Glad to hear you are well. I always keep the weather radar up on the computer and saw that you were in the middle of some weather.

Another great photo. Thanks for posting.

Forum:

I'm lucky....my wife loves to use our snow blower. In fact several years ago I brought her a new Ariens!!! I haven't removed snow from the driveway in at least 10 years. She also likes to mow the lawn.

If any of you guys want to know how I accomplished this feat...its a secret.

Thanks.

Greg

Good luck on the snow you fellows in the East and North. 44 and partly cloudy with a high of 73 .. neener, neener, neener!

Who did you bribe or pay off Greg ???

Those Ariens tractors are, or were fantastic. I don't think they make ones like the one I had any more. I got one in the late 70. It was a year old demonstrator and came with a 48' mowing deck, a double extension roto tiller and a 48 inch snow blower. I picked up a three point hitch for it and got a one bottom plow for it and a grading blade.

That tractor worked 12 months of the year. We had a garden that was roughly 80 by 30 feet. The one bottom plow was great for turning the ground over in the fall ad then the tiller got the garden ready for planting in no time. With a 2 acre lawn, I can say enough for the mowing deck. Everything was PTO driven and it only took a matter of minutes to change attachments. In the winter the snow blower was a life saver. We live a quarter of a mile from the county road and I could have our lane cleared in no time.

Unfortunately the motor expired a few years ago. It had a Kohler one cylinder motor, I believe 24 horse. I was mowing and the motor started running rough and I felt something warm splatter on my leg. Turned off the motor, got down and looked at it and could see right through the block and saw the crank shaft and the bottom of the cylinder. There was only one motor that was available for the tractor with the way the PTO and chassis was and they wanted $2,000 for a short block. Guess we worked it to death. We had to part company with it and ended up getting a little Huskvarna 28 HP with a 48" deck and put a snow plow on it. I had checked into trying to find a snow blower for it but the local Husky dealer I bought the tractor said that there were snow blowers available that were supposed to fir my tractor but he advised me to save my money and pass on it.

I sure miss the old Ariens. crying.gif It served us well for over 30 years.

My Cub has a Kohler 20.5hp one cylinder engine, 46" deck, and automatic transmissin, power steering, and cruise control. It also has a cup holder, and a map holder (?). I got this one because it has a Kohler, and I've had a lot better luck with them than the Briggs engines. It was the best one I could get without going imto the industrial version.
The first tractor I had was a Cub similar to Karl's. It had an 8hp Kohler with generator start and electric PTO. After I ran that to death, I got a Sears Suburban 12hp, followed by a Ford LGT165. That Ford was the biggest POS I ever saw. It was equipped similarly to my current tractor, but was in the shop more than it was being used.

Those Cubs are real workhorses.

I was toying with the idea of getting one when the old Ariens died, but we no longer have a garden as our kids have moved out and I mainly use it for keeping the two acre lawn mowed. It does rather good for plowing snow until I get such a berm plowed up at the edges of the driveway. When this happens, I can always get the skid steer out of the shop to take care of that.

Afternoon All,

Made a quick trip to the LHS for flex track, cinders, and mine run coal. After getting home I remounted a PL signals sensors in the finished area of the current project. Earlier there was a tornado warning for the next county to the east but luckily nothing came from it. Supposedly we were supposed to have a huge amount of rain but we only have had a light rain with wind. We are supposed to be clear by 5 PM and then it cools down again for the weekend.

Chet- MOH is my tech support.

Karl- Score on the unexpected train time.

Garry- Interesting idea for the switch lists. Nice F units.

Bob- Good news on the MIL. I hope it works out at the rehab center.

Willie- Nice job on the building. It's nice that your wife cares that you get enough modeling time! LOL.

Greg- That sounds like my wife. When I had to push a lawn mower it was all me, but after getting a riding mower that job was taken over by my wife.

LASM- No snow. Last time I saw a snow flurry in the south was in Pascagoula, MS in 1976 or 1977. I can't remember which. As soon as the flakes touched the ground they melted.

I hope everyone stays safe and warm.

Looks good Curt. MOH says I'm tech support. If that doesn't work, my son is a computer geek and he'll come out from town and get thing going.

The biggest problem is the she needed the report for tonight.

Had to shut down as T/S came in. Spotty rain, some heavy, winds and tornado watch. We are under watch till 5 p.m.

BOB - Continued prayers for your mil.

Guys, thanks for the pictures Just a helava group.of talented modelers.

Hope the storm doesn't hurt anyone. Stay warm, well and safe.
Phil

Well Done! Timing, LOL! Right as of this typing I've got the 57 of mine that will stay coupled together in the yard and I was just about to put the DD to em going for a new P.B! It's nice having the room to even try it. If they stay together thru all four loops, all the turnouts AND can make it into and around the figure 8 it's a 'full pull' under present conditions. That's 5 plus scale miles with right and left turns from 24"-15", it takes a while. Then I'll try it in reverse!

Well here we go guys. I just upgraded my layout once again.

Gave the track a good coat of brown and it makes a huge difference in appearance. Lol and the loco in my earlier post is my old life like GP38. That unit is special to me simply because that unit was my first ever Chessie engine. I actually saved up the money and bought it from life like. She is a dummy engine and she will make some appearances here and there on my layout.

Really short day for us today. Larry had errands to tend to and my old boss, Taso, needed my help at his new office hooking up his network. All schools that did open this morning closed early and many businesses were closing early. Surprisingly light traffic for a Friday afternoon however.
