Good Morning Again. That was quick, the thunderstorm lasted all of 30 minutes. The sky is clear, but the sun is still hidden by the storm clouds that moved east. The neighboring Weather Underground station is off-line right now, but my gauge has 0.5" in it. But the rain was coming down sideways so who really knows. The weather people think that there were tornadoes about 40 miles away.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I did more ballasting. I completed the passing siding and did half of the tail track on the north side of the Ethanol refinery. I did some other stuff, but mainly ran trains through the area to test the track after the ballasting. No noticeable issues, but there is plenty more to finish up.
Over on the workbench, I started a side project to the refinery. I had acquired some used discontinued Walther's Fermentation Tanks that I wanted to use as part of this scene. The original modeler, who was not the one that I got them from, did the most outrageous job assembling them. But with a little effort, I can fix them.

They are so badly done that he put a liner inside each one, also badly done, to disguise the cracks and voids.

I started by removing the tops and the liner.View attachment 157691
I sanded the glue seepage and rough spots, and filled in the voids with Testor's Putty.

Going back today with the fine sandpaper before painting them white which they should be any way. This one took about 15 minutes. One reason for taking the tops off, is so I can orient them with the best sides facing the aisle and having the tops correctly lined up for piping and walkways.
I knew that these were in bad shape before I got them, but I felt that I could fix them. The price was right.

Hughie - That Val-U Fuels and Oils is quite an interesting structure.

Everybody have a great day. I need to go outside to see if I have any wind damage.
Willie you do more railroad modeling in a day than I do in a year ! I envy you a bit. :D

Dave, unless it’s built in an out laying building it maybe a year or 2 till the house is moved into. I have no plans in our temporary quarters to build a layout. The paint booth, a work space for weathering and programming but no layout.

I enjoy building the frame work. I love the ground cover and landscaping portions. I really got into building the track but even though all the rail is being saved, I am not sure I want to glue rail to Central Valley ties strips again. I absolutely do not want to spike rail.

I have looked into joining a local club to run trains, but I don’t think so. They are modular and not what I am looking for. Alan on the forum belongs to a club in Milwaukee that has an awesome layout but at 80 miles one way, that’s out to. The guys who hold operating sessions, and there are many in a 50 mile radius, only use their own equipment. They also rarely run the layout between sessions. I have another RR buddy 2 miles away now with the same problem with my layout down. I had no issue with visiting equipment, with DC or DCC.

Terry does want a covered arena to be able to ride in bad weather. Expressed that again this morning! If I built the train room attaching it to the under construction stables and add the arena that would speed things up. The problem with that is it’s going to be away from the house. I often now just walk in the train room and operate for 15 minutes or doing something quick at the bench.

thinking
I can see that being a headache, could you perhaps build the layout as you suggest next to the arena, and have a space in the house for your weathering etc. I know it means splitting your work area, but I'm sure you could make it work for you.

Afternoon All,

I'm Back! For better or worse:eek:. MOH, bless her heart was able to get everything transferred over to this computer. :) Today I did several chores and supplied MOH with various pieces of info during setup. Tomorrow Dad has a cardiologist appointment mid-day and on Thursday I'm going up to Jon's again, this time to pick up my repaired Sharks. He offered to take them off my hands if I wanted:D.

There's been some great modeling and 1:1 photo's since my computer issues started.

Patrick- Sounds like a fun time but that flight is a killer. I did it several times during the 90's. My longest flight was from Manila-Narita-Honolulu-LA- Kansas City- Pittsburgh.

Jeff- Congrats to your daughter. Very impressive.

TomO- Sounds like a fun trip.

Willie- Great progress on your layout.

Hughie- Great build.

I hope everyone has a good night.

I just had a big argument with the rehabilitation center my wife's in. They told me that when she able to walk 150 feet and go up 4 stairs she can leave. So she's done that for 4 days now. I told them she's completed her requirements I'm taken her home today. They told me no maybe in a week or so. I said, I'm calling my congressman to find out why she can't be discharged. They did a little scurrying around and said, OK she can leave but it will have to be tomorrow at 11am. I agreed to 11am tomorrow. I just wonder if it's the $2,000 a day they receive from our insurance company their losing on her being home instead of there?

Rehab, hospital, clinic, whatever, no one can force a patient to stay there. A demand from a person of sound mind to the physician in charge is all that it takes; they have to let the person go. The "walk 150 feet" and "go up 4 stairs" is BS as well. That is just their guidelines. They don't want to lose the income. Be mindful though, that your insurance may refuse further payments regarding the incident if one doesn't stay. Check it out.

As Willie say's check with your insurance before you bring her home, if you force the issue with the Hospital, your Insurer may have a problem with that, there may well be a clause somewhere that says if she walks out without the approval of the Dr they won't pay up and you have to re-imburse the Insurance company, on the grounds she discharged herself, and that invalidates you insurance.

Been coughing more. Don’t sleep that well recently. So today is a down day for me. Don’t know what the family is doing but I’ll be napping and stuff. I’ve had this low grade cold for a while now (several days before we left). It’s not Covid. Besides a couple of the at home rapid tests over a few days I had to get a lab done test in order to enter Japan. I think I got RSV from the daughter and am just having a slow time getting rid of it. Lack of sleep is not making it easier.

no other real symptoms. Just a mostly dry cough and when tired a head ache.

My sister who has been a nurse practitioner for almost her whole life told me it's more about the money than anything else. They hate to discharge a patient who's low maintenace and pays the $124.00 perday copay.

Well howdy, there sleepyheads,

It's Troy again.

Evidently, I have cold. Fluid in the ear still around. Doc said it wasn't infected, and told me my post-nasal drip, combined with the start of a cold and flying all collided for the earache. Last night it hung around enough to fill my ear up when I lay down. So into the recliner I went to sleep.

wife is a day or two behind me on the same symptoms. But, she wanted Italian food from the local place. We went and got a gift card for the girl who pet sat for us. We asked said girl where she and hubby ate, implying gift cards were incoming. Her answer was to ignore the url for the place, and sent me to the local Chinese place: Han Dynsaty

Yes, they have thehandynatsty(dot)com

If you didn't see it, put a space in the URL the handy natsty (dot)com

Wife and I don't eat Chinese food, but we're both refering to the place as the The Handy Nasty.

Something very strange just happened. I was working on a project when a piece fell on the floor and when I looked down believe it or not it was there. That never happens. I usually spend 10 minutes looking for it. An exacta knife rolled off my desk one day and I never found it. It's still missing I guess with my dremel tool some where.

Welcome back, Mel has a low carb unadvertised menu for us diabetics here in the diner.
Those cars look great, the trucks are superb
I made pizza! 4 whole eggs 37g coconut flour one teaspoon baking powder
mix cooked in griddle quartered flipped
added low carb tomato paste, olives, touch chilli, mozzarella cheese, found husband had scoffed the meat for it not deterred added extra herbs
finished on plate in oven,
gorgeous all the way

may have to hide sausage next time I consider a pizza, husband claims he can lose weight but he has no will power over what he finds in the fridge, and it almost met his carnivore diet…piggy pig.

will try to add photo next time so Mel can make it,

Wanna hear something funny?

With the exception of a Bowser Western Maryland "hammerhead" RS3 (due out next year) I plan on buying NO more locomotives for the rest of my days.

Seriously,

Stop laughing!
We want it in writing, triplicate with it signed and witnesses IF you buy anything else YOU have to give each of us….hmmm this must be doable…..give the value of any said additional locos divided by us witnesses….please like here to be included, an equal percentage of the value, either to our bank accounts or a charity of choice - our choice not yours and your back up bank account….l

so handwritten, signed, dated, witnessed (we will accept a wife signature) photograph, displayed in coffee shop,
last laugh…..

Jeepers creepers, you don't want much do ya? How about I have my lawyer call your lawyers and they can hammer out the details? 😄😆😃😉

Morning all,

29° and clear today, high of 38°. Not supposed to get above 40°ish the remainder of the next 7 days. No white Christmas, but we typically don't have them anyway. Not much yet this morning. We have our employee quarterly lunch today. they shut the city offices down for 2 hours so everyone can participate. I usually eat, attend the little awards ceremony and got run a couple of errands. I don't usually get the atta boy awards as they typically think everything I do is my job and nothing "above and beyond", regardless of how much I save the city in time and funds. Cie la vie as our friend Christian would say. Food at these is usually pretty decent.

Morning all from the winter wonderland

Started with ice at 3 am now snow, temp 32. Not going to work today, not a car on the road,

Chad - hope you get over it soon

Swal - that money motive makes to many of the decisions for us

Patrick - we have enough winter wonderland for both of us

Since I will be home all day shovelling and being baffled with the wifes routine will be working in the train room. There is an upside to many things!

This is what we are looking at at present:
