JOE, I have a running battle over the thermostat with the spouse -- her at 72 degrees, and me at 78 degrees!

CURT, You could not have said it any better about Hanoi Fonda!
The last 10 years the thermostat battle has reversed. She is always warm, I am cold. The house though is kept at 72f degree with no wind chill. 76 in the Warm months

It's already 07:45 AM in France. So...

Good evening. I was watching the 6pm evening news only for the weather. That was a good thing as it seems to be the only story the local station was covering anyway.

As predicted everything ended at sunset tonight as the snow moved in and the winds picked up. Don’t drive, don’t walk, be ready to dig out, blah, blah, blah… The thing is sunset was at 4:26PM, almost 3 hours ago. The wind hasn’t picked up and the snow is not here yet. The news I was watching was a live up to the minute broadcast. Maybe they should have gone outside?

The alarmist reports have always bothered me. I understand we are going to get clobbered and that some of the family may not get here. I believe that. Our County and local road crews are tremendous, but I’m not driving tomorrow. Terry and I hit the grocery stores for last minute baking and food items this afternoon. We didn’t need more water, toilet paper, milk, bread and other essentials. We have a good stock. She did need eggs though. The milk was almost gone as were all the brand name breads but the bakery bread stuff was available. We checked on our order for Saturday and asked them to let us know if issues develop. I can bake dinner rolls and bread if needed. Ok, we then got extra eggs at $4.99 grade A large, that Terry tells me in October we’re $1.49. The sign on the egg cooler says the price increases are because of the Avian Flu. Those chickens need to be wearing the masks.

I hit the LHS today because my normal Thursday run is cancelled due to the incoming blizzard. I did well, except he has to order the #11, 17 and 18 Xacto brand blades for me. Seems Xacto has been having supply chain issues for about 2 years now. I have a brand of #11 and #17 blades that are terrible. Just a few slides with the blades on styrene and the edge is gone. The brand name escapes me as I type this. He also was out of Excel blades. I do have scalpel handles and the scalpel blades to fit but even though I have them, they are scary to use. One slip, that’s all…

The paint booth is in and the compressor is hooked up. I did test it for a few minutes today. The issue is, it is 3 miles from our house and we are staying here till the 1/5 closing. I am going to work on a couple pieces of my own weathering to completion before moving on to more items. I have no current client projects for rolling stock weathering. I don’t need to be efficient, I need to be able to keep busy. I have unpacked the scratch building supply’s, the tools and had the daughter bring over the bins with my Evergreen styrene rods, ankles and sheets. I have more Evergreen then my LHS and that is the honest truth. i do buy it all through him though. I will be building facades for a large 52” long brewery (.060 plain styrene and custom windows) a plant facade similar to the closed Oscar Meyer plant in Madison, Wi.(.040 styrene and brick sheet from the daughters’ laser cutter), a large modern cold storage facility ( laser sheets maybe) and a new biomass plant ( Evergreen corrugated siding). The new biomass will only be about 90’ tall as the last one ( picture below) felt out of scale on the layout. I believe I finally figured out that the height was wrong.

That’s 130’ high. That is the 3rd, 4th or 5th attempt at the biomass plant. Never got it right.

Some Christmas cheer

Ok i am off to do a Christmas test run on home made cheese crackers, never tried this before wish me luck, yes success or failure there will be photographs, it’s a family celebration today so it might get a bit out of hand, although calories will need to be counted.
technically these crackers should last until Boxing Day…..the photographs will give an indication lol.

I have some Xmas layout pictures ready….and yes it will be cameos, film,tv series,I suspect someone will guess what will top my list lol, catch you later guys have a good day,

oh we have so far missed the snow this winter, the deluge of rain, the strong winds, and not too much frost or ice althings considered although the water troughs did get like 4 inches so I suppose it’s a matter of opinion, but the new woodburners are working out, we luckily got our orders in before they had so many orders they had to say no more deliveries until the new year (THAT would have been a disaster)

Today was an “off” day. We got up a little late and went to breakfast (no pic as it was basically identical to the day before). Got back to the room and while I showered and got ready everyone else finished packing. Checkout was 12 noon. We left our stuff at the bell desk for safe keeping and went to the neighboring mall called “Aqua City” so my son could get something he had seen on a previous day he wanted to get (some sort of bag or pouch). Daughter and mom looked at various thing they had missed before and then we wandered over to another bigger mall we hadn’t explored as well previously that is about 10 min away. “Diver City”. The one with the big Gundam.

We wandered around multiple levels looking at stuff. Someone probably bought something. The important thing was lunch. Around 3pm we went to the food court. I went to the same Indian Curry place I had been to a few days previously and this time got the traditional chicken curries and nan bread.

We then started to walk back to the hotel and there was this pretty cool sunset we hit the tail end of.

We got to the hotel and retrieved our bags (and huge collection of claw machine stuffed animals) and walked back to the station and rode the auto piloted no driver train (the one without rails) to the end of the line (on the opposite end from where we usually get it). From there we had a half mile walk (10-15 min) to the next hotel. It claims to be 3.5 star but I’d say more like 3 star. The staff was nice enough but it is no where near the 4.5 star Hilton we were just at. We’ll see how breakfast is. They do have a coin laundry and so the wife has been doing laundry while I read my phone and took a nap. It’s 9pm now and 47F and I’m going down to 7/11 to get “dinner” and then we’ll head to bed.

It rained a little today but was more overcast than wet.

Wife’s sister in Kobe wants us to come back on Saturday as long as we don’t have fever (and none of us has had a fever that we know or realize — the other sister in Yokohama had the fever). So we’ll see if we’re in Nagasaki or Kobe for Christmas. I still want to go to Nagasaki but maybe one night instead of two and next week.

We do have minor sore throats and occasional coughs. We’ll see what they decide by tomorrrow evening (as we have to cancel by then to get a refund on the Nagasaki hotel).

interesting. Having grown up in New England and having spent the last 20 years in Utah I’m quite acclimated to the cold. As I’ve gotten older I’ve become a little more sensitive and we have a winter (because I’m cheap) thermostat setting of 68F the last two years instead of the prior years 66F and we’re trying to figure out a year round temp for the new house with heat pump (72F or so) but she is always cold and wants blankets and heat up no matter how hot. Of course she was born and raised in sub tropical Japan (and she has two X chromosomes) so this is to be expected.

It even she has partly acclimated to being colder as the hotels we’ve been in over here are all set to mid 70s to low 80s and even she has been mentioning how hot it is.

Morning all,
We are currently out of degrees so we don't have a temperature, Right? 😆

Currently 0° with gusty north winds and a heavy snow band coming. Wind chill of -22. I left early and got here in 45 minutes instead of the usual 35. There a a rough coating of ice on many spots. While it was cold, the wind really didn't hit until I was nearly at work I have the wife's Equinox as it is a bit better than the truck due to front wheel vs. rear wheel drive.

I leave a bit earlier today as I have time straight time overtime from the Monday meeting (supposed to work 32 hours with an 8 hour holiday).

Just looked outside and the snow band has hit. Can't hardly see across the parking lot. It should be done by the time I leave today.
I'll try to BBL.

Good Morning all. Caught these guys in my hometown while Dump Trucking yesterday. This is by the old Readymix plant. I’m so glad to be back home working around here no more worries about driving in the big city with a Semi and putting up with a Narcissist Dispatcher and boss. I’m finally getting treated like a decent person should be.
