Good Morning all. Caught these guys in my hometown while Dump Trucking yesterday. This is by the old Readymix plant. I’m so glad to be back home working around here no more worries about driving in the big city with a Semi and putting up with a Narcissist Dispatcher and boss. I’m finally getting treated like a decent person should be. View attachment 158305View attachment 158306
Great picture.

peace at work, glad it’s working out for you

Good Morning All. Right now at 0600 CST, it's cloudy and 42° with light winds out of the SW. Armageddon is supposed to hit in about 2 more hours. 30 mph winds from the north and a rapid drop in temperature that is supposed to drop the temperature to 10° by midnight, and then things level off with the winds abating to 15 mph. Quite cold for us. Things aren't supposed to improve until Saturday about noon when it reaches 32° or above. Mid to upper 60's by Wednesday! Christmas Day it should reach mid-40's; compare that to last year when Christmas Day was 81°. I do see that you guys from the northern reaches will be a lot worse off both temperature-wise and possible snow. Our wind chill factor has been raised to -10°, small consolation!

We generally don't have thermostat differences here. We both agree on optimal temperature between 72° and 75°. Bedroom is a bit cooler so she has an electric blanket on her side of the bed (not always on though) while I wear nature's PJ's. The living room where the wood-burning heater is located, sometimes gets a bit warm, but it is only in the winter and is easily tolerated. I can use the room to room fan mounted in the wall above, to blow excess heat down the hallway and open up some of the unused bedrooms to absorb it.

The grocery store was quite crowded yesterday. I don't know if it was because I went on Wednesday instead of my usual Thursday, or if all the Thursday and Friday shoppers were there yesterday. Bought gasoline, stocked up at the Vitamin Store, bought some supplies at Hobby Lobby, and finally got that plywood that I needed to complete the backdrop. Home Depot was quite crowded as well. I saw a lot of insulation going out the door.

Thanks to all who reacted to the progress scenes posted yesterday. Seemed to all be favorable.

I made the usual progress yesterday out in the train shed. Mainly ground cover.
IMG_2661.JPG

I did more between the tracks on the other end, but no pictures.
I put up the piece of plywood backdrop and measured and marked where I need to cut it, but that won't happen until next week when it warms up. Not really much to show here, sorry Ken.

After viewing several reports regarding the train/truck collision in Tennessee, it appears that the NS employees came away with only minor injuries thankfully. The truck apparently got caught by a red light and had just started forward again. I think that all the comments here about the safety team are right on. Somebody's insurance company is going to be really pissed.
Lee - Good to see you back in the Coffee Shop, and glad that you're still healthy. I have missed your trucking related scenes all across the forum.
Joe - Glad that the recovery is going as planned. Don't worry though about the lack of a shower, it wasn't bothering me!;)
Swal - You posted that your wife was settled in at home, but how is she doing with the recovery???

It's now 0700 and the wind just hit. It is ferocious. It dropped 5° in under a minute and will go down a lot more.

Todd - Nice scenes, I am so glad that it is your homestead and not mine!
Tom O - While I normally keep a good stock of Exacto blades, I also have a whetstone that I occasionally use to prolong usage.
David - Willis from NS hasn't been seen here in just over three years. He's still listed as a moderator though.

OK, 45 minutes after it hit, the temperature is now 24°, an 18° drop in 45 minutes.
See ya later. Everybody have a great day. Stay warm and be careful out there.

Good morning from So. Central Wisconsin where over night (midnight to 7am) we received maybe 1” instead of the “possible” 6-9” of the white stuff. But the winds are mild at 12 mph now but going to the 50’s +. If that happens it will get bad. Because we had about 10” on the ground already the 50 mph winds will strip that off moving it around. Per Terry’s commentary from the TV weather guy the roads are slick, not bad but slow down.

15f degrees now at 8am. The wake up at 6 it was 20. Around noon it will be +4. Winter has arrived.

Except for the normal Friday cleaning routines tomorrow and some last minute minor food decisions we are ready for the open house on the 24th.

enjoy the day

Good morning. Temperature has risen from 23° to the current 38°. Rain will start around 1300. Temperatures will rise to the 50s, when the wind swings over to the East. Ocean temperature is still warm, but that will save us from the snow they will get inland.

Need to make a quick run to the Post Office and Pet Smart, hopefully, before the rain.

Welcome back Shirley! ;) Missed ya!

Thank you for bringing some light to the darkest day of the year, I missed you!
AND Thank you for that LOUIS! Seriously, I have really missed everyone here also!
Yesterday, I managed to spend almost three hours "fussing" with this MAC. I love it - although it is driving me to the nut house even faster than I was headed before. I still have nt taken the time to LEARN even the basics.

Things are breaking here at the homestead about as fast as the spouse and I can keep up with the replacements.
New water heater last week - As it sits on a pedestal in the corner of the garage - I just no longer have the energy and muscle to move to - so, my "building buddy" next door (who is going downhill faster than I am with many problems) knew of a plumber who came and replaced. - It was the best $300 I have spent - a little over 2 hours and he was done.

The Spousal Unit had her MAC AIR screen go out and I took it to a "repair shop" - cost $350 and worked a week then quit again being dark down the side. Repair shop said she must have dropped it which was BS.
Long story short - She went to the Apple Store to see if they could repair it and instead came hone with a NEW one. Christ, we are burning through cash like there is no tomorrow.

BUT WAIT -- There's more! However, I will save it for another day.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

sherrel welcome back. Don’t worrying about burning through the cash, that’s a next year problem.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing!

Well, howdy there internet people, and those happy to see Sherril again (I'm gonna spell his name differently until he adds it back to his sig line so I can cheat and look to spell it correctly.)

It's Troy again.

Finally got the Big Magic in this book figured out, and I might be able to finish by the deadline (Jan 9).

Flaming ghost ships up near NS, Canada!

Made one more trip to the grocery this morning. Yes, I have enough whiskey to get through the weekend. But not enough yogurt, nor half-n-half. I decided to switch back to dairy creamer after the oat-milk got my insides all twisted up. Even the cat was looking at me like "I didn't do that, so don't blame me for your odors..."

Weather Guessers say NE Indiana may miss the worst of the lake effect snow, but we'll still have frigid wind gusts up to 60mph by tomorrow afternoon. Hoping the powerlines are up for it.

No idea if Daughter and potential future Son-in-law are coming up for Christmas eve as previously planned. The winter storm may impact their potential travel. And, they have a kitty that will probably get put down soon. My guess is Friday if they can actually make it to the vet. The poor one-eyed thing lived five years longer than they thought it would. It had all sorts of problems. And now it's jaundiced.

Daughter is a huge softy when it comes to animals, so she may need some time to cope with losing another cat. Most of hers are in advanced years, or have medical issues (like this one) that have the vets amazed they've hung on this long.

I just put a job on the resin printer. Making some scenery to go with my Dwarves for the game I play. I'll post a pic later once it's high enough out of the vat to make sense of what it is. Looks like a 7 hour print job.

Here are the dwarves. I need to prime them today. Working on a Zenithal highlight (Black overall undercoat, followed by a white, top down at no more than 45°, top coat). Over that, I'll use the Speed paints that are translucent and allow the tones from underneath to come through. So shadows look shadowy, and highlights lighter.

That's it for now.

Ya they are drumming it up....

I am in Washington county.....only thing that concerns me is the wind gust up to 60 mph......not a fan of that. No flooding in my area even though I am on the Champlain Canal but I am on very high ground in my area.

I will be leaving the office early today to grab a few things on the way home from the grocery store and hardware store (sand & salt) and working from home tomorrow.

I hope everyone else fair well this coming weekend. I will be burning wood and working in the train room this weekend along with the spending time with family.

Ya'll have a good day! I will check in later!

Good morning, just in from shoveling - too cold for snow blower to start at -10 F with -27F wind chill. Wind just started blowing about an hour ago, got the preliminary shoveling done will go out later and finish...

Sun is out, however, also fire is going, I have today and tomorrow off. I thought we were supposed to have snow and wind, however snow is over for now we got about 7-8" so that forecast (guess) was actually correct

12.22.2022 back yard.JPG

here is my familiar scene, what looks like a tent in the background is a small pine tree with just the top sticking out. The tree is about 8 feet tall.

James - appears like you are going to have it worse than us

Todd - your homesite is beautiful. Nice big train shed!

Sherrel - I did not put two and two together but now get it with the pooch avatar

Thermostat - we pretty much agree. However, I like the shades up at night so moon shines in whereas wife wants it dark, I asked her to buy herself a mask. She did not like the mask so we compromise some nights and other nights I get my way.

Willie - I like the buy/sell building and the scene you created there

WILL be working on projects today, usually don't like to break away and post I like to stay on the mainline track and not take any sidings or spurs when doing the layout, however is a bummer to try to catch up on several pages...

Good morning, everyone!

As I speak, it's -38F outside. This is what -38F looks like, with the photo taken a few moments ago, while I was plugging in the truck:
-40cWinter_12-2022.JPG

Around here, it's not unusual to get down into the -40's. It is unusual to see a Robin still hanging around.
-40cWinter_12-2022 (1).JPG

I don't know why this Robin didn't fly south with it's friends. Needless to say, if it stays here it will die once the food runs out. The bird is trying to eat those ornamental crab apples that are still available on the tree.

I've not been around for a while, preferring to just lurk while we have gone through some illness difficulties. The wife had covid, I had the flu, followed by a cold for both. Everything seems to be healing-up now. Just in the nick of time for Christmas.

Nothing was done on my layout while we were ill.

Glad to see Sherrel posting again. I'm hoping a bright future for you sir. Although, I don't know how you can stand the heat, being 110 degrees warmer than us.

Update on the bathroom reno. Both plumbers and contractors won't return my many calls, so I'm doing it all myself. I'm happy about that, and it means the fight with the wife was for nothing. Remember, we fought over who it would be, me or a contractor.
The main bathroom is all tore up right now. I'm working away at it, but it's going to seriously cut into layout and posting time here. This is an expensive, warm winter project.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas. Be careful, be safe, and have a joyous Christmas to all!

Y'all can keep that snow to yourselves. Here it has settled just a bit! Wind is now averaging 20 mph after a few hours at 30+ mph, still frigid from the north. Temperature has settled at a cold for us at 14°, still expecting 10° overnight. There's a few snow flurries that were not in the forecast, but they're not even collecting anywhere. We might actually get a bit of sunshine later this afternoon. Wood burning stove is keeping things quite comfortable at 80° in the living room where it is located, and 71° in the far bedroom. I have enough wood inside yesterday to last until sundown tomorrow, maybe longer if the wind stops soon. I had to go out earlier when I remembered that I had left beer in the car...it's plenty cold. Out in the train shed, it's 62°. That's better than it used to get until I got that new heater about a month ago.
Dave B - I guess that you, Todd and Guy just get used to having snow up to the knees and temperatures below 0°. Just not for me. I'll take 100° any day. Looking forward to the 60's next week!:)

Well, after bottoming out at -5° we're back to a balmy -4°. We went under a couple of snow squall warnings, which is highly unusual for this area. New snow has finally stopped, but it is blowing the stuff we got around. I did have to go out in it as the Police Department had a couple of machines want to goof off, of course on a court day. Our municipal court and police department are in the same building across town. I try to avoid that building as it's usually a zoo...think people of Wal-Mart zoo. And as it turns out the boss scheduled the day off, one of my techs is sick and the other stayed home due to a power outage. Fortunately I'm out at 1:00p until Tuesday (unless I get called back by PD or Fire for issues that can't wait). It has been quiet otherwise as a number of people are out.

Good morning, all. We are awaiting the big chill. Weather guessers have us reaching 62 this afternoon, and then dropping like the proverbial rock to 19. I have a few last-minute preparations to make but should be done. ERCOT says the grid will hold.

Thermostat - Conductress controlled. Enough said.

Christmas - the family is coming to the hobo camp. Everyone brings their gifts, placing them under the tree. Then Santa, along with an elf or two hands out all the presents. Then an unwrapping frenzy takes place with the little ones and the dog buried in wrapping paper and boxes. I love sitting back and watching the faces has presents are opened. Silly, great grandpa knows how to play dolls.

Sherrell - Happy to see you found your way back to the diner.
Willie - if you would, please hold the cold weather at your place.
Guy - just thinking, at 19, I'll still be warmer than you. Hope your bathroom project comes out the way you want.
Dave - if Houston got that kind of snow the whole place would come to screeching halt. I'm not sure you could find a snowplow anywhere.
Lee - nice photos, welcome back.
Chad - Thank you for taking us on vacation with you. You certainly visited some different and interesting places.

Railroad - I've been working on another Showcase Miniature. This one is O. H. Wright Co. It is coming along. I must say here though, that the directions leave a lot to be desired. I had to re-do a couple of places because the instructions were poor.
