So for hearing protection, we try to use subsonic loads whenever we can. But for battle, a silencer is actually better for a sniper when used with supersonic ammo because the sonic crack is perceived as coming from the bullet path, not from the muzzle...

i was going to say the same thing. Sound suppressors (aka silencers) have their place even when shooting high velocity non sub sonic ammo. It still hides the report of the blast to an extent and the crack of the supersonic flight path appears to not come from the shooter. It is heard differently depending on where the hearer is in relation to the flight path.

We’re in Yokohama. Came up yesterday (Thursday) on the Shinkansen bullet train. Unfortunately I did t get a picture of it. It was an N700. My sister in law took us to this fancy and expensive Japanese grilling restaurant (they gave a gas grill built into the table and have various meats etc for you to cook and eat). I took a few pics I’ll post later. It was awesome ad I’m sure very expensive.

today we were supposed to go to Tokyo with my wife’s sister to the LDS Temple there. I wasn’t feeling great as I slept bad last night so I spent the day at the hotel trying to sleep. The rest did go as planned and I’m to meet them tonight. I’m up and going to shower and head off. I’m feeling better than I was earlier today. If I can get enough reasonable sleep I’m fine but if not the coughs and stuff hit me.

anyway, I’ll check in later.

Welp, tomorra is the start of my 71st orbit. Suspect that I will not be around until Saturday as Wife and Daughter's squeeze have plans for me which probably will include food and booze in different locations...Not a geographical drunk like the old days cuz all the places we seem to frequent are less than a mile apart. I do have to be at the VFW for the DSO about 11, so nothing happens until after that. Don't worry as I only have 2 drinks/beers - the 1st one and the Last one; and on top of that - my Type II is magically going to go away for a bit.
Happy Birthday Todd!

Chadbag Everything else is required to have a muffler/supressor on them so why shouldn't we shooters be able to enjoy a much quieter shooting experience as well as protecting our hearing ?!

My neighbor shot his high powered rifle once without a Supressor and several times with one and what a difference ! It sounded like a subdued pop rather than the normal very loud crack !

Hobby shops here in NY have been dropping like flys as of late.
Back in the early seventy around 44 St just up from Grand Cental there were about 8 model train shops all in a row. One at a time they started closing until there was just one left Caboose Hubbies. I'm not sure that's even there anymore. In Westchester & Putnam counties I can't think of one hobby shop. There's none, they all closed. The big model train store in Poughkeepsie closed about 15 years ago. There's one hobby shop that sells some train stuff in Pougkeepsie NY and one small model train store in Brookfield CT mostly all 3 rail O gauge. When I go there, I remind them you're the only model train store left for miles and miles.

Good morning. Yesterdays mega white falling from the sky event was not MEGA! We got just over 4” of wet white stuff and the temperatures reached the high of 32f degrees early and stayed that way till midnight when it dropped into the 20’s. Overnight we received about 1/2” is what it looks to me but the wind chill is at +11f degrees. 24 real degrees now with the high being 26. It’s pretty.

SIL turned 42 yesterday and the gift he was most thrilled about was Terry found 3 bags of different smoking chip flavors for when he smokes meats and fish. Which seems like weekly to me. 20# each bags somewhere on Amazon and said he would take more for Christmas. Terry said let your wife or your parents get them we have your Christmas presents packed already.

Some last minute remodeling stuff to get done before the 19th at our offices going to be temporarily our living quarters. I am still digesting yesterdays disappointing late meeting with the folks going to build the house, 4 horse stable and covered arena. I think it’s why I am typing and not rehabbing the knee right now. I am still upset. I don’t want the stables within 500’ feet of the house, further like 1000’ would be better but 500’ is my minimum, not negotiable. I made it very clear to the 3 who showed up to meet with Terry and I if they cannot follow a simple thing like that, they will not get to build anything. The house orientation was also wrong for solar. They did not have the plans for a 50 meter lap pool or the train room attached to the arena. The explanation started to be Terry didn’t specify those things. I then had had enough. I reminded them I held the design meeting describing the pool, the distance from the house and possible train room. They knew the house would be off grid. I will be writing the check, none of them. All of them were at that meeting including Terry and their boss. Terry also told them to drop the size of the house to the 2100 sq feet we designed not the suddenly 2900 that showed up on the plans. We both can read plans. I ended the meeting. Actually I’d be fine at 2900 but Terry and I have gone over this for months and she wanted under 2000 and we settled at 2100. She wanted 2 bedrooms and an office. That was in the design. They gave us 3 and a huge office and larger family room. It’s like no one listened at the design meeting back in October. Neither one of us care that the house is smaller then the neighborhood housing around the property. We are nowhere near any neighbors by design.

Going for a walk in the pool for the knee. Hopefully I will be calmer afterwards.

Morning all,

Going out this afternoon as the wife wants to put some Christmas flowers on her parents gravesite. It's been awhile since we've been out there so it's as good a time as any. She also wants to drop some toys our grandkids outgrew at her brother's house to give to his grandkids who are younger than ours and will get some use out of them. Otherwise not much else going on yet.

Laters...

My father was an architect by profession, he always made detailed notes of the customer's requirements and would have them typed up and the customer had to sign off on what had been discussed, before he even sharpened a pencil.

Always made two or three overlays of the building so he could also show his clients the basic build as discussed, and then what was possible or anything he thought would enhance the building, also spent time with the client getting to know them so he often would come up with designs that incorporated his clients interests and often improving on their original plan.

I think you would have liked my old man.
