Our warm (in the 40's?) days are gone for now. Woke up to clear skies and 10 above. By the way, GOOD MORNING.
We have a couple of doxies and get a kick out of them when they go out in sub zero temps and try to get all four feet off of the ground at the same time. They're one reason I have to keep the driveway plowed. Short legs and deep snow don't go together.
We have a toy poodle and a malti-poo, (half maltese, half poodle), that weigh about 12 to 14 pounds. They will go out of their own accord when it is cold like this (2° right now and getting colder) but they wait as long as possible! Doesn't take long before they're lifting one leg to keep their paw warm, then lifting another, all because they have to find that perfect spot to do their business. Sure am glad we fenced our backyard for just such situations!
Schools are closed all over because of the temps (down to -15° with wind chills of -35°). Don't plan on getting out today if we can avoid it. Tomorrow is supposed to warm up some but a far cry from Arizona!
Good morning .... Weather is the topic of the day evidently. ... It's 20 F here now and should be close to 0 F tonight. .... We're packing our bags for a Florida trip, but it will be cooler than normal there. Can't win.
Did someone mention CJ? Wondering how he is.
Missing Jeff's posts and his Franken-Diesels.
No new layout projects because this is a busy time of the year. However, I have been running trains and switching freight cars in and out of industries.
Was wore out yesterday after all the cleaning we did. MOH also decided that we should go shopping at Wally World for groceries. Surprisingly the check out lines were not bad. Right now it has warmed up to 51 F. Tomorrow is supposed to be colder then slowly start to warm up. I really don't mind the cooler temps because I know what's coming in about 2-3 months (if we are lucky).
I will be gone until Sunday. Prototype Rails starts tomorrow night in Cocoa Beach (about 75 minutes to the hotel). I normally only go 1 day but MOH said lets go for the whole thing! Do I have an awesome wife or what?
I hope all you guys and gals stay warm in the really cold weather.
Phil- Good luck. Please give me a call after you are done.
In the immortal words of Curly Howard: "Why Soitenly!" it was after all, part of the SP! Remember that brass Pacific I posted the link to back around Christmas? That class ran on the Cotton Belt pulling passenger and mail trains. They could make do with Pacifics there because they didn't have to deal with the mountains the way the western lines did. It was delivered Monday by the way. Looks even better in person! I can hardly wait to get the re-motor done and see how it runs at the club. I have the train for it to pull.
I need to become rif raf so someone will kick me out of Iowa. I knew it was cold here this morning because my dog that love the snow was alternating standing on 2 opposite feet while waiting for me to let her back in. She is normally famous for not coming in for extra long periods in the winter.
Afternoon, all!
-8f and a WC of -35 right now. Schools closed all over the area.
Normally my golden retriever loves to make snow angels, but this morning at 6 a.m. he was all about getting done and back in the house! He hasn't gone out since.
Running trains with the new and improved ops plan. So far ,so good. I actually had 4 trains running at once, by myself! Don't think I should try THAT again! No cornfield meets, but a bit tense.
Time for lunch. be back later!

I've since ripped out and rebuilt the "temporary steps" that were there for 8 years. Crossed that off the Honey Do list!

Nothing like living dangerously. They do that too down at my DCC club, but without any control system other than fingers on the throttle and no cornfields either, but the "meets" do happen. I don't run any good stuff there any more.
After having 6 85' passenger cars slammed off the layout (thank goodness not onto the floor) and a train pushed out of staging because someone switched the turnout that I had set against that happening, I couldn't agree more.
Doc was pleased with my exam. Other blood test won't be done till tomorrow. So far so good. I'm WAY ahead of the curve.
Supposed to get down to 34 tonight and a high tomorrow of 54 . Hey ,its winter. Wear another shirt.
G'nite for now. Bundle up
