Joe - Yup! Christmas decorations are up until January 6 here as well. Not just Epiphany, but the twelfth day of Christmas.
Actually the 12th day of Christmas is Jan 5. Followed by Epiphany

Christmas decorations to come down after 12th night ie the 6th January.
Before that it is classed as unlucky.

Afternoon All,

Started out the day with a walk at 54F and windy. I spent the morning doing chores then after lunch I headed to the train room and did the wall bracing on the FOS freebee kit, a tire repair kit. It has some really nice details. I decided to start with the free kit since I haven't put together a building kit in over a year. Tomorrow I'm heading down to Orlando to see my group of friends I haven't seen in a while.

Joe- Great looking diesel and cabin car.

Alan- Great job on the brass steamer and the unique (to me) tender. It runs smoothly.

Bill- Nice photo.

David- You're doing a good job. The red row houses look like I've seen on Acorn TV. I don't think it matters what party is in power, they are all self-serving a-holes.

Tod- I am very sorry for your and Maria's loss.

TomO- I had a stretch of months recently with no desire to do anything. Have fun at supper.

Sherrel- I'm glad you're back again. Interesting tender.

Willie- That sounds like a real pain at the store. Nice scenes.

Swal- The ceiling looks very good so far.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Sounds like the dream scenario!

If they purchase this land from you, how close to hustle and bustle will that now put you?
Actually just a few hundred feet. Even if they move the road closer with this acquisition the house will still be a 1/2 mile with trees in between. What the eminent domain will do is take away 4000’ of land on the road 180’ deep. Normal is 90’ and that is what we started to fight. Plus there was no real discussions and we were caught off guard. Solid hardwoods the whole way.

So far our sawmill crew have taken down 300 hardwood trees in 3 weeks and pulled them out of the 180’ area. Until we get notice that the transfer is done we are taking trees off of our property. We have been doing thinning for years and I see no reason to stop but we have accelerated the effort. The attorneys agree there is no agreement until the Town signs off at the next meeting in late January. The plan is to cut until at least the 15th. They have to post the Town agenda a week ahead and finalized 72 hours in advance but we don’t want to push the tree cutting beyond the 15th. There are another 300 oak, walnut and maple trees that are marked for cutting.

Today, I've managed to get TWO emails from Hillsdale College. Never attended. No family member has. BUT I was on a bunch of conservative email lists (Don't worry, I got better)....

Now, they keep selling my contact info to other group's contact lists.

Keep marking them as SPAM

BUT, they're tricky. On their unsub page, you have to check a box that is a complicated reading ... everything above it is check here to get... the unsub is check here to unsub, but it's not worded that way. Takes a minute and a read or two to figure out what they want ...

and it looks like they have multiple email campaigns. The two I got were both mixing politics and religion. I wonder how many more I'm going to have to mark as SPAM in gmail and keep unsubbing from???

I don't unsub, that shows them they have a "live" email. I just block the sender, and anything else they send goes straight to the trash.
I'm beginning to feel nostalgic for the good old days, when all I got was the occasional email from the Nigerian prince.

Christmas decorations: I used to take mine down after the Superbowl. I like watching the lights from the Christmas tree reflecting on my TV screen. Now that the Superbowl is in February we take our decorations down after my wife's birthday, January 31st. She likes it that way. "Happy wife, happy life" 😁 Personally, I don't think anything about Christmas can be associated with bad luck.

Epiphany is another fascinating part of Christmas.

Eastern and Western traditions vary, and both have other variations.

The Twelve Says of Christmas also varies, depending on when you start counting. Some begin the day after Christmas. We start counting on Christmas day in our family.

My God Mother always referred to the Epiphany as "Little Christmas" and she brought gifts!

I have always thought of the night of January 5th as "Epiphany Eve"

How ever you keep Christmas, it's all good to me if you enjoy it.

I did not realize the 12 days of Christmas were actual calendar days, and even if so I thought the preceded Christmas.

Then what is Epiphany? Never even heard of that one.

Willie. Fortunately our troublesome neighbour is not as bad as yours. It is annoying how people come into the village. They do not like this, that and the other. Why come here in the first place without checking the area? We are surrounded on two sides by a huge man-made forest that has timber wagons travelling the roads. They have been up and down the roads since 1960s. He comes along and complains to the Council. He got nowhere with his complaint.

Then he started to complain about the trees in the village. He really alienated himself in wanting the tree on the village green cut down?

Now his house is for sale. Buyer needed urgently, I say.
Nothing like people that move near an airport or a military air base and then complain about the noise.

I grew up near a military airbase. During the cold war era, bombers were taking off and landing throughout
all hours of the day.-----Nobody complained, that was the sound of freedom!

In my Catholic religion, and many other Christian religions, Epiphany (Jan 6) is the day that the Magi, or the Three Kings, showed up and presented gifts to Jesus.
For a more detailed read, see the Wikipedia entry Epiphany
Many people don't realize the visit of the three wise men did not happen instantly. By the time news reached them, and they traveled to meet Jesus, he was a young toddler.

In the meantime, that awful drummer was banging away. Mary really wanted the Frankincense and myrrh -- she needed to offset the scent of 11 day old drummer stench...

And in other news, my booze shipment arrived today. I've got enough on hand to fake some tiki drinks.

That's a Shrunken Skull on the left, and a Painkiller on the right.

Wife doesn't like coconut, so I got the painkiller.

She told me not go out an buy a skull mug. Little does she realize what going Tiki means! Tiki mugs, skull mugs... we gotta get them all!

Just seen the new Scale Trains video and It's not good news for me. The plan on doing the CSX heritage units late 2024. A new 4 axle engine and they are cutting back on ordering extra units from what the pre orders would be. Need some white gold to fall from the sky so I can start a nestegg.

Well since it's been raining we've been doing cleanup in the shop and getting some summer equipment serviced. In Between I've been polishing up the truck. I got the fuel tank, steps, battery box, and the hydraulic control box looking pretty shiny.

I watched it as well. Looks like the long-awaited steamer from MTH will be announced soon too, I was hoping for a mention on some more modern reefers, but I guess I continue to wait for Cryo-trans!

What do you suppose the 4-axle locomotive will be?
