The WAG was unofficially abandoned in 1972, when flooding from hurricane Agnes dumped several feet of rain on the area, washing away much of the railroad. Official abandonment was 7 years afterward.
 
My brother is getting another ultrasound test done, then one of the doctors will be in to speak to us. From what we have been told, he could end up in almost any department in the hospital, as he has problems covered by almost every medical field.

Sorry to hear that, Terry. The blood clots in themselves are very serious, dehydration is easier to correct. Anything else in addition, wow! Like I said before, we are praying for him.

Terry ... Prayers for you brother..... I have a lot of faith in today's medical profession, and their ability to save people and cure them.
 
Don't know if any of you are familiar with NF&G railroad in southern West Virginia. It was a joint venture with the C&O and NYC railroads for the coal being mined out of the Sewell seam. Though later it would be Chessie and Conrail pulling the coal out. Now only CSX hauls coal out as the Sewell seam is practically all mined out. Here are some of my favorite photos of the Rainelle, WV yard.

I am home, at least for now, and I can tell you what the doctor told us about my brother.
He has a very large blood clot in his heart, which is throwing out small pieces of itself into his bloodstream. He is badly dehydrated, and the hospital has him on iv fluids, as well as heparin to help break up the clot. His kidneys have partly shut down, but they are hoping they will start working properly again. He has tissue damage in his legs and feet from impaired blood flow. He is currently in cardiac intensive care, though with all the issues he has, he could have been taken in to any part of the hospital for treatment. We will be visiting him frequently while he's in the hospital, and he is on several prayer and thought lists. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers here, he can use them.
 
Evening All,

Got the rest of the leaves up and bagged from the back yard (7 more bags), of course the front once again needs raked...Did I mention I hate oak trees. Of course the constant up and down of temps in this part of the year just make it worse. Today we made it to 88 F, tomorrow is supposed to be 87 F, then back to season norms of mid 70's.

I think after our trip to VA in July I am going to rip out about 7 ft of the raised mainline (long run against back wall) and go to a continuous trestle bridge. It will be low since it is only 2.5 inches high (not long enough to raise it) but I want to make it a little more interesting.

Tomorrow MOH goes to her quilting classes and I go to VA to see the vampire. After that I need to do my laundry.

Louis- That is great news.

Corey- I love that scene of yours in WPF.

Terry- Very sorry to hear about your brother. I am saying prayers for him and your family.

Gees Terry. None of that is any good.
Would he happen to be diabetic who doesn't exactly take good care of that?
Everything you mentioned makes me think of that.

I knew a guy in NC that was like that. Actually, I did a lot of work for him carpentering and farm work while I was in between jobs for a while. I saw him dosing himself one day and asked what he tested on his meter. He said he didn't use one and could just tell when he needed insulin and would guess at how much. He was constantly thirsty and always had something to drink.

My thoughts and prayers are out there for him.

To the best of my knowledge my brother is not diabetic. That could change after all the testing he is getting.
 
Terry, I would have thought they would have your brother on Warfarin rather than just Heparin. My a wife had a clot in her leg, she was on Warfarin for 9 months to get rid of that (luckily). A very nasty drug for sure but far more effective at dissolving clots than Heparin, that's what they give you to help prevent clots forming when you're bedridden.
 
I have to assume they know what they are doing. I think they don't want to do any one thing to aggressively, as it might push another of his conditions over the edge.

Curt- Ask your Dad what temps. he prefers. Bet between 77 and 82. It was just right for me today. Temp.hit 87 and was raking leaves with out a shirt. Did three big bags today, four yesterday and two on Monday. Not bad for an old fossil. The blank blank tree keeps dropping leaves. Still have at least 2 large bags to rake. And the leaves keep falling

Today was the hottest March day on record here, 37C (98.6F), with 76% humidity @ 7:00 PM (7:12 now). It has been extra steamy, I'm sticky. Just down the road in Brisbane, the first NRL (National Rugby League) game is about to kick off, and the announcer has just reported 85%humidity at the ground, lots of sweaty bodies grappling. You guys are still having snow, well, so is Tasmania.

Hey Terry,

When I was hospitalized with viral pneumonia they found I also had a blood clot. The first medication they gave me to treat it was heparin. Blood clots are scary, but no mystery. The medical profession has lots of experience and expertise with blood clots. You can bet your bottom dollar they have a good reason for using heparin.

My clot was in my left leg and they worried it could travel to my heart or lung and that would be much worse. From what I know your brother survived the worst of it and will get better now that he is getting treatment. He is certainly one strong man with a superior will to win, you can't underestimate that!

Our prayers are with him and his family.


I don't know your brother's name, but God knows who we are praying for. Names can make it easier for us, but I found this prayer online that I did not need a name.

Think, O God, of our friend who is ill, whom we now commend to Your compassionate regard.
Comfort him upon his sickbed, and ease his suffering. We beg for deliverance, and submit that no healing is too hard for the Lord, if it be His will.
We therefore pray that You bless our friend with Your loving care, renew his strength, and heal what ails him in Your loving name.
Thank You, Lord.
