Good Morning All. 70° and partly cloudy today. Looks like yesterday evening's rain (1.4" in 45 minutes) has mostly run off, or at least disappeared into the depths of the grass. Don't have to add any water to the pool this week! On another front, as it turned out the tie-rod joint on the tractor that I thought I could fix, was broken beyond repair and I had to order a new one. The whole assembly only cost $16, but I won't get it until Monday; expedited shipping was not available. After the rain yesterday, I will need to get going pretty quickly before I have a prairie to deal with. Grass/weeds in some of the outlying parts of the yard were already getting out of hand from the 4" rain two weeks ago.
Out in the train shed, I tackled some small projects for a change of pace. I added graffiti and weathering to three freight cars, installed a few of the large backlog of ground throws to some secondary track and passing sidings, added details to a small structure and replaced a cardstock structure with a new one because I accidentally doused the old one with IPA/water spray. Took lots of pictures, but the camera is out in the train shed and I am not prepared to put on the boots to retrieve it.

Chet - I read that you may have had quite a moving experience yesterday with the earthquake in Montana. Did it affect you? Sorry to hear about your wife's fall; hopefully she will recover quickly. Cars. You must have had some real classics out there that you didn't tell us about if someone flew in from out of state to purchase them. That should pay for the porch remodel and then some.
Sherrel - You are probably already on the way, but prayers are with you for today's medical procedure.
Joe - Yeah! I have been keeping up with what's going on in Jersey. My son-in-law's parents live in SW Jersey and of course Jersey is just across the river from where I grew up in Brooklyn.
Garry - While I have seen those July 4 parade pictures before, I always enjoy seeing them again, thanks. Good news regarding your friend Dan.
Dave - Good luck with the new job. I sure don't miss all of those safety orientations and seminars. As a manager, I went through the OSHA 30-hour training seminar three different times during my career. Among other things, I was responsible for training spanish-speaking custodians about bio-hazards. I also headed up the hazmat response team at my company for a number of years.
Curt - I get a "404" when I click on your Flickr link.
Eric - Best wishes on this afternoon's doctor visit. I pray that it will be the good news that you are hoping for. I know that you can't wait to get the "all clear" and start to make preparations for the plumbing removal. Don't forget this time!!!

Well gotta go. It sounds like my wife is having an argument with Alexa in the living room. First I have to install my hearing aids (a definite love/hate relationship with them), so I can hear what's happening.
Everybody have a great day.

Willie

Good morning all. It's 70 and gloomy, heading to 85 with chance of rain all day. Weekend is looking okay.

I agree with all of you regarding the veteran's discount discussion. I have "veteran" on my DL but showing that at the DIY stores never helped - I actually did carry my discharge papers with me to see if that would get me somewhere, but it was a hassle to do it. In addition to the discounts at some stores, there are restaurants that give veterans free or discounted meals on certain holidays, etc. I hear the gov't is going to issue cards to all veterans but that it won't happen for a few years yet. Sigh - -

Got ambitious and installed the latest section of benchwork. Got to take the top off (it's not screwed down yet anyway) and trim a couple of edges.

Have a good day everyone.

Willie - forgot to mention, out in our garden the tomatoes are finally turning orange/red. Squash, cucumbers, green peppers, and beans keep coming - one of my favorite meals is green peppers stuffed with beef and pasta. My brother-in-law who lives in that great state of East Texas said his garden is finished for the year but he put up 26 jars of hot sauce from his 'maters.

Good morning, 72° and cloudy. Supposed to get some rain over the next 36 hours. My lawn's starting to looked parched, so a drink and a break from the sun will help.

Joe - Yeah! I have been keeping up with what's going on in Jersey. My son-in-law's parents live in SW Jersey and of course Jersey is just across the river from where I grew up in Brooklyn.

Willie: I'm not really all that interested in partisan politics, but I'm amused by the political theater, here in Jersey. It goes back to the late 70s when we lived just outside of Trenton. I do take issue with the media, and how they closely scrutinize anyone they don't approve of, and try to raise righteous indignation and criminalize every minor misdeed - see "Bridgegate" - but totally ignore it when "favoured" politicians do the same thing.

Curt: I also get an error message when I click on your Flicker link.

Good morning. We're starting off at 65 degrees this morning. Yesterday afternoon, I picked my wife up from work and passed a bank billboard showing a temp of 96 degrees. Not very common out here. As we headed south towards the house, dark clouds were coming over the mountains and the wind really picked up. Got just enough rain to settle the dust, but it did drop the temperature down to 73 degrees an short order. Didn't need to turn on the A/C in the bedroom.

Willie - I did not feel the earthquake last night. Lincoln, MT is about 120 miles from us, but news reports did say it was felt in our area. I was asleep at the time and my wife hs said that I could sleep through an earthquake. Two points for her. Got that one right. This morning the wife is going to try to figure out how to drive with her foot in the walking boot. The right foot of course. She did make it.

When it comes to collector cars, people know people and the guy who flew out here was looking for particular cars which I just happened to have. He had been looking for them for quite a while and the guy who had bought some had contacted him. Just a ciircle of collectors who know each other.

Johnny - Thanks for posting the photos of your layout. It gives an excellent overall view of what you are building.

Sherrel - I do like my bourbon. Makers Mark Thumb up.gif Have some of that along with the Jack Black and Single Barrel. Jim Beam Devils Cut is also very good.

Eric - Sure am hoping you get good news from the doctor.

Beady - I have a commercial drivers license, and don't know if Montana has such a thing as a Veterans license, but we do have veterans license plates which you also have to show the DD-214 to get.

Gotta get some work done, Later

Good morning ...

I hope Sherrel's surgery is going well.

Johnny .... Your bench work looks like it is constructed very well.

I know Maker's Mark is made in Bardstown, KY, but I have good memories of dinner on My Old Kentucky Dinner Train which is located in Bardstown. I took this photo just before we rode on the train with friends.

Yesterday, I attended an event in which I met Senator Mitch McConnell in person.

Thanks for the well-wishes.
I'll know something in about 1 hour - 1300.
Dad should be here in about 10 minutes.

Afternoon All,

Hot as all get out here. My son helped me figure out how to post pictures without PB. The test photo is the corrugated tin I purchased (paper). I tried using Flickr but could not figure it out. Watching the kids today and also a family friend's son. At 6 pm we are going to CiCi's pizza for eldest grandson's 12th birthday supper (his choice). I will probably finish up the pressure washing tomorrow. Both grandson's birthday party is Saturday. Youngest grandson's 10th birthday is Sunday.

Eric- I always just show my retired ID, but FL DL's have a veterans symbol if you show your DD-214 when renewing.

Willie/Joe- That was my attempt at Flickr.

Garry- I missed the post about Dan, I'm glad he's doing better.

Chet- I'm sorry I missed your post about your wife also, I hope she is doing better.

Johnny- The layout looks good and large also.

I hope everyone has a good night.

The Dr. visit was uneventful - as expected. There is still a tiny spot of "something". It has an index number of 3.4 something. Dr. says a number that small means it could either of a cancer or something else benign most likely.
So I get to do another PET scan in 2 weeks and review after that.
In any event I am not in any danger what so ever at this point. He said even if it some residual cancer a small amount of chemo should do the trick. He said with all the troubles I had going through radiation that any more extensive radiation therapy would be more than harmful to me than helpful and not worth it. I took that to mean I wouldn't survive another round of radiation like I had before. Hell the first time about killed me as it was!!!
Now that I look back at it all, it's somewhat amazing I came out alive. There was more than several times I was in immediate peril.
But I survived!!!!

So that's the scoop there on that deal.

There is something I needed to ask you fellers but I forget now.
I'll post about it when I remember. I was needing some advice is all I can remember.

This guy is so great!
Adam Jones, Orioles centerfielder; “Just call it what you see it: We’re not playing good baseball,” Jones said. “You can sugarcoat it however you want to. We’re just not playing good baseball. I think a lot of guys know it. You can see frustration on everybody. And it’s all part of it. It sucks, but it’s part of the 162.“What we’ve got to do is just continue to grind, continue to put in the work, continue to maintain our routines and at some point in time it’s going to work. Right now, we’re not getting the caroms. Everything’s not going our way. We had bases loaded tonight and couldn’t even squeeze a run by. Most of the time, we at least squeeze one in. It’s just the times that we’re in right now.
“Is it frustrating? Of course it is. Is it going to last? I think that’s up to us to continuously do what we do. We grind it out. It’s cliché as hell, but it’s the truth. You’ve got to just maintain your sanity and continue to play this game hard.”

Big E,
Its probably just a piece of gristle! Glad to hear the news, keep it up.

Eric. ... I'm very happy you are with us. What is your next model railroad project ?

Sherrell ... I hope we hear good news about your surgery soon.
