Good morning y'all. Started out at 42* should get up to 'bout 63*. No rain.

I think Curt has left the sub service and joined the "SeaBees" . Heck of a project he has started. I'll bet it turns out great.

Good morning, America! It's 11° right now with an optimistic high of 37° forecast for the high today. It's supposed to get down to 26° tonight, so that shouldn't be too bad. Did my orientation for the job at the chemical plant yesterday. They've got a lot of scary sounding chemicals in use there, with even scarier results!!! The general foreman looked the job over yesterday and told us the good news is "at least it's inside". The bad news is "it's a long walk outside to it and it's right by a big rollup door".

The tank is empty and has been cleaned, so I'm hoping for a decent job. Got to be at work for the night shift at 7 PM today and will get off at 7 AM. Then about a 45 mile drive home, get some sleep and repeat. They told us five hours for orientation and two twelve hour shifts for the job. Hopefully, we'll get a full shift Thursday night.

So, this means I'll be up for a while this morning, then go to bed again later and try to get a little sleep before leaving for work. The worst part of night shift is getting yourself adjusted to it. On short jobs like this it's over before you get adjusted. Can't win for losing!

Bob - Good luck on the night shift and glad you found some employment for a while. Look out for those chemicals. Don't need you glowing in the dark.

I really hated the night shifts when I was a cop. They had rotating shifts and we changed every month. The old body clock didn't like that at all.

Good Morning, -5 and calm. Supposed to warm up and snow (kind of a joke in Minnesota, because it seems whenever it warms up in the winter we are in for snow).

Chet and LASM, I don't know how you guys cope with these kinds of temperatures and even much lower. The upside of not being able to work is that I don't have to go out when its this cold. ]

I guess we get used to the cold. I remember the winter of 80-81, we had 40 straight days when the mercury did not rise above 0. The day the cold wave broke, it reached 10 above and I went outside without a jacket. That was when I lived near Warroad Minnesota, which is almost as far north as you can get and still be in USA.

Like the train, also. I graduated from High School in 1976, the colors on my tassle are Red, White, and Blue!

Have a Great Day!

My Athearn GP40 is the strangest locomotive on my roster. It's the only one I have that needs to warm up. Every session I have with it its slow going and then....bullet train! Still one of my favorites though. She pulls anything I put behind her without issue.

Thanks, Chet. Some of the chemicals they have there will get rid of the green color by removing your skin........very quickly!!!! Been holding out for an outage at a big power plant about 55 miles from here. Supposed to be about four months long. It'd make a nice hit! Should be a first call out next week, so things are starting to happen!

Phil ... I think you are correct. Curt does great work. I hope my comment did not hurt his feelings, but I can't see a three way switch fitting in with what he wants to do.

Here's an interesting video of an HO scale grain thresher. Don't think I would be up for this project. Wouldn't try this at home or anywhere else.

I believe this was build by a member of the Great Falls Model Railroad Club.

Here's the website for the Montana Museum of Railroad History. Years back I used to help out the Great Falls Model Railroad Club during their open house during state fair. The club has apparently expanded and are now the museum. It looks like quite an operation. I am glad to see that they were able to preserve my friends layout, Pete Ellis which is apparently going to be a good part of the museum. Check out the layout tab on the website. Pete was a member of the NMRA Master Builders award and a consultant to the Disney people. On the website in the layout part they have photos of them moving Petes layout from his ranch to the museum. That looks like it was quite a job. I still have to try to find a way for transfer videos from 8mm to digital. It was one amazing layout he had. They also have a lot of interesting history on the site about early railroading in this area.

What a great layout and it even better that Pete Ellis's layout has been preserved for everyone to enjoy. Thanks Chet for the link to the club website. I love unit trains and the coal train with its 200 cars was impressive.

Thanks for sharing.

We get to see our granddaughter play hockey this weekend, they live several hours away but have a tournament nearby. She is 10 years old and playing in hockey tournament!! How times have changed!

Chet--There is a local company that advertises on TV that does the transfer: http://www.filmtransfercompany.com/Duluth/

When I googled it I noticed that several companies do it as a business. I am sure you would only entrust your archives to the best!

I'll have to check around here. I'm sure that something like that is available here. I usually avoid going into town if at allpossible except for Friday night bowling.

Afternoon All,

It was a little like Christmas today. I received my order from Micro-Mark and the T/O's I ordered came in. I did a fitting and decided how I am going to do the turnouts for the coal mine (picture). Since I got the needed car cards in I finished filling those out, mounted and labeled boxes. I was talking about removing my coal trestle on a non-PRR modeling site and a suggestion was to keep the trestle but add a oil side of the business since I model the transition era. The more I think of that the more I like the idea. If I remove 2 small stand alone buildings it will work.

Karl- My phone is hit and miss for notifications.

Garry- Great mill area. No, you did not offend me. After 21 years in the Navy and 13 years in EMS I have a pretty thick skin. I also know you and others are trying to help and not being butt heads. When someone is that way to me they meet the Senior Chief!

WJLI26- I hate it when reality intrudes on our MRR dreams and plans. LOL.

Chet- Amazing videos. The farm equipment animations are works of art.

LASM/Burlington Bob- Sounds like fun watching the grandkids playing sports.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Curt, nice to see your afternoon progress!! Looks like a true construction zone over there! I almost feel like I am there watching.
