I hear you, I have suffered tinnitus since having covid 3 years ago. I think it can also be symptomatic of stress/hypertension, is certainly worse for me if I'm stressed. Or the classic of too much loud tunes back in the day.
Rain certainly helps. Any white noise or "binaural" music works for me.
Mine started this Spring…suddenly it was there…disturbing at first…used to it now

Good evening. FWIW, tomorrow, is the last Business Day of 2023.

Currently Cloudy, and 51°, going down to 42 by morning. Yesterday's rainfall totaled 0.31", today's rainfall totaled 1.60". It has been a very wet December here, 9.53" of rain measured at the Rutgers University weather station.

We are planning on keeping our decorations up through the end of the Christmas Season on January 6, (Feast of the Epiphany). That would be following family tradition. We still haven't exchanged gifts, nor opened what my youngest son gave us.

We have no real plans for the balance of the year...maybe a hockey game or a football game, or a movie? We will have to go food shopping as we are low on some staples.

This arrived today:
P-42 #161 - 12_28_2023 - JSW.jpg
This is a GE P-42 model of the ones I ran while with Amtrak from 1998 - 2008. Commemorative 50th Anniversary scheme. for Amtrak's 50th Birthday on May 1, 2021. I ordered the engine in August 2021, and received it today.

Rdg # 92834 Rapido Cabin 12_2023 - JSW.jpg
Received this one from Trainworld last week. I have two pre-ordered since 2021, that are still not fulfilled. I do not have a high level of hope that I will ever see them. Sort of another reason why not to pre order. If they do show up. they have different road numbers than my other RDG cabins. (I believe that Rapido shorted the distributor). The details are finer than the others (P2K and Brass), but otherwise, I can live without them.

Went to the club tonight. I installed that decoder in the brass locomotive I bought myself for Christmas. I did one lap around the main line to look for running issues and anything mechanical, shorts, etc. It's a little stiff, but that's normal for a model that's spent its life in the box. This is an early 2-8-0, a branch line engine. I've always liked the SP's whaleback tenders. It passed the run test and is in line for the paint booth behind the passenger cars!

Morning

Nina passed last night bout 1930 with our hands on her.

We got her 5/2005 at 8 or 10 weeks old.

She probably has 150K miles in a truck.

She started going downhill when we were in Texas couple of years ago - some sort of mini stroke where she fell out of the car as back end was not working. Thought we were loosing her then. Called dispatch wanting to take her home as somewhere in the Country was not the place we wanted to leave her. Once home, life was slower for her and she did good up to a week ago. Nother mini stroke we think and she lost smell and brightness in her eyes. She did not appear to be in pain, so we left her to her devices and in our house comfortable. Day after Christmas, nother mini stroke, then there was nobody home. She would walk around the house aimlessly sticking her head in the strangest places and just stand there. Guessed that she could not back up so we would walk around looking for her and get her going again. Called the Vet, Tuesday and he suggested giving it another day or so. They have the whole week off so taking her in for 'the' shot was out of the question.

We are sad/glad it is over for her. What a wonderful dog!

Sorry for your loss. Always sad to hear a family pet crossing Rainbow Bridge.

Good morning from slushy white So. Central Wisconsin. The high today is supposed to be 39 per the WeatherChannel app and if so it should melt anything remaining on the concrete around the house. Up to 5” of unexpected white stuff fell yesterday in the area per the app. My house received around 3, the office almost 4 but the southwest corner of the property just under 1”.

Terry and I during the heavy falling of the white stuff did the “Monday/Tuesday” grocery store run. Did our Pick and Save (kroger) first and the aisles were packed with inventory for the shelves. We then hit up our Hy Vee grocery and what a difference. Staff everywhere putting product away and except for the Cheese cooler and the frozen veggie aisles the place was clean and totally stocked. They were working on those aisles while we were there, 11AM. Mentioned it to the Front End manager how great the place looked. He said every scheduled college student has shown for work since the 22nd per their schedule. He was pretty damn happy as he had 2 at the service counter.

Not sure about today other than the normal Friday vacuuming chores. The lower level of the house is basically my hang out. The train room, my modeling/paint/weathering studio, the cave and golf simulator are all there. I received a Roomba for a present and it is for downstairs. I have it programmed to run everyday except in the area around my workbench. I don’t want it sucking up small parts before I have a chance to look on my hands and knees. But the rest of the house s done with a Shark and is down to about 1 hour. I can handle that.

I tried again to be at the work bench and lasted even less than I did on Wednesday. I might have ran a train for 10 minutes. Went back to the chair and read a real book. Even Terry was surprised when she came down and found me in the cave instead of the train room. I have had modeling funks before but still would run a train or 2. This shall pass!

Dinner is out tonight for the traditional Wisconsin Friday Fish Fry. Terry will do the pan fried Walleye. I will do the fried Haddock or the non traditional and my most favorite meal, Shrimp. Depends on where we go.

enjoy the day

BLIMEY! None of that "white" stuff here - TomO! At the moment it is WOXOF here, but looking for 70f degrees with partly sunny.

( for the uninformed - WOXOF means ceiling indefinite, vertical visibility zero, sky obscured, horizontal visibility zero, fog. In other words, I'm not flying.)
If arriving with these conditions - a holding pattern is in order while dispatch is contacted for an alternate in mind.

TODD - Beautiful pup, so sad to hear that you lost him. Love the large photo!

I think we all get those. I certainly do. Just let it run its course. I find that if I try to force things the work I turn out is crappy anyway. I've also noticed that doing commission work can cause them to be more frequent. As someone once told me years ago, "If you want to mess up a perfectly good hobby, turn it into a business!"
