No worries Louis, I know exactly what your saying: Great news that it isn't Parkinsons. I'd love to practice your remedy, but the trainroom [my garage] has been colder than usual because of this bitterly cold winter, so now I'm dealing with kinks in the track in some places.

Ken it's like Roseanne Roseannadanna use to say "well it just goes to show you, it's always something"

Garry-- I need to keep better track of the research sites. everytime I go to find out about the loco's I spend a good half hour clicking different sites until I fine one where they have a complete data base.

I should make a data base of the data bases.
Umm, isn't that what Google is for? :)

Hiya Gang!

They don't know what to do with snow in DC. The government shuts down. Maybe they should get snow year round.

Evening guys,
Kind of a cloudy out here but the sun was out too for a while.

Hi all, Just got back from seeing the doc about my shakes. He assured me it is NOT Parkinsons [my primary fear], its just another annoying little sign that I'm getting old. It comes and goes, directly related to my stress level - and I've had plenty of that as of late!

Great news that it isn't Parkinsons. I'd love to practice your remedy, but the trainroom [my garage] has been colder than usual because of this bitterly cold winter, so now I'm dealing with kinks in the track in some places.

Say Ken: I'm glad to hear your fear was unfounded. All too often we tend to think of the worst case situation as a kind of defense mechanism, I imagine, as our minds run a-muck a bit. It's normal for that to happen, I do it too. I/we just have to grab hold of ourselves, so to speak, and realize that it's our own thinking is creating the nervous condition which can be due to various other reasons.

Possibly you need a release from the stresses at home such as exercise or just getting in touch with a buddy and cracking a few jokes as laughter is good medicine.

Also your body could be lacking one vitamin or another. B-12 is supposed to be very good for nerves and most older folks, like me and maybe you need extra Calcium and maybe more Iodine too?

Your layout situation: It sounds like you soldered your track in too many places and it's contracting and kinking with the cold weather. So you may need to either unsolder some of your joints or cut some new joints to allow your track to contract without kinking. I have that problem too and the reason I don't solder any joints but I have some large gaps here and there when is so cold.

Expansion and contraction can be a real problem, I remember earlier during the summer heat I had to go around with a razor saw and ReCut joint sections that I know I also cut once before. That's why I mentioned to others on here to only solder every other joint if using 3' flex track lengths and then leave about about at least 3/16" gap, UnSoldered, if laying track in the winter so there is room to expand in the summer heat or you can butt the rails fairly close if laying in the Summer, again without soldering various joints to allow for contraction in the winter.

I wonder how the Real Railroads handle that situation as it must affect them too? It's amazing that ready laid track, Atlas and others doesn't run into these problems too but I guess there are many more joints and possibly they all have a bit of space built in?

Say LG&SM: Neat shot of the old train crossing the Mississippi.

Evening All,

Went out to dinner at a new place by us called "Village Inn". Food was OK but nothing to write home about. Our eldest grandson was permanently taken out of Karate for tanking his 2nd state writing test because he did not want to do it. To say his mother is upset is putting it mildly. The youngest grandson has a karate test this Saturday to test for his yellow belt.

Raked the back yard today and tomorrow I will finish bagging it up (ran out of bags). Tomorrow the temp is supposed to be 88 F! That ties the 1989 all time high.

I forgot who was talking about Databases but if you are interested in a specific RR I would check their historical society first. The Pennsy historical society has a tremendous amount of info available.

I tried doing a short vintage film but it looked like crap. Does anyone recommend a site/program to make vintage RR videos? I also hit a milestone on YouTube by having a video go over 1000 views:D it only took 9 months.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Ken:
That should ease your concern, it's good news.

It's 33° and doing something. Pretty much started out as a sleet storm. Overnight, it's supposed to become a rain event, ending Wednesday afternoon. We managed to get all out errands finished today, Groceries, two pet stores, Furnace filter, March MRC, and a Classic Trains special about F units, from the FT to the FL9.
They are talking 4" to 8" for Thursday.. Going to the dentist for my annual check-up Wednesday Afternoon.

I loved it when they announce that due to the snow (1" or more), "Non - Essential positions should not report to work" When I lived in Bowie, I had Route 50 to myself all the way to where I exited at Burroughs.

I recall numerous business trips to DC. One day was really bad flying from Detroit to DC with a heavy snow storm. I had a 10:30 AM meeting to attend. Flying into National Airport (Now Reagan ) in a NWA 727 (dating myself), the plane was rocking from side to side. Pilot aborted landing. We circled a while. Tried another landing, and it was worse. Passengers needed to use the white bags. Messy. Pilot aborts second attempt to land. Eventually we landed at Dullas Airport. Road in a crowded bus for 2 or 3 hours in heavy snow with heavy traffic to downtown Washington. The meeting started at &:00 PM. .... I dislike both snow and flying. .... Not real fond of DC either.

UK Basketball won another game. ... They are 30-0.
