I haven't had a Yuengling in years, but have enjoyed them. I am a big fan of micro brews and am willing to try any of them.

Chet: Neither have I, even though it's readily available in NJ. In fact the last Yuengling I consumed, was a bowl of Yuengling Ice Cream, about a month ago. creamy.
Yuengling, has been around for a very long time. My Uncle, dad's sister's husband, worked there for nearly 40 years. Never had to buy beer. I toured the brewery back in the '60s.

The Ice Cream business developed during prohibition, and lasted ito the early 70s. It was revived about five years ago, by another Yuengling family member.

I live about 20 minutes from the Nice bridge over the Potomac.

Ken in VA: Unless they made some recent improvements, the "Nice" Bridge, isn't very nice . Driving Northward on I-95, I would get on 301, at the Fort A.P. Hill Exit, and follow 301 to where it merged with HWY 50 outside of Bowie. Then I followed MD-3 to the Harbor Tunnel Thruway. Two hours to East Baltimore from Dahlgren NS, is about right. Sure beats DC traffic during the rush hours, although 301 is now quite congested. The best name for a bridge goes to Maryland where HWY 40 crosses the Susquehanna. That's the Hatem, (Gov. Tommy), Bridge.

Many of you guys (and girls) probably already know this, but about a week ago we were able to get the 10% veteran's discount that Lowe's gives. I've known for years that they gave a discount, but they regularly refused to give it to me because I'm not retired or disabled military (I did a 4 year stint in the navy) and so they said I didn't qualify for their discount. But one of the checkout ladies told me they had a new policy and system, and to go online and fill out their veteran's discount info and it would be tied to my MyLowe's card so the discount would be given every time I shopped there. It's worked every time since then!

Remember when I was carperentering/house re-building for that feller Larry last year?
He never was in the service but his Dad was a retired Navy Sr. Master Chief (full E-9) and Larry had his military ID along with a lot of other belongings after his Dad died years before. He was able to use his card at Lowe's but was always nervous about it. They had the same names - i.e. Sr. and Jr. - except it didn't indicate that on the card nor did Larry GA driver's license have the suffix. Actually Larry was the III since his grandfather also had the name. I guess you could say Grandpa started it.
I always told Larry how the hell would they know since it doesn't say Sr., Jr. or III at the end?
I also followed up with "besides all that, do you think they are going to argue with a feller who has .45 strapped on"?
Actually, the first time he used it [the card to get the discount] I think he had the .50 strapped up.
I dam sure wouldn't argue with that hand-cannon!!!

I always kind of wondered how they could verify any of that anyway. What are vets supposed to do? Walk in with your original DD-214 to any and every place that recognizes vets in any way? In Lowe's case it's the discount.

Even this GA boy knows about those. You can get them in GA no problem - at least in the metro Atl, area.

What about Shoeling's Little Kings. We drank a lot of those when I was a newbie drinker back in the late 70s.

Michigan will endorse your drivers license with "Veteran," plus you can get a Michigan "Veteran" ID at the courthouse. Takes a DD214 to get either. Of course, everybody knows this and expects you to have something.

Louis - It is hard to believe that you went through more rum than whiskey. I haven't had a Yuengling in years, but have enjoyed them. I am a big fan of micro brews and am willing to try any of them.

Chet, I knew you would understand. I've told others, but the reposes, "ok", "yeah"..., they don't understand.

I have good whiskey, but I could not give it away.

1.75L Jameson Irish Whiskey, somebody had a double shot, that's all that is missing. Is there a better whiskey in the world?

1.75 Evan Williams Bourbon, more than 1.5L remain. Garry the people in Kentucky make some of the very best Whiskey, I love this stuff! It even came with a special 4th of July red white and blue label!

1.75L Seagram's Seven. A good example of the high quality American Whiskeys available at a discount price, nobody even opened it. For some reason this is the best whiskey to mix with 7up. Could it be psychosomatic?

A bit less than one half of a 1.75L bottle of Jack Daniels. This was the most popular whiskey, about .5L consumed.

After review I went through a little more whiskey than I first thought, still less than 1L and less than half the rum, baffling.

What do you think of Rye whiskey? I want to try this one.

Why would any retail outlet question a veteran? I think it's bad business to even question a veteran.

Even if the person is lying it looks good to take care of the veteran and who would want to be wrong in such a case? If for no other reason give them the discount so you are sure to never turn away a true veteran.

Ask all you want. Point is, they do ask if they know the documents are available. Around here, the ads announcing veterans' specials usually say something on the order of, "with discharge papers," or some such. Also, no one hates a "poser" more than veterans do, so real veterans don't mind being asked and will understand if they get caught with their ID down.

Good Evening. About an hour ago, a thunderstorm appeared out of nowhere and dumped 1.4" of rain in 45 minutes. Dropped the temperature from 91° to 70° in that short span. Of course the sun is now out and the humidity is 100%.
Beady - It's not just veterans that hate "posers", us non-veterans hate them as well. They are shameful to the human race and deserve to be roughed up a bit; there have been a couple of cases on the news here lately and the cops don't even consider pressing charges.

Good Night All!
Willie

"poser" who would do such a thing? I know, stupid question, forgive me. Nobody should ever pose as anything, call me Pollyanna.

I'm not a veteran, but I have too much respect for veterans to have the heart to ask, what's 10 percent? If you live that close to the profit margin I expect you are thinking different, but that is a fool thing to do. Or could have been unavoidable, but either way; you might want to rethink your business strategy.

If you are a "poser" how dare you? God sees everything. If your soul is worth 10% on a trash can, have it.

God blessed those of us born in the USA! Ronald Reagan best described the USA, "that shinning city on the hill" Where is John Wayne when you need him? We have high standards to live up to as Americans.

This is why I love westerns. Laramie is a good example; the good guys always do the right thing and the bad guys usually get shot or go off to the judge.

Meanwhile back on the whiskey front, in no particular order, they are all good, some a little better;

Comon, LOUIS, Dig out the Makers Mark and the Jack Daniels Single Barrel. I want something that goes down smooth straight up!

Just got home from all the pre-opt BS. Got to be back for the real show in 10 hours!
Going to be a short night ... They say 6 plus hours in surgery -- if smooth!
As PHIL says: Prayers for all!

Sherrel. ... You certainly are in my prayers for successful surgery. I think last time your wife contacted Terry with the good news. I hope she will do the same tomorrow.

Louis. .. on my trip to Lexington last week I drove through the Kentucky bourbon trail which includes Makers Mark and other distilleries . Bardstown is one of the towns I passed.

Speaking of Lexington, I'm glad my friend, Dan , is home from the hospital today

Sherrel No Whiskey for you! Not now, when you recover I'll buy the whiskey! No I will not spend over $100 a bottle for whiskey!

I am prepared for those of you with an expensive taste in Whiskey and or bourbon. Have you ever tasted Jameson Irish Whiskey? Or Evan Williams Bourbon? I think you will be satisfied with the taste. I bought them just for people like you :) and I like it as well!

Forget that over priced, over rated stuff. In my book most any whiskey goes down smooth. What do you think this is, California?

Here in southeast Baltimore we are cheap and we admire value. Only the Jameson cost me more than $20, double that!

Nobody can tell me Jameson, any version of Jack Daniels or any other bourbon or whiskey is twice as good Evan Williams bourbon. They might cost 10 times more, but can't be twice as good. I can't imagine any whiskey being clearly better than Jameson.

Garry Evan Williams is my favorite. I saw it advertised on MLBTV last year and I had to try it. I love it, capitalism works! I have never tasted a less than good bourbon, forget about a bad bourbon. There must be no such thing as a bad bourbon. I don't know what it is about Kentucky, but it's great for whiskey!

Disclaimer: I drink responsibly. Other than the 4th of July I seldom have more than 2-3 shots a month. Add to that 1,2 seldom ever 3 beers per month.

If you want something tasty? Drink this!

I tend to agree on Louis about Jameson. Very smooth but it isn't the same Evan or Jim Beam Dr. Jack.
It is most excellent for doing boilermakers.
The last time I did was at my little brother marriage reception/surprise party. I ended up in the kitchen doing
a boilermaker with a bunch of fat chicks who thought I was adorable.
I matched them boilermaker per boilermaker one a time. It was 5 against little ole me.
That was sometime in the mid 80s and I bet I've done 2 of those since.

I taped off the floor space based on my latest plan.
It had made for a center secion 3' wide. However, I think that's going to be too wide for me to reach across. I'd likely knock stuff over.
So I also tape off for a 2' center - yeah, I think that'll work just fine.

Just popped in to say HI !! Thanks for the whiskey lesson but I'll stick with VODKA.

Be aware of DOG FLU. Very contagious. And deadly

ERIC- SHERREL- GARRYs friend, and all of us- PRAYERS still on going.

I've had a couple of cases of bourbon flu over the decades. Is dog flu like that?

Well I decided to lay tape based on my design I posted several moons ago.
I'm glad I did. Instead of 3' wide in the midsection, I put it at 2' also so I could see the difference.
Glad I did!!! A 2' wide stretch will be easy to reach across.

Yeah,..... I didn't go to sleep at all last night. Guess I'm a little nervous about the Dr. visit this afternoon.
E.

Not a bad thing to keep the mind and hands busy, even at the expense of sleep. Better than tossing and turning, waiting for the hours to pass. All the best for the visit, may the news be good news.
