Good Morning All. Clear and a very chilly (to us) 25°. Last night of freezing or below temperatures in the 10 day forecast. Today will be just 50°, but into the 70's on some of the next few days.

Recovery continues. I made it through the grocery store without any ill effects yesterday, so I guess that the healing is proceeding well. I put the ten pound limit to a test with a 12 pack of beer in bottles, and pushed the cart through the whole store. Whole different crowd there on Sunday morning than I see on my usual Thursday morning trip. Mainly a much younger crowd that didn't linger in the center of the aisles blocking the flow. Our checker person locked up his cash register which held us up while Abdul came over to help him out! That didn't work either, but he was able to print out a receipt with the QR code on it and went over to his register and scanned it successfully. Better than running everything through again. No baggers on duty, so I had already bagged everything myself...the way I wanted it. Got the car gassed up with the $1/gal gas points. BTW, gas all over is at $2.24/gal for regular. Haven't seen that price in a while. Wife had a hankering for a Jersey Mike's sub, so we went there for to go sandwiches.
Did some light indoor chores the rest of the day. We've made the difficult decision not to put up a Christmas tree this year, given the uncertainty of me being able to get into the attic to get the lights/decorations. I have to use a ladder. The actual fake tree and a smaller ceramic one is stored in the back unused bedroom, so I may put up the ceramic one alone. December 15, today, is the usual day that I put it up.

I had to get out to the train shed yesterday to get away from the constant barrage of Christmas music whenever my wife was in the kitchen. Breaks in the football games in the living room were filled with the Hallmark channel. I did do some more figure painting and made a decision to do something just for me for Christmas. I am calling it the "Ten Days of Christmas". Starting yesterday, I am going to introduce a new freight car on to the layout for the next ten days. It's a way to clear up some shelf space under the east side staging yard. Not going to be a difficult task, as most are RTR cars anyway. I started yesterday with an Atlas Master Series boxcar, in the Railbox scheme. But forgetful me left the camera outside and I am not venturing out in my bathrobe to get it. I'm not sure if I have ever had an Atlas Master Series car before, because the first thing that I discovered is that the axles are just .925" long. I wasn't able to use my "truck tuner" because it's too long for the truck. Even with new cars, I use the tuner as part of my pre-deployment procedure. Truck tuner is 1.025" in length which matches standard axle length used on Kadee or Intermountain axles. But the metal wheelsets seem to spin without any issue, so I'll leave it alone. Update later today when I venture outside.

Mac - Nice pictures. The weathering on that Alco truck is perfect!;)
Jim - You're not alone. I constantly find myself running trains when I started out doing scenery, wiring or something else.
Louis - I'll second you on the Utz Pretzels. I keep a container of their pretzel rods handy by the workbench.
Chet - You're correct that many people around here cannot deal with snow on the roads. Part of it is that most places don't have snow removal equipment, so it stays on the roads until melted...re-freezes overnight making it worse. Secondly is all of these transplanted Kalifornians who never see the stuff to begin with.
And yes. Amazon delivers on Sunday all of the time here. Matter of fact, I see a package on the back porch right now that was delivered after dark yesterday, but I ain't getting it until the sun warms things up a bit. I'm surprised that my wife didn't get it when it arrived since she gets a notification on her Fitbit watch as soon as it's scanned as delivered!

My phone is getting barraged by requests from a certain deranged Congresswoman from Dallas for funds for her recently announced Senate campaign. It goes back to the person who had my cell number before I did, a number that she gave up in 2013 according to ATT. She apparently donated to causes in the past which is why my number is on their lists. I have resisted responding with crude messages and just text "STOP" instead, but they seem to be getting more frequent; up to five times a day now; from different phone numbers after I have blocked the original numbers.

Everybody have a great Monday.

Yah, but is worse than Mariah Carey's "All I want for Christmas..."?

Where does it rank on the Whammy Scale? Better or worse than "Last Christmas"?
“Last Christmas” is the worst. It and its various covers.

It also seems to be the national Christmas Song of Japan. It’s what seems to almost always be playing on public (stations, malls, etc)

I’ve not been Whammed yet. Mostly as I’ve not been in my car much and that’s where I listen to the radio. It’s possible when I was in Japan I heard the Wham! version but I wasn’t paying attention.

At 8:20am it was 34F. Now at 8:55am it’s 38F. I need to go for my walk. Was hoping it would be a little warmer. Blue skies. From the bathroom, at least, I don’t see any clouds at all. So sunscreen on my face and full arm and hood sports shirt as I’m of the complexion that gets a sunburn just looking out the window in a sunny day.

One of the weather guessers says high of 49F today. A little colder than it’s been. Tomorrow the same. Then it warms up to kinder upper 60s the rest of the week but starting Wednesday it shows a chance of rain each day.

Oh well.

Good morning all!

Still a cold one out there, but the warm-up begins today. Last night hit -1 for the low but has recovered to 14F above as we speak. High
for today is supposed to get around to the upper 20s. Looks like over the next couple of days we will see the mid 30s and maybe a couple
of 40s. I still haven't put the shorts away yet.

Usual Monday household chores are well in hand and should be completed shortly. Nothing else of interest going on at the moment.

Basketball game is away tonight so travel and dinner out somewhere.

Have a safe day everyone!

I have a bit of a soft spot for that song. Whenever I hear it, I’m reminded of a pretty young lady who once sang it to me in a private performance.

They both hit me like a cartoon anvil dropping from the sky!

I'm hoping to at least get a peek at the Colts game just to see how Rivers makes out.
Did you get a chance to see him?

How about them Texans!
I hear Al Bundy is his new backup QB
God help us.
Me myself are heading to bed. Plowing snow and cleaning off cars takes it out of ya!
How many driveways did you do?
Control your attitude or it will control you.
I could not agree more!
I was really suprised this morning when I got back home and found 2 Amazon packages at my door. Delivery on a Sunday ????
They always have, at least they have for the over nine years I have been contracting for them.

Amazon has even convinced the USPS to deliver for them on Sundays. I'm not privy to all the details but Amazon covers the cost of overtime and more.

While some of you are in a deep freeze, we are having an unusually warm La Nina winter. We haven't had a freeze yet. Crap tons of rain though. We need a good 3-4 days below freezing to knock down the insect population or next Spring is going to be epic.

It's been warm enough that my Spring bulbs are starting to pop up and I was able to pick some roses yesterday.

Yes, I watched quite a bit of the game. In my opinion, he was not to bad considering he hadn't played in 5 years and only 3 days to learn the Colts current system. I think what hurt him the most was he had no zip in his passes. They took too long to get to the receiver. He did improve as the game went on.
The Texans are looking very good. The number 1 defense in the NFL and the offense is finally coming together and giving Stroud a chance to find the open man.

Unveiling of the American Freedom Train No. 1

January 12, 2026 @ 1:00pm

I have an -- interesting-- issue going on with Fleabay and Fecesbook Marketplace. About six weeks ago, I found an item on Marketplace that I could use here, and at a reasonable price. I messaged the seller. Didn't get a response or even whether the message had been received or read. I messaged two more times over the course of a week, with the same results. Since they never responded, I moved on.

A few days ago, I found the same item on Fleabay. It was at a reasonable Buy It Now price, so I bought it. It was local, and was listed as "pick up only". After the sale was confirmed, I sent a message to the seller. No response. I sent a second message to the seller. No response. I then noticed it was the exact same photos, user, and location in both Marketplace and Fleabay.
While I'm sure I'll eventually get a refund if I never can get the item, I'm a little concerned that maybe something happened to the seller. Of course, if something happened to them six weeks ago when I first saw the Marketplace ad, or even longer, since that's just when I found the ad, and not when it was posted, the seller is probably beyond any help at this point...
You might be able to help me with an Ebay problem. In May 2019 I bought a new motor for a lawn mower. It was my first purchase on EB and I had the motor delivered directly to the repair shop, A few days ago a purchased an N scale box car. I got the tracking number yesterday and the delivery address is the lawn mower repair shop. I contacted him and he will hold it for me. My issue is I cannot change the address from the shop to my home. I changed the delivery address the billing address but the default remains the shop. It appears as the address when the account was registered, and I can't change it. Since you recently moved, I'm figuring you must have been able to change addresses. How?

I agree, he lacks arm strength, but he still has a quick release, and he showed he is still a more than competent game manager. His ability to read the defenses was uncanny for a guy who retired four years ago. He almost engineered a big time upset. He gives the Texans something to worry about.

As is appears now the Texans will face the Patriots in New England in the first round, but that could change. Regardless of who the Texans face it will be must watch football if they make the playoffs and I believe they will.

Back from the morning work session. 2 hours 20 minutes of cutting framing pieces. I had a cutting sheet and the framing lumber all laid out for me when I arrived. I had a helper to move materials in but mainly out of my space. The layout owner, his wife and another friend were gluing and nailing the frames together, he has cornered jigs! I came home and they took a break for lunch. Terry just left for her dental cleaning.

Wednesday’s session will see the no-lix peninsula final 2 decks put together. I cut enough this morning for all the needed frames and support pieces. My helper was their 12 year old niece and she was a big helper and she knows the grandson! He’s just soooo nice.

Lunch for me and then another grocery run now that we know the son and girlfriend will be here for Christmas. Tenderloin is on sale but don’t ask me how much per pound but it is lots higher than last year.

Gas the last 5 days has hovered around $2.59 a gallon. I have over $3.00 off per gallon that I can use and keep any unused balance of the gas perks. No perks where we are going this afternoon

Be well

Even the USPS delivers here on Sundays on the rare occasion. Fed-Ex regularly delivers on Sunday, but I never see a UPS truck on Sunday.

I did go through a similar issue, luckily the seller was a fellow MRR that had also just moved, and had to go through the process.
Very deep in your account settings is the default shipping address. You'll need to go to My Ebay, Account settings, Addresses, Shipping Addresses, and Default Shipping Address.

Afternoon all,

Got to reading this morning and got called away before I could post. We're a person short and it has been busy, but Mondays always are.

Sad to hear that the Chiefs QB got hurt, but am glad of the game outcome. Don't care for them and seems they're the only team in the league around here.

Youngest granddaughter went to see Santa on Saturday. They live in a small town where everyone knows everyone. She's 6 and 1/2, going on 15. Anyway, the picture shows her looking at Santa and saying, "I know who you are. You're Ron!" I've met him as he's a friend of the SIL. That's the granddaughter all right.

Wife has her 2nd cataract surgery tomorrow. She's been in glasses since she was 4 and it's bugging her not having them.
