Amazon. I once belonged to a group of credit card investigators in the Midwest area. After a little research, I found that the charge originated at 12:00 AM from a tiny island nation called Comoros, which is located off the coast of Africa.
I recommend that those who make web purchases use a credit card that is exclusively used for that purpose so if there are fraudulent charges, you can also us another card for "important" needs until the matter is resolved.
Wish I had more to report on the model railroading hobby front.
I think I need to do some more rail fanning to pass the Corvid days along. I know of a good advantage site to watch the CN and WSOR trains near Slinger, Wisconsin. The WSOR and CN lines meet here and the WSOR has trackage rights along the CN until I believe Waukesha, Wisconsin, but I could be mistaken. I was there one nice summer day and stood along the tracks and was a bit too close to the on coming train. I gain a lot of respect for moving trains when they pass by at 45 miles an hour just five feet away!
Of course DuPlainville, Wisconsin is one of my favorite rail fanning locations where the CN and CP cross at a diamond and the WSOR can also be seen. There's other rail action near Sussex where they daily load ore cars with crushed limestone for the iron mills in Indiana and the spurs just down the tracks where they store rolling stock and equipment. Model Railroader's Video Plus did a story on this limestone hauling operation.
Curt: I know what you mean about painting the skunks and their small size. I ordered some castings of pigeons and these will be real task to paint.

It's been a few days (just heard about it today), but RIP Chick Corea. One of the greatest Jazz musicians of all times. He was 79 and died of cancer. I had a chance to briefly meet him and get a selfie with him 5 1/2 years ago in Moab Utah where he and Bela Fleck had a duet concert as part of a music festival. They played one night at the festival and I took my family down to see them as both are amongst my faves. The venue was at a small "resort" up the river there, outddoors. They had a small stage set up, and a small covered area with chairs, and the rest of us just sat or stood outside the covered area. I was sitting at the back corner of the large awning (on the right side of the stage) and I turn around and Chick Corea had just walked up and was standing with me. I exchanged a few pleasantries, and asked if he would do a selfie with me. He said to ask him after the concert, but then a moment later turned to me and said let's do it now, as we may not have a chance to meet afterwards. He was waiting there to go on stage after his introduction, but the MC was droning on about the governor and every other VIP in attendance etc and he (Chick) realized we had enough time to take the selfie and chat a moment. After the concert (I thin it was) my wife was able to meet him as he was walking around the outdoors grass and shake his hand. Really nice guy.

The second pic is from a Chick Corea / Bela Fleck and the Flecktones concert in Salt Lake City about 3 1/2 years ago. At the finale, both groups came out and jammed. Chick is standing there in the middle by the piano.
(Except for Yes, I have more Chick Corea (and his associated acts) CDs/Albums than any other person or group).
The second pic is from a Chick Corea / Bela Fleck and the Flecktones concert in Salt Lake City about 3 1/2 years ago. At the finale, both groups came out and jammed. Chick is standing there in the middle by the piano.

Greg, if the vaccine shows up for both of us, I gladly would join you at those 2 rail fanning spots. I need to get us but not until I have the shots. Very few trains in Madison. Whenever I drive by the WSOR yard it seems to be empty. Around Thanksgiving Terry and I drove into Janesville and the WSOR yard there was fairly empty. Janesville misses the old GM plant. Back then the yard and track there were always hopping.
Chadbag, that’s a heck of a group of musicians the Big Man is collecting this year. Chick Corea, RIP.
James, at least you didn’t say, if I tell you I’d have to kill u. I used to have difficulty describing my last job of 21+ years before retirement

Yup there are 4 of these CATs in this particular building and it powers the entire building and can go off grid if need be. We have quite a few of these setups due to certain requirements for our clients. We are required to test them on a drill/practice each quarter or when certain events arrise where we need to make sure we are ready. The building is 720 k sqft in total. These CATs are up to the task! When they kick in 3 run and 4th one is on stand by all computer controled now.Willie- Happy Birthday to your wife. Happy Birthday Arlene! I'm not gonna make Willie spend extra stuff for your birthday like Sherrel and a few others. that would just be frivolous and silly! Also because Sharon's birthday is Sunday, its a double whammy with the holiday, and I'm cheap.
I did get out to see the Doctor today, who inspected the surgical wound, said he was happy with how it is healing, redressed it and said next Friday the stitches come out then light duty work from then on.
I did get down the basement today, cut off a bunch of details, (grabs,, fans, etc) and replaced them with parts from Tichy, Cannon & Co and others.I want to gets it ready to paint and the decoder installed tomorrow, then maybe fix the 2-8-0s lettering . We'll see.
Word to the wise, ASK what pair to use,,,,,,,,,,,, just saying........

The Caterpillar 3412 Diesel engines – Key specs and highlights
These Caterpillar diesel engines have a power rating in the range of 476 – 551 bkW at 1750 – 2100 rpm, and they are non-certified.
The bore and stroke measure 137/152 mm, with a displacement of 27 liters.
They have a 12-cylinder, 4-stroke cycle with V type, water-cooled engine
In general they put out an average of 720 to 850 horsepower each.....

Guy - do you know if the 8000-gallon UTLX tank car in your photo was in active service when that photo was shot - and if so, what year? I bought 4 of those Tangent models to deliver fuel to my loco terminal, they were supposed to have been built ~1936, so - assuming a 40-year service life - they would be within 3 years of retirement at the end of my modeling era (1969-72).
Curt - I hear ya! Funny thing is, other than my hand getting sore from continuously holding down the drive triggers, I don't really feel like I'm over-exerting myself...at least not the way I did when hand-shoveling the driveway like my son and I did after the mega-storm of February 2010. I just sweat a lot being bundled up for the cold, and don't notice it until I'm back inside.

Didn't get much of a chance to accomplish much mrr work this evening, I had a 30-minute time slot where I was able to apply a few more decals to my F7 shell before I had to begin preparing supper (SWMBO was working late). Then when she got home, we determined it would be better to get our Saturday grocery shopping done tonight instead of waiting until tomorrow, when the store was likely to be crowded with panic shoppers due to the impending ice storm. Last time I checked, the snow showers were supposed to start ~10am; but the NWS keeps moving the start time earlier and earlier. The reason I'm concerned is because my wife is on-call this weekend and she has to be at the practice from 9am to 12noon. A major downside of being in the profession she's in, is that she's often compelled to be away from home during times when treacherous driving conditions start to develop.

Glad to hear that Garry! I immediately thought about you when the Weather Channel was displaying their prediction map for "significant ice" over your region. Does you neighbor know how to start the generator if necessary?
Willie - I had a similar thing happen with the discharge pipe of my sump pump 3 years ago, when we had a prolonged bout of single-digit temps. Then a warm front came up from the south with lots of drenching rain, and in the middle of the night the alarm on my Basement Watchdog [battery-powered backup] pump started going off. Went down and discovered that the water level was climbing steadily higher and getting close to the top, and both pumps were running continuously. It took ~10 minutes for me to figure out that the discharge was choked with ice. If I hadn't heard that alarm when I did, I would've had a flooded basement.
