Running Bear's Coffee Shop XLVIII

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Time to call it a day and head to the house. Here are a couple of parting pictures.

Of all my years travelling around the world and later land surveying, I've seen some bizarre stuff. That's a new one on me.
I'm guessing those might be Boeing 787 Dreamliner bodies on the way to the assembly plant.

Eric, don't forget you are going to need plastic model cement and a sharp exacto knife for that kit you should be getting today or tomorrow.

I already have everything needed brother! Just waiting..... the tracking # hasn't updated since last night so who knows.
Today would be great but tomorrow is probably more than likely given it's a government operation. The mail hasn't ran here yet today so there is a chance.... fingers crossed and praying. I really need something besides track-work to do at this point.
I really do need to find a club. My DD40x needs a place to run.

If nothing shows up today, I just may pull out the keyboard (electric piano) and do some playing. I haven't done that in a while. The cat [he's not my cat] doesn't like it. Then again he's been asleep since 10 this morning on my couch and hasn't moved much. He must have a bladder the size of a basketball.

They are 737's. The 787 Dreamliner is a wide body jet, too big to fit through the tunnels.

Good morning gang...
Hope that everyone's doing good...

Good morning everybody!

30 with cloudy skies in southeast Baltimore

I had a great day yesterday. The snow day allowed my grandson and I to run the new Lionel Penn Central GG1. He said it best "that is a nice train Pop"

Have a great day everybody!

Close - They are Boeing 737 fuselages. There was a pictorial of them in TRAINS a few months back. There was also a derailment since then which destroyed several fuselages.

It is right at zero this morning. Maybe the 28 at Daytona Beach last week wasn't too bad after all.

Here are a couple of pictures of the Montana Rail Link derailment into the Clark Fork river.

A lot of derailments unfortunately have happened in this area near Alberton, Montana. Excessive moisture wreaks havoc on these rails which run right alongside the river.

Good morning gents. Cold and overcast here as well.
Although it appears the sun is trying to come out - actually it is.
Not much I can do with the trains until the keyboard membrane comes - probably next week.
Kind of depressing really.
I reprogrammed one of my engines to avoid the #8 key that popped out. Guess I should write down the new address I put in.
I did read something yesterday about resetting the decoder back to factory defaults - I think put 8 in CV8 does that.
Of course, without my #8 key I'm sort of double-screwed for now.

Hopefully, Terry's kit comes today although the tracking # info hasn't been updated in 2 days.
Been up since around 0300. Read my latest MR Mags front to back - twice.
Seems I really should put down some ballast at some point but I'm not going to buy any unless I can see it with my own eyes first.

Terry's kit coming is a coal floodloader and I have plenty of coal hoppers so I guess I'll need to build a mountain to simulate some sort of mining operation. I called my landlord the other day about hooking me up on some scrap blue-board. He's the local building inspector so he's on job sites all the time and figured he could hook me with some for mountain work. He says no one uses blue-board anymore. When I was an active carpenter we used it all the time.

I can only read so much before I get bored and need to get hands on. Maybe I could finish writing that book review I was doing before the trains came back into my life. The editors haven't contacted me about it so maybe they dropped it as well. Doesn't matter. They have published me before and it doesn't pay anything - I mean zero. Well, they did send an autographed copy of the book. Jeopardy fans would recognize Ken Jennings. He's the author.

In the mean time, I'm stuck. I could tinker around a bit here and there but that's it.

Hey BigE,

What about setting up a programing track next to your PC then use your software to reprogram the locomotives so you won't have to use the 8 key?

Since your not going to be using the road numbers you could put a small piece of masking tape on the bottom of the locomotive with the new number.

If not do you have a DC power supply you could use until you get the parts from NCE?

Good morning and Happy Friday! 21° and sunny this morning, going to a high of 28°.

This morning we are going to venture out to the local mall and stop at the pet store to pick up the cat's rations for next month. Later today, or tomorrow, I begin dismantling my current layout. It's time to test the real estate marketplace, and the clutter has to go.

Have a great Friday.

I do have a piece of programming track and the NCE USB interface piece. It appears they all still need to be hooked up. I should have asked that guy yesterday. I suppose I could call back. My computer and my track are a floor apart (I'm in a townhouse).

I do have a regular DC supply (MRC RailPower 1300 if I recall). That's what's powering the turnouts right now. I actually considered unhooking the DCC and putting back the DC. The way I have things wired it wouldn't really all that difficult. I may still do that just to run my old DC trains. But it sure is funner when I can run a couple of engines at once.
Had I known I was going to go all-in DCC, I might have wired it so I could switch off from DC to DCC. To do DC only now I can only run one engine since I never did any blocking.

Good Morning All, it is -11 and arctic sun. The birds were really singing in front of our house this morning, they must have heard the weather forcast, going to get into the mid 20's this weekend.

Well... that's not going to happen. They say it all needs to be hooked up. Well "they" means Ed. Same guy I talked to yesterday and he remembered me. He even had the audacity to call me Mr. White (I mean that in a friendly way). Too funny.
Short of building a 70' cable or buying another computer just for train work, it just isn't going to happen right now.
Alas.....:(

USPS tracking info is shot out. No update in 2 days and now it says "in-transit", "out for delivery" AND expected delivery date for tomorrow all on the same page!!! What's up with that?

And to beat all that, Spock is dead.

I dare not ask what else can happen today lest I'm sure to find out.
