Good evening gang!

I see the paint is different, but Mel's food still smells the same. Yes it's been awhile.

Glad to see familiar faces again, I pray everyone has been doing well.

Been distracted by a bunch of things of late. The little red truck (my toy) 1:64 scale diecast racing, (new hobby), employment requirements , yard work, and frequent trips to the Doctor. Now it's too cold to play in the garage, the race cars have been modified and sent to California to compete, the job is the job and both doctors are going to leave me alone til the end of January (they say). Time to spend more time in the basement. Not only do I have the layout to build, but also a dozen engines that need paint and detail work to get out of the "undec" state. I'll work on it until next summer when the little red truck gets it's new engine (5.3 V8) and the yard gets crazy again.

This is the little $300.00 pickup, out in the sunlight for the 1st time last weekend. She gets "Historic" plates next month, so it will be exempt from state emissions testing! New Tonneau cover and window tint are in the works also, just like her 4x4 brother.View attachment 157599
Son #4 has absconded with this one!
Now these 1:64 die cast race cars are another story. Yes, for the most part these are modified Hot Wheels® cars, but also from other makes as well.
Here are 2 I did with Greenlight® cars but with Hot Wheels® wheels and axles. Both have rear body mods to accept the oversize wheels/tires. I had 2 others I sent to Cali.

I did buy a yard sweeper this year, no more raking leaves for this kid! Between blood sugar and ticker issues, the wife and the Doctor agreed it was far better for me.
Anywhoo that's where I have been. Here's to hoping everyone is in good health,, good spirits and a little bit lucky!
Welcome back, Mel has a low carb unadvertised menu for us diabetics here in the diner.
Those cars look great, the trucks are superb

Not speaking the language is not a big hindrance except amongst the family sitting around. Then it is hard to communicate though the wife will sometimes translate short conversations. getting around, riding trains, shopping etc is no problem.

i mentioned to the wife a few train things I saw at the store today. Have to break the ice and get her comfortable with the idea….

Good night everyone. 10:45pm Monday night here.

Happy Monday!

Tomorrow, we get to watch our youngest graduate from Ohio Dominican University's Physician Assistant program. She had been living in our guest house until this past summer, when she moved into an apartment with a friend.

The nest is feeling really empty, but I couldn't be happier for her!

Good morning modelers, travelers, drivers and other confused readers. Wisconsin weather is definitely Fall like which is good. Metrological Winter isn’t here yet and I am not sorry the 6” of white stuff received Friday has mostly disappeared. I don’t need the white Christmas either and with the granddaughter here all weekend Terry puts the sound on the TV instead of Bluetooth. So I couldn’t avoid hearing the TV weather guessers the past few days moaning that most likely we will have a brown Christmas. High 30’s today but again no sun. I moved my SAD lights out into the garage so as I work on the commission I will get my needed sun dosages. There is radiant heat in the garage floor and it’s 60f degrees out there. With either a fleece pull over or hoodie, it’s very comfy.

I need to get out of the house today but of course I still cannot drive. The chauffeur is out riding but I will let her know, we need to get out today. Even the grocery store would be fine but I am thinking a trip to Lomard Hobbies, a stop at her friend in Racine and a stop at Hiawatha Hobbies. It’s a oblong route. 110 miles to Lombard, Il, another 70 to Racine, 30 from there to Hiawatha and the last 75 miles home. With a good meal stop along the way, that should help the anxiety that is building.

Smudge617, did you daughter calm down? That incident would be nerve racking

Chadbag, enjoy the trip. Heck my in-laws spoke English and 1/2 the time I couldn’t follow their conversations. I hope you are taking pictures

deer kill, the first deer that committed suicide via my car hit the left front driver side tire area. I never saw it, felt it though hit, but looking in the rear view mirror I saw it tumbling. Pulled the car over and watched the damn thing, stand up, shake itself off and trot away. Back in the 70’s we were required to report it to the police and the car was not useable. So I walked up the hillside driveway (at least 1/2 mile) the deer had trotted up to, ask for help and use the house phone (remember no cells back then) and there was the deer dead in the front yard with the farmer standing over it. He had that thing dressed out before the cop arrived. The cop called the tow company, then drove me 30-40 miles home.

Terry just came in. She has the same need I do ( about getting out) and will call her friend.

enjoy the day
TomO

Good morning all, 30° and cloudy out there.

Anyone else in the midwest bracing for the 3 day storm coming our way! Supposed to snow beginning Tuesday eve through Friday. Gonna be mild temps, however, around 30 (freezing).

Karl - that S-10 looks exactly like my old one. I traded it off in 98 or 99, I think

Not sure how some of you guys can travel like you do, Chad, Troy, TomO seem to be on the fly! One weekend in the cities and I am ready to be home! Chad you really deserve to get out with all the work on the house, Troy I wonder if you take yours off as business expense since you are working, and TomO I think they used to call it "itchy shoe leather". I travelled for years as part of my consulting business but now happiest at home.

David trussrod - seems to like to rain just at the wrong time

I got some more scenery down last night on the backside of the hill, as seen in this pic, would be the hillside to the right,

Maybe doing more before adding some trees to the back left side of the mainline:

My son and I went to the club yesterday and had a relaxing afternoon running trains. I ran my PFE reefer drag, or as much of it as a single steamer will pull up our 2% grade, and tested that new Postal Baggage car. Surprise, it ran well, something I didn't really expect. I bought a brass diner that shortd out so badly I had to replace the brass trucks with a set from a Branchline Passenger car kit. This car did well, but it's full underbody detailing means broad curves only. I have a thing for head end cars, and I love mail trains. Here are the videos:

You wouldn't expect to see a Daylight painted GS-4 on a reefer drag, but it was done, usually after a major shopping to allow the bearings to be run in at a lower speed.

Alan!

Wonderful videos! I like seeing your posts with videos! Awesome! That Daylight looks great! I have an ols Premier IHC Daylight Mikado class I think it is. I will have to break that out for ya with a picture. It is DC though.

Wanna hear something funny?

With the exception of a Bowser Western Maryland "hammerhead" RS3 (due out next year) I plan on buying NO more locomotives for the rest of my days.

Seriously,

Stop laughing!
Both funny and hard to do.
In 2014, I quit buying rolling stock, and then ScaleTrains came along. I have resisted all freight cars, but I have added 13 locomotives to the roster from them.

Eventually she did, thanks for asking, she has some mental health issues as well, suffers panic attacks, weight loss (Bulimia) which doesn't help, but the therapy seems to be slowly working, when she get's upset like this, I usually end up listening to her for a few hours, (worst was 6 hours) I've even known her to fall asleep while talking to me, this has been going on for years, got worse the last two years since her mom died, but slow improvements are being made.
