Welp howdy there internet people, and those with dry socks.

It's Troy again.

Looking ahead, I'm debating on my DCC upgrades

Local guys are all the other brand (Digitrax), and I've got a Powercab from NCE

And Larry Pucket just showcased a system from DCCconcepts-Aegis on his channel. It ties in with a PowerCab, converts it to wireless, and adds 5 amp of power.

Here's the system:

Here's Larry's vid on it:

Pros: I know I'm going to add a 5 watt or bigger booster.
Cons: I don't know what I don't know... so I'm not sure what else to consider.

Thoughts?

Good Morning All. Mostly cloudy and a pleasant 60°F, that's 15.5°C for you David. Could possibly hit 80° later on before a cool font hits tomorrow around dawn. Then we're expecting close to freezing for overnight lows for a couple of days with the highs in the mid-60's.

Yesterday's grocery trek went well other than the carts and pallets of stuff partially blocking all aisles, and no re-stockers to be seen. Most in-store prices seem stable right now except seafood and bread; the biblical "loaves & fishes". Gasoline prices all over town have gone down to an average $2.51/gallon. Regarding the cheaper crude oil prices right now, reports here in Texas where parts of the Strategic Oil Reserves are located, is that the agency involved is having trouble re-filling them after the unwise action to empty them last year. It seems that they cannot refill as fast as they can empty them! It took 10 months to use 200 million gallons, but the infrastructure network can only refill 3 million gallons a month. That's 5.5 years to refill.

I spent a little more time out in the train shed yesterday, all intense painting. I am moving along on the two metal castings of cemetery employees, about halfway there.

Still looking at the stone pillars. Maybe I'll repaint, or maybe I'll just enhance what I already did.
IMG_1064.JPG

It just doesn't seem right to me.
I started also on the Beverly Hillbillies truck. Much more difficult than I had expected.
IMG_1065.JPG

Lots of touch up is still needed. There are things that are not visible to the naked eye that show up in photos.
IMG_1066.JPG

One issue here is that all parts are already attached and I am having more trouble painting behind them, the wheel wells are a good example. The interiors are worse!
IMG_1068.JPG

Fitting a brush in between parts means that some paint gets where I don't want it, so I have started to paint the furthest in first. An unknown has also popped up. What color is the carpet on the floor in the middle seating area? Also, what color were the interior walls? I am thinking black or dark gray for the interior walls. I guess that the carpet wouldn't really matter since probably no one else has seen it!
The truck also seems to have changed somewhat over the life of the series.

I don't think that the last one is of the original truck. But it has been fun along with being challenging along the way. Progress will be slow.

Sherrel - Best wishes to Kate on getting well. Sad also reading about you having to miss your cousins memorial service.
Alan - Really nice job on the passenger cars.

Posthumous birthday's today in the rock world, Greg Allman would have been 76, Jim Morrison of the Doors would have been 80.

Everyone have a fabulous Friday.

Morning - been up for a couple hours waiting on MEL to open the door?
The range for today is from 46 - 67 degrees for this neighborhood with clear, sunny skies.

NICE music there guys -- Some I liked more than others; that's why we have choices - DUH!
TROY - You funny this morning!
You too, TERRY!

Thank you all for the comments of my cousin. One last item there - Jeanette was the last of 5 siblings and she was raised by a single mom who worked as a waitress at a small cafe less than 8 tables. When we visited, my mom (her sister) would always give her a $20 tip! This was a lot as my parents did not have much at that time. How those kids all survived (looking back) is a real miracle - and all of them did well for themselves.

Everyone have an AWESOME DAAY!

Troy, I have been testing DCC systems on the new layout. I have used my NCE Power Cab, NCE PH10-R pro wireless system, digitrack EVOK Evolution Express and TCS‘s CS-105 with throttles. I also owned a ESU cab control 5 amp system

ALL OF THESE have learning curves. I have operated on layouts over the years featuring these systems and since September 2023 have been testing all the above on my layout with the exception being ESU that I sold after hating it for over 3 years in 4/2023.

I found my NCE power cab with the addition of the WIFITRAXX WiFi NCE module I added 4 cell phones as throttles for just $120.00, to be the best value IMOO. Hooking it up to my WiFi network gave me 8 throttles. I doubt you will be lucky enough to have the availability of adding for testing to your layout as I have been. But, really ask around but if you are computer literate you won’t have trouble after a while with any of them. My only suggestion is for many reasons stay away from ESU unless you have a degree in Computer Science

Interesting. I will look into the video and more digging

Good morning from Wisconsin. High today will be mid 50f degrees and calm. Last of the nice temperatures as we start to see 20’s again over the weekend. But thankfully there is nothing white on the ground.

Some time in the cave and at the bench today.

Volleyball was another win last night heading into the regional finals Saturday night. Sure hope they win and we are in Tampa, Florida next weekend for the Final 4.

I have a weathering client that just loves to collect HO scale containers and Intermodal equipment. I know this year alone I have done over 300 of them for him. Tomorrow morning I am heading to his layout, about 40 miles away to run some intermodal equipment

enjoy the day

Morning folks

25 and snowing again. Dumpster down to the county road, wood stove fired up, and a ham, tomato, spinach omelet cooking on the stove. I can probably resume setting out the dumpster the night before as the bears are apparently all finally snoozing. Yesterday's morning rain/snow netted 0.40" in the gauge which was welcome.

I spent a little more time yesterday sorting, inventorying the model railroad debris field. Way more stuff than I'll ever get to-------

It's starting to show. My last order was split, shipped from two locations, Cockeysville, and somewhere called Fremont Nebraska. I also notice their price point is now generally higher than Trainworld's. I guess we all knew that after Ted passed there would be changes. Hattons has a good reputation based on on line comments.

I read on another forum that they're moving warehouse and fulfillment to Nebraska so once Maryland is closed (12/14 or 12/15?) they will operate out of Nebraska
