made it to Charlottesville. The connection was delayed half an hour

Sitting in a very crowded airport.

Just heard the gate agent announce that a flight captain had just completed his last commercial flight. The crowd gave him a rousing cheer and applause as he deplaned.

Good afternoon,

Still warm now at 36°F supposed to get down to 4° F by 7 am, I suspect the wind will seriously pick up.

James - I don't know how you keep those hours. Even at your young age! I am up at 5 am but usually go to bed around 9 PM and fall asleep immediately. Bottom freezer - that is what my wife wanted when we got ours. However cause of covid etc none available so we have a top freezer. suits me fine.

Old appliances - saw a special on public TV a month or so ago went through the evolution of toasters and other household appliances. Some of those early ones were works of art, meant to be displayed. I did not know that. Kind of made my head spin when they went through the ice box and refrigerator evolution. So much I/we may have taken for granted with our modern conveniences.

Snowman - there will be a big hole here hope you keep us up on stuff

Wife says we are going out for supper, I already know what I am having, the 1/2# hamburger patty, dinner roll, cole slaw, and french fries. Going to the local greasy spoon "Crazy Mary's" in Finlayson MN, only about 3 miles from home.

TomO - Madison is a nice town, stayed there a couple times, was in that motel literally right on that lake on the edge of Campus and near downtown. We ate at that restruant in the motel as I remember, very pleasant atmosphere.

David I was born with a hearing deficit and I only started with 23% in each ear. So as of today with today's technology I have 17% in each ear today. My mother was severely ill when she was pregnant for me. So in the development stages my nerve endings did not fully develop. So back in the 60's as you know technology was not yet there yet for the hearing. They had hearing aids that were very primative but very damaging. Think of hearing aids like this, they are basically microphones. Yup, just amps that increase volume that screams sounds into your ear day in and day out. Damaging! Hearing aids never correct one's hearing. In this day an age it still holds true. We are not there yet. Someday maybe I will be able to have stem cells for my corrective hearing? So having said that. When I sleep, I sleep very well and hard! lol I do not hear anything although I do feel vibrations and some very loud sounds with out my hearing aids. The thing about a loss of one's senses the other senses do increase and are highly developed and heightened even more than the average person. Anyways I have always been that way with sleep. I do however listen to my inner self and follow my instincts and gut for a lot of things. If I am tired I do what I need to do to obtain sufficient rest. As for my hearing I communicate well and most people don't even know my hearing impairment. I read lips, sign in 2 languages, I speak spanish too. I spent many years in my adolescent years training and in speech therapy. Now I have a southern drawl with a midwestern twist LOL

Miele is a German brand that is well regarded and has been around forever. They are a "luxury" brand that competes in the Sub-Zero / Wolf / Thermador / Viking market

With regard to the LG one. I'd be tempted to file a small claims court action. There is a history of it failing in warranty and the technician had, in warranty, recommended it being replaced. They probably won't show up or will ask to settle anyway. The point is that companies will behave like this -- trying to outlast the warranties -- if we allow it and never hold them to it. The small claims court action is a way to hold them accountable.
Check pls if the company has any repair issues. Some companies do not want any repair done except for the very expensive service of their own technical department with no spare parts available for third parties. I hate that. It takes longer, cost more.

Good afternoon folks!

Today is a chill day. Grey skies feeling still like late fall early winter norms. Temperature is actually not too bad lika heat wave a perfect 40 degrees! No complaint here! So this weekend we have a local train show coming for one day only...on Sunday in the capitol region. Downtown Albany, NY aka small-bany. ;)

Anyways I am thinking of going although it is not a big one but there may be something worth going to. It will get me out of the house anyways....we shall see.

My sanding towers for the diesel facility did come in. I have not posted the pictures like I said I would 2 days ago. Been busy tending to my parents needs since they have COVID. I crashed early the last 2 nites before 10 PM which is totally out of character for me. My body says "hey bub time to re-charge them batteries" so that's what I did. My normal schedule is up at 5;30 AM and to bed after midnight every night sometimes 1 AM. Been that way for 35 years or so. I feel good today, rested but stress is still there with all the worrying with my parents and my older sister.

In the office today, shoulda stayed home. Not much going on. I managed to purchase a boxcar on evil bay though lol. Tonight i feel good enough to work in the train room. More cleaning and organization while running trains. I have 2 locomotives on the programing waiting list that need attention. One of them is a SD70Ace EMD Demo and another one is an ES44. I hope to get to them tonight.

Progress is slow on the bench organization but I will get there. I have been side tracked no pun intended. I did get 4 pieces of lumber painted in the garage that will be part of the upper shelving. (painted black) I have 2 more to do and 24 brackets to spray paint black as well. Then I can install that system to finish my intended plan. This shelf system goes completely around the room 1 inch above the door and window. It will hold memorabilia of RR stuff and the nature of stuff like that. After I complete that I will need to do something for under the bench work as well to store boxes and rolling stock. I have been on the hunt for 2 sets of "flat files" like Safco architectural files. A buddy of mine did this and it's fantastic. He actually did several of them. One of them he cut the top of the steel off to create a window like frame and set a tempered glass top on it. He then put caster wheels on it and uses at a coffee table in his hobby room ingenious! Looks awesome! I will put caster wheels on mine but it will be used to slide out from under the layout. trying to find them used at a decent price then I will paint them black.

So many things on my to do list but all in due time. I am still stacking more firewood when weather and time permits. I am behind on this...not good. Usually I am done with this early.

Refrigerators------

Man I have one in the garage that must be 25 years old. It runs better than anything new. It's an old GE. The one in my kitchen is an old Frigidaire that's probably just as old. I would not buy an LG, Samsung or any other manufacturer that made TVs or Cell phones sorry cannot do it. I do however like the freezer deals on the bottom as a slide out drawer. I am looking to get a new refrigerator when I start my re-model of the kitchen. I have already done my dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave and sink faucet this year. So the refrigerator and stove is next as well as redoing the cabinets & counter tops. My flooring is 80% done in the house
but held off in the kitchen area until I am ready.

Start at the 2 minute and 50 second mark ....this will twerk your brain. I love how the greatest generation built stuff!

Well that's enough rambling on. Ya'll have a great weekend and I will check later! I enjoyed reading up on ya'll posts!
Enjoy the trainshow and tell us how it was pls.

Today when I visited this forum, I click on the "New Posts" button and all new posts are listed except those in the coffee shop.
I've tried this a few times throughout the day and the same thing happens. New posts in other forums come up but coffee shop is missing despite there being new posts in it.
Did I lose my status here?

Maybe it's the politicians in DC censoring folks near them who might have conservative leanings.

Good evening, Hello Flo, Francine it's been quite a while since I last saw you !

Spike Drivers and Ballist Tampers how are you all doing ?

The low today was 35° and the high was 49° with Humidity of 91%

It's good to be back talking with you guys a gals. Life takes some odd turns at times, I never thought I be as incapacitated as I am
having to use a rolling walker/cane to get around due to an Arthritic Left knee bum Left hip. But hay, I'm still walking and driving my manual 6spd transmission Hyundai Veloster. So things could be a lot worse. Now if I could just regain my leg lift ability !

Oh, I still go out back and bring in Oak
firewood to heat with. Earlier I loaded up and brought in 3 of the 24lb bags and 3 of 20lb bags full of split and a few smaller round limbs.

Thanks to all of you for the warm welcome back, Willie for noticing my return as well as Dave and anyone else I may have left out.

I just went out to fill up two of the large bags with firewood to replenish what I burned during the day. It was cold and moist out. Checked the indoor thermometer which read 42° so that means it is 32" outside !

Hopefully the individual supplying info for the weather app, who evidently lleast a good mile to the East of my location and at least 200' higher in elevation is wrong about the rain prediction for my local as the app is predicting a lot of rain today which I don't need or want.

David I was born with a hearing deficit and I only started with 23% in each ear.
James I have a different type hearing problem. I can't hear high pitches. I found this out in high school hearing test. Went I joined the USMC I was told you may be going home because of your failure to hear high pitches. Then they decided to keep me. I worked at IBM for a year and a high pitch alarm went off the person next to me said we have to go the alarm. I said, what alarm?
Swal
