Good Morning, it is 4 degrees and heading for a high of 26! Ths sun is shining and there are patches on our lawn where the grass is showing through. We are supposed to get a couple inches tomorrow, though.

They say spring is right around the corner.

Speaking of Chessie engines, what was mine again?
I forget?

Morning All,

Kind of a lazy morning so far. It's supposed to get up into the 80's today. I got my locos boxed up yesterday so they are ready to go on Saturday when I see my friend. I need to pick up some leaf piles out front today that I raked yesterday. Did I mention that I hate oak trees. I drew up the plan for wood shelving on the other side of the garage. This was a little more complicated because of items that need to be stored on this one. That will probably get made next week. Not sure what is on the agenda today.

Terry- Nice video.

Milw113- I really like the looks of the 4-6-4 you posted.

I hope everyone has a good day.

A bachmann. Its GE series locomotive with a GP40 number on it. If I'm not mistaken it is a B23-7

I think you are right. Except I don't know about it being a Bachman. Their are no manufacturer marks anywhere on or in it that I recall and the gas tank cover is missing. It's internal trucks are a lot like the old Tyco style (I.e. snap-in, swivel and difficult to take out).

See I don't recall seeing this exact model in its package...if you go off the bacmann spectrum model its a b23-7. U36B could be right. I know mine is a bacmann model though.

Now if you were to go athearn blue box they marketed their u boats with the same instructions in the box. Honestly I see no difference in their u23b and u30b aside from their roster numbers.

Terry and "Chessie" :
After some more investigation between the two I am going to say Terry is right.
It is a U36B - almost for sure.

The two are so identical this was a tough one to figure out.
Why am I going with the U36? The headlight configuration was the only discernable feature I could find.
The 36 pics I found showed 2 sets of dual head lights. Atop the cab they are over-and-under. On the nose they are side by side.
On the 23-7 pics I found it only has the side-by-side plus another set with 1 on each side of the coupler.

Another object I noticed is between the center 2 stanchions on the front railing. The 36 has some sort of "box" type structure and the 23-7 doesn't have anything at all there.

So I'm going with the U36B.

One of my favourite streamlined steam locomotives...

Found a neat photograph to look at, I think it was taken in St. Paul. Check out the station wagon in the background, I think early 70's?

NP 5671.jpg

lasm ... Must be early 1970's because it would be after the BN merger. The CB&Q locomotive was renumbered to a four digit number for BN, and CB&Q early GE locos originally had 3 digit numbers for CB&Q.

Garry--I forgot about the merger taking place in 1970, wonder how and if they repainted or patched---

I did the research and 5671 is a BN number, the NP number was 2805; it was retired in June 1981. Remembering you are a CB&Q man, I see 5665 was 577 and they retired her in Nov, 81.

The Chevy (or Buick) Station wagon is the same green as our 1972, and it looks like it has been around the block.

They were both listed as GE U28C but I notice a lot of subtle differences, windshields, headlights..

Evening All,

Did not accomplish much today, just puttered around doing a couple of little jobs. Tomorrow I'm going to rake the back yard. My son was supposed to be off and help me, but his work schedule changed. MOH is going to a quilting gathering with classes Thur, Fri, and Sat. in Lakeland. It's about a 45 min drive so she will be home in the evenings.

I started playing with a photo editor today. This is the photo I put in WPF but aged after the fact.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Nice work on the photo.
46 and sunny now, but snow predicted for tonight. We'll see what happens in the morning.
Good evening all.

Good evening. It is cloudy and 50. Tonight it is supposed tog et down to 31, then only up to 34 tomorrow.

Louis, I was ten years old when I got that Tyco engine in a set. I had gotten a job washing school buses on weekends, and after a couple of months, I had saved enough to get the set. It was a long time before I bought another train, because I expected whatever I got to go pffft.

Terry, check my post and pics in the "buildings and structures" section of the forum.
I got the flood loader finished up - for the most part.
There is extra work I'm planning on doing tomorrow however.

Now I need to think of how to build a mountain to make it look proper.
But, I may just let is sit there and look cool. My landlord thought it was impressive this evening.

I have also learned there is real difference between Testers Master modelling cement (liquid) and Plastruct Weldene (also liquid).
They have their different time and place - especially when time is a matter.

Looks like the Baltimore region has dodged a bullet with this ice storm, as far as power outages are concerned. That's all headed toward Philly and South Jersey now [Joe, I hope you won't be affected by it!].

I haven't posted here much recently because I haven't been feeling too good. No fever, but I've had episodes of feeling weak and light-headed, and my hands start to shake whenever I pick something up. Makes it a real PITA to eat peas using a fork! Gonna see my doc about it Monday.

Ken: I hope you're feeling better soon. The storm started before noon, and ended before midnight. I had to clear about an inch of sleet and snow from the driveway this morning, then spent the rest of the day in front of the TV watching NHL trade deadline day coverage. I'm amazed at the resources committed by the Canadian Sports Networks in covering this event, but they held my interest.

In the morning, the wife and I need to get some shopping in before the next round of snow and sleet makes its way here Tuesday afternoon. I have most of the rolling stock off the layout and back in the boxes. My terminal area looks kind of bare.

Curt: Nice B&W photo of the coal yard.

Karl: Thanks for the good news.........
