Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and 59 degrees here in North Central Texas this morning. It's supposed to stay in the 45-72 degree range through Saturday, slight chance of rain this weekend, of course the weathermen here hit it right about 30% of the time at this time of year. August brings up their average. HOT every day.
Karl, Garry, Terry & others - The good Lord gave cats a fur coat so they could live outside like mine. Of course that may not be possible in urban areas. In really bad weather, mine do head for the barn.
Terry - Hope your friend makes a full recovery.

Recently my LHS closed due to the owner retiring, and he gave me 36 of the various Walthers modular building kits. The bad news is that there were no kits containing the wall columns, # 933-3725. In my own stash of these kits, I had only one of this particular kit. Walthers no longer makes this product line and I have searched E-Bay and Amazon (and others) in vain. Does anyone know of a possible source? I have been cutting down the loading dock door walls to make my own, but that supply is limited.
That's it for now.
Willie

Willie .... Regarding cats, each of our cats was rescued from a different state (OH, KY, and TN), and they don't like the outdoors at all. One, in particular, is very scared even if we just take her on the deck. She must have had traumatic experiences outside before she was rescued. .... Regarding Walthers Modular kits, I did not even know they were no long being sold. I have used them for some of my buildings. If I find some spare parts for them which are leftover, I will let you know.

Terry .... Sorry to hear about your friend, Richard. I have not met him. Wishing him a speedy recovery.

Karl ... I have not seen Ken (CSX Road Slug) posting in while. Is he okay ?

No need to worry about me, just racing the calendar to finish repainting all the locos that I originally painted 20 years ago so they won't clash with the newer factory-painted models. With a full time day job, honey dues, and holiday commitments on top of that, it doesn't leave me much time for mrr stuff. I want to get this fleet repaint/weatering project done before Christmas. Once I reach that goal, then I'll be relaxed enough to resume posting here regularly.

Until then, y'all have yourselves a Merry Christmas!

I could swear I read postings about this last night?
Only had 2 beers all day so I know I'm not making that up.

How many? It was a pm with many gory details I did not want to clutter up the forum with but bored you with em instead. A post was put up but found lamme' and became 'lost' in editing.

Oh yeah!! PM. I forgot!!
I didn't figure I could have a moment of deja vu with such detail.

Dang buddy! You saved me a call! Merry Christmas to ya, hope to "play trains" at your house soon!!

Good Afternoon.
Garry - Kudos to you regarding the rescue of cats. I hope you realize I was kidding a bit. All of mine from the last 35 years have been "drop-offs" that showed up at my house. Because of my location, people just drive out and drop animals off. The closest neighbor south of me is over a mile and a quarter away; and folks just turn up the road, drive a bit and presto Willie has a new cat(s). They do live in the barn when necessary, but it can be quite cozy there and many are actually afraid to enter the house. They are probably quite traumatized by the time they reach our place. I do have a neighbor about a quarter mile north, but he raises dogs so they don't go there...after him it's another one and a half miles. I am isolated. I often wonder how many more are left that don't make it to me or anyone else. Thanks in advance for looking at your kits.
Chet - Take a few Advil and get back in the trainroom.
Eric - How's the copter going? Have you dared to take it outside yet?
Willie

Good afternoon guys. 25 and cloudy, a few flakes falling out of the sky.

By the way, all our cats over the last 20 years have just appeared at our doorstep. All but one, and she was born here. When we lived on the farm they were inside/outside critters, now that we live in town they pretty much stick to the house.

Oh, there you are Ken ... Merry Christmas back to you.

Hello, hello, hello... is there any body out there....
Pink Floyd fans should recognize that.

Took a long late day nap this afternoon which means I'm still now up.
Been awful quiet in here. I just hear crickets.

My neighbor across the street came to get me to look at, and/or appraise, some HO train stuff he got (for free).
Looks like promotional stuff GM dealers. It Athearn but nothing fancy by any stretch.
Might be good for a Christmas tree train.
Best I could tell it is fairly low end stuff. Like I said, just promotional stuff made for GM Chevy dealers.

I might give $20 for it, just for the cars. I'd bet a dollar to donuts it's all plastic and I'd end up spend at least another $20 to refit couplers and wheels. Dam sure ain't no DCC engine. Might could use the extra power pack for lights and stuff.
The only date I found on the box was a copyright 1997. His box is still sealed and he has 2. Some buddy of his gave them to him so I sure ain't tossing no funds at it.
Actually, I was fairly impressed he had confidence to tell me what the engine was - just based on the box picture.
Without me commenting, he proceeded to inform that based on his research over the net today "that's a GP38".
The picture on box doesn't really give enough detail to be absolutely certain bit he's dam close.
I call it a GP 38-2. It has the proper over hanging radiators. The GP38 does not.
The box says code 83 track (which I can't use) 45x36 oval.

Should I offer him anything for it?
Or is anyone else interested in it? I can made the deal.

Athearn hasn't made a GP38 yet, only GP38-2s.
You could always give him $20, sell it on Ebay, and use that money to get a train you want.

Good Morning All. 37 degrees and clear here in North Central Texas. Going back up into the lower 70's again today. Same for the rest of the week.
Eric - If it is 1997, then it might actually have knuckle couplers installed, but they would probably be the dreaded McHenry plastic ones. It might be good for running around the Christmas tree. Everything probably has GM plastered all over it, meaning any use on my layout for example, would involve re-painting into prototype equipment. One might be able to pick up a replacement shell for the loco cheap. Sounds like the track and power pack might be useful to someone. Like you, I'd offer $20.00 just to open the box, and sell the track to someone who could use it. I would use the power pack to power some lights. Cars could be used for spare parts.

I made the weekly Kroger/Target run to Denton yesterday for groceries. beer/wine and last minute Christmas gifts for the grandkids. Not sure we are going to be able to fit them all in the car Christmas morning. I guess I could leave the wife at home...
I didn't do much on the train layout yesterday as it was too nice outdoors and I did chores around the place after the four hour city trek. I did add a few finishing touches to a Walthers "Merchant's Row V" kit that I have been assembling for a town still to be built on the layout. Today I will add figures to complete it and maybe remember to take a few pictures. Speaking of Walther's, I have an absolute love/hate attitude regarding them. I love them because they do put out a lot of "industry-sized" kits that work for a railroad; but their instructions and diagrams leave a lot to be desired. I have gotten used to the parts that don't quite fit and the sometimes warped walls. I do have over 70 of their structures/kits on the layout and 20 or so on the shelf for future expansion. They are also very responsive when parts shortages are reported, although I have only had to use that service twice in 30+ years.
Well since today is going to be another beautiful day in the neighborhood, I will head off to the train shed in the dark and do model railroading while the dew is still on the ground.
See you all later.
Willie

For 20 bucks each, I'd buy both he had, fleabay 1 and keep the other. When the dust settles you may wind up with a free set!
Do some research on fleabay 1st.
